25.01.2022 At MUR Motorsports, skill and passion are the driving forces to recruiting new talents. Once a part of the team, all members’ contributions are held valuable to the team’s robust overall developments. Michelle Keane, MUR’s Velocity Estimation Specialist, is one such member who despite facing odds outside of MUR, has woven into the close knit workculture just as any other. We interviewed her to gather her experience, learnings and takeaways. Pursuing a specialization in Mechat...ronics, Michelle also shared her advice on how female STEM aspirants can get themselves through the door. Besides MUR, you’ll find that gender does make a difference in how people treat you in an underrepresented field like STEM, but if you’re passionate about it then you’ll find, especially in later years of your university degree that sooner or later all of that disappears completely. 18.01.2022 Check out the research our 2020 Spatial & Perception #Driverless engineers have been doing with #SLAM. The purpose of slam is to simultaneously generate the map of cones and localise the car within that track. The control team will take as an input to race along the track. This post outlines the basic interfaces, steps and definitions needed to achieve EKFSlam.... The first slam technique we will use will be ekfslam based - this was selected as the first technique as it is simpler than most other algorithms and is well known and widely used. 05.01.2022 COVID-19 GPS/IMU Alternative As concluded in the vehicle estimation article, the Piksi Multi Receiver Kit was our most favourable solution to the problem of Vehicle State Estimation (VSE) and the gathering of position, heading, and velocity data. However, due to the effects of the Australian lockdown, there has been a degree of flexibility required with our plans. In terms of this subsystem, acquisition of the Piksi Multi has been put on hold indefinitely until the universit...y reopens, as has the purchasing of any other devices that are not currently in our possession. Due to this, we have been exploring the avenue of using what we have available in terms of a GPS/IMU module for my initial programming of the data processing and testing required. When the Arduino and GPS module mentioned in the last post failed us, we looked to one of the most common computer devices in the world: the smartphone. 05.01.2022 Point Cloud Cylindrical Volume Reconstruction In this article, we would like to go over some of the steps taken to perform cylindrical volume reconstruction. For a bit of context, this particular processing step comes in after we have finished the ground plane segmentation and clustering for the point clouds. However, during the segmentation step, we might have inadvertently removed points which belong to our object of interest, which in this case, are traffic cones.... However, for our use case an image frame will have multiple objects of interest within view, how would we then pair an object located within the left frame to its corresponding position in the right frame? ...
