23.01.2022 Murray Towns Cricket Association Congratulations to Five Murray Towns players who have been selected in the Fleurieu & District Cricket Team, to play late January, early February in the Barossa.... All have had good Seasons thus far and or perform well at the highest level. Well done to Jared Marston (pictured) who’ll Captain the side, with fellow Team mates Aaron Zrim and Sam Elliott in the squad, James Dawson and John Zadow (Tailem Bend) have been rewarded for great Seasons, also selected. Murraytowns Cricket is in a very good state at the moment, with 5/14 from the Murraylands. 20.01.2022 MTCA GRAND FINALS CANCELLED As many people in the cricket community would be aware, Cricket Australia strongly recommended that all organised community cricket competitions across Australia be cancelled effective immediately. The MTCA Executive Committee have considered this advice made the difficult decision to CANCEL this weekend’s grand finals events. ... This is a highly unique set of circumstances that we have been faced with and the decision was not made lightly. We can understand that many people will be disappointed by this decision, particularly those who were preparing to play in a grand final, but we ask that you maintain some context and keep in mind that we are in midst of a highly unpredictable international health crisis. The health and wellbeing of players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and supporters remains our top priority. Under the MTCA by-laws, the higher placed teams are deemed the winner in finals matches that are abandoned. Thank you for your understanding.

President: Aaron Zrim Grades/ Captains: A Grade: Jared Marston B: Grade: Mark O’born C Grade: Matt Crocker A Grade Flags since 70/71 (15) 70/71 (Joint Monarto), 77/78, 84/85, 90/91, 91/92, 92/93, 93/94, 97/98, 99/00, 03/04, 08/09, 10/11, 12/13, 16/17 & 19/20 INS: Keynan Harradine (Ramblers) & Jack Billing (Ramblers) OUTS: Kyle Downs (Perponda) ‘TIGER TALK’ Jared Marston: Jmar is the Anchor man, he can tare an attack apart, strong square of the wicket, often opens the innings and capable of carrying his bat. Jared is a smart Captain, who reads the game well, and never lets the batsmen an easy run, setting strong field placements. Aaron Zrim: Zrim is class act with bat or ball, The Destroyer or Funky as he’s known is a skilful player who has experience at district Cricket Level, and if he don’t do the damage with the Bat, you can bet he’ll do it with the Ball. Usually bats high, but with some other options, Zrim could bat 5 or 6, in the middle order, especially after closing out the death overs of and innings. Brady Wrigley: Brady has come on leaps and bounds. He’s got a great eye and hits through the ball well. He’s capable of holding up and end and keep the scoreboard ticking. A vital player who I believe will take that next step and be a key in the Tigers den. Lachlan Zrim: Mudgey is a key in the Tigers armour, he bowls great left arm medium pace and can be hard to get away with a great out swinger. His height also plays havoc with the batsman and for a tall bowler, he’s a great outfielder. Sam Elliott: Sam Elliott is a top order batsman, who’s settled into this role and plays a vital part for the Tigers. Often nervous early, If he gets set, he can hurt you on the scoreboard. Ells will play a vital role with his spinners, which he has developed into a strong part of his game. Another talented Tiger who’ll play an important part if Mypolonga are to challenge back to back flags. Jordan Hein: At 16 it’s fair to say Jordan is a gifted sportsman. He is fast emerging talent, great fielder and willing to learn. He absorbs information out at Tiger town from the experience players and is sure one to watch this Season. Football commitments may see him miss some games at the back end of the season, but Hein is Emerging Talent in the MTCA. His Bowling is on the spot and as the Season goes on, expect a few W’s in the Bowling column. YOUNG TALENT Jarred Merritt and Jake Prosser have been in the A Grade for a couple seasons now and will look to this Season as their breakout year. Jarred is a line and length bowler, who does enough with the ball to cause headaches for the opposition. Jake is more zippy and will look to take early wickets and with an opportunity batting up the order, Tailem will look to Jake to contribute with the bat. Jaiden Dawson-Jaiden is an up and coming Leg Spin Bowler, who fitted straight into the A Grade last season as a 16 year old. He is also a classy Batsman, who the Eagles will look to bat up the order, when given an opportunity. Bryson Prosser-Bryson is a tall 16 year old fast Bowler, who will be a handful for opposition in the years to come. Prosser is also a hard hitting Batsman who made some big scores in B Grade last season and handy runs in the A Grade. He will look to improve his game again this season.

13.01.2022 MEYER SHIELD UPDATE In light of the recent bushfires on Kangaroo Island and the huge recovery process that is already underway, the KICA - Kangaroo Island Cricket Association will be unable to host the upcoming Meyer Shield competition. We acknowledge the efforts of the KICA committee in trying to make this work despite the significant challenges. KICA have also advised that they will not be participating in this year's competition. Murray Towns Cricket Association have gene...rously offered to step in at short notice to host the carnival which will still be held over the Australia Day long weekend. Games will be played at Johnstone Park and the Murray Bridge Showgrounds. Thank you to the MTCA committee for being able to coordinate this so promptly. The details of the revised competition format and program will be posted on MyCricket very soon.

