21.01.2022 Yesterday I received a note from Murray Gardens Retirement Village in Albury, thanking me for their new Australian flag. The flag is much appreciated and respec...ted in the village and was being flown at half-mast to acknowledge the passing of one of their residents. Today marks the 119th anniversary of the first time our National Flag was flown at the ceremonial opening site of the first Parliament of Australia in Melbourne; then-Prime Minister Edmund Barton announced the five winners of the Australian flag design competition and the final product is the one that we all know. On National Flag Day, I encourage Australians to pause and reflect on our flag the nation it represents, and the people it unites. To learn more about the Australian National Flag visit www.pmc.gov.au/flag.

20.01.2022 The significant spike in COVID-19 cases in Victoria, clusters in New South Wales and new cases in South Australia and Queensland are, understandably, a cause for concern amongst many of our residents and their families. Read on for an update on what we are doing to keep our villages COVIDsafe. Its a team effort, so we want to thank you for the part you are playing by making good choices to keep yourself and your community safe.... http://ow.ly/cJEy50AUOFh
19.01.2022 What a beautiful day for two of our wonderful residents whom will celebrate their long awaited wedding over the weekend. Our community sends our very best wishes. May your day be filled with as much joy as your rose gardens give us.
19.01.2022 Many of our wonderful residents here volunteer in our community in so many ways and for that we are so grateful .
18.01.2022 More than 100 years ago, at 11am on 11 November 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after four years of the most brutal war the world had seen. In the four years of that war, more than 330,000 Australians served overseas, and over 60,000 had died. Today, on 11 November we mark that anniversary, and remember all those who sacrificed so much for us all, both in WWI, and all the wars, conflicts and operations that have happened since, and still continue today.... We particularly honour and celebrate those among our residents, and their families, who are veterans of conflicts, and hope that you will join us in paying our respects and express our gratitude for all they have given.
18.01.2022 We love our animals here.. a residents son told me the other day, the dog comes before all of us now!!
18.01.2022 One of our new residents was given a new landline number from Telstra..and it was previously a Brazilian waxing salon.... she's having fun answering her phone!!
18.01.2022 Today is Fathers day. Fathers day is a time to reflect and celebrate all the father figures in our lives; dads, stepdads, grandads, uncles, sons, friends and carers. At RetireAustralia we treasure the love they give, the knowledge they share, and the care they show. Not just today, but every day.

16.01.2022 Today is RUOK day On this RUOK day, and every day, dont even think twice about reaching out to friends, neighbours, colleagues, and loved ones. Even if they seem OK. It is always better to ask. Because showing that you care, and are willing to listen can make all the difference to someone doing it tough.... Check out the RUOK day website for advice on how to start a conversation, resources and more: http://ow.ly/MbhI50BlF3N

15.01.2022 When you FaceTime your mum for the first time..... I want to FaceTime mum & dad but They can’t use it... I don’t know what to talk about They make me feel guilty and keep saying - I wondered if you were still alive Here’s some tips from our residents: 1. Enlist some help. Call the village chances are there are staff or residents more than capable and willing to help with the actual technology side 2. DO turn on your video. Your mum & dad want to see you. 3. Flip your screen. Your back yard might be boring to you but they haven’t seen it for a while, take them for a virtual tour yes they do want to see your partner, dog and inside of your fridge. They are nosey like that. 4. Tell them a problem you are working on even if you think it is beyond them, they might surprise you with a small bit of wisdom that will tip you in the right direction 5. Ask them to recommend a horse to punt on over the weekend 6. What was their first car and how much did it cost to fill it up 7. If you were on death row what would you each choose for your last meal 8. Where was your favourite place to dance, what song was playing and what were you drinking 9. You don’t always have to call to give or get important news. Sometimes it’s just the chat that matters most. Chances your parents love routine so set a day and a time once a week and get into the habit. They will look forward to it and you will feel good for the rest of the week. 10. Tell them you love them; or you don’t. It’s never too late to clear the air.

12.01.2022 Today (and every day!) we are celebrating the wise, loving mother figures in our lives mums, grandmas, aunties, carers and best friends. We often hear about the wisdom of mothers and how they’re always right , so we thought we’d share some of our favourite mum advice: Think good thoughts.... Do what makes you happy. Never miss an opportunity to learn a new skill. Love wholeheartedly and be strong, no matter the circumstances. Anything worth having is worth working for. Lose with dignity and win with pride. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Always put on some lipstick. It’ll make you feel good. What’s the best advice your mum ever gave you? Share in the comments below

04.01.2022 Robyn, the Village Manager at Murray Gardens in Albury, has had a letter to the editor published in the Border Mail reminding residents who have to travel to Melbourne to self-isolate on their return: "This week, we received the welcome news that many of our regional Victorian families will be able to visit each other again. At Murray Gardens, we have grandparents who will finally get to see their new grandchildren born during the pandemic. It is encouraging to see restrictio...ns easing. Our small community has sought to play its part in reigning in the spread of Coronavirus, and we have observed firsthand the emotional pain and suffering experienced by our residents and their families as they have been forced to stay apart. Now that we are seeing some reprieve, it is vital that we work together to maintain it. To keep the easing of restrictions on track we would like to send a message to all seniors and their families in our community that may need to travel to Melbourne for health reasons. Please keep in mind when you are in Melbourne that hospital staff are under enormous pressure. They will not always be aware of the border conditions, and the restrictions that remain in place here to keep our vulnerable local population safe. You may not receive an explicit directive from the hospital to self-isolate when you return to our community, but it is vital that you do. We can't wait for you to come home, but when you do, please go straight home and into 14 days of isolation. Please don't make a quick trip to the shops or bank on the way home. We know country people are independent and don't like asking for help, but this is one of those times when help is necessary. The supermarkets are all delivering, as are many of the pharmacies. Our local businesses are amazing and they want to support you. Just ring them and see how they can help." https://bit.ly/3cMEZ76