09.01.2022 As we alluded to earlier in the week due to the devastating bushfires on Kangaroo Island these last few weeks the originally scheduled Meyer Sheild has been moved from Kangaroo Island to the MTCA for this season. Our MTCA side will square off against GSCA at Johnstone Park this saturday at 10:00am. Congratulations to the following who have made the 14 man squad.... 07.01.2022 Murray Towns Cricket Association As we take an unexpected Two Week break in the Cricket Season, we take a look at the Leaderboard both Bowling and Batting in MTCA, A Grade. BOWLING ... Harry Webb, Monarto (12) has a 1 wicket lead over Bradley Towill, Jervois (11) while Brady Wrigley, Mypolonga and Sam Robinson (Wanderers) each have (10) BATTING After Five games Mypolonga’s Aaron Zrim (191) @ (63.67) has a 28 run lead over Mannum’s Nick Lindner (163) @ (32.6). The Black Caps hold 3rd place with Ty Pfeiffer (138) @ (34.5) The top 12 in batting have, 3 Monarto, 2 Tailem, 2 Wanderers, 2 Mypolonga, 2 Mannum and 1 Jervois, so not a lot in it. From here, Anyone can win on the day, but on paper, I can’t see Jervois making Finals, so 5 don’t fit into 4, so wins will be crucial in the restart after this mini covid break. Jervois could still shape the Four on their day. All things going well, hopefully next week will see training resume, and a restart, Saturday Dec 5. As to whether these two rounds (6, 7) are compulsory draws and 5 points awarded, we’ll update as more info comes to hand. As the program reads, next week our Broadcast Livestream Match of the Day will be the Blockbuster Mypolonga taking on top of the table Monarto at Homburg Oval.

This Year see’s an A Grade Match Live-streaming each week, which is both exciting for the competition and great promotion of our Competition. CLUB PREVIEWS By Bruce Phillips This year see’s Six Teams in A Grade, looking pretty even across the Clubs. With last years Grand Finals abandoned, I’m sure there’ll be some unfinished business heading into round one. There are some real promising Juniors in the Competition coming through, who showed talent last year, but with another six months on, and coming off a short footy Season, these lads look stronger, an I’d expect around the grounds, we’ll see some young lads step up with bat and ball. PREDICTION/SUMMARY (A Grade) Mypolonga: The Tigers go in the benchmark, they know how to bat 50 overs. Led by The Destroyer Aaron Zrim who’s still very sharp for his age and the Master Blaster Jared Marston who opens the batting. Look out for The Wriggler I’m expecting Brady Wrigley to fly under the radar, and have a huge impact in 20/21. Tailem: The Eagles will look to the Zadow lads coming in from Meningie, along with Daniel Wombat Mathews. Captain Josh Gerlach had a great Season with the bat last year, and with some depth now and not so much pressure, the Captain can do more damage. It’s been a long time between drinks for the Blue and Gold, but I’d expect Tailem to be right up there come Finals. Jervois: The Bluds will look to Veterans Daniel Gilmour and Jarrod Wohlschlager to lead from the front. They got some good juniors coming through, who are emerging. It could be a challenge for the Bluds with the loss of Craig Fidge. Wanderers: The Woo Hoos will get around their Champion Todd Blucher. He bleeds for the Wanderers and with Ryan Morris in charge and Sam Robinson with a new ball along with the inclusion of The Fidginator Craig Fidge, Wanderers will be up and about. Give these lads a sniff of victory and it’s giddy up, they thrive on pressure. Monarto: There is nothing Ian Bates can’t do, he is the Engine room at the Black Caps. The A’s will be led by the ever reliable Jacob Rance, with some talent Juniors coming through and a blend of experience with the Pfeiffer boys, Monarto although losing Daniel Mathews will again be a force through the Grades. 06.01.2022 MURRAY TOWNS CRICKET ASSOCIATION ‘MURRAYLANDS SHOWCASE YOUNG TALENT’ This Sunday the 17th January, Murray Towns Cricket Association, will showcase emerging talent in the Competition, when they play a Final Come and Try Out match at the Showgrounds Oval. ... The internal Trial number 3, is a platform for young Cricketers aged between 15-21 to compete against their own age group. The game could lead to potential Selection for the U/21’s MTCA Figg Shied, coming up next Month. With Coaches on hand, The MTCA Board are excited about the Match, as it gives an even chance for all in this age bracket, to be selected to Play at the highest Country level. Any player serious about playing for the Association, it is recommended you attend for selection and Coaches will be on hand to organise the game to finalise the Team. Players wishing to have a go, are asked to arrive by 12.00pm for a 1 pm Start. There will be Lunch provided by the MTCA. The Meyer Shield squad will train beforehand, so it’s a chance for the lads to watch and learn from our Murray Towns Association Team, so arrive early for a look. If you have nothing to do Sunday, drop into the Showgrounds during the day, to see our Young Talent in the Murraylands on show, you won’t be disappointed.
