24.01.2022 Year 11 Hospitality This week we had the pleasure of a past student, Julie Kettyle, demonstrate a choux pastry master class to our students, as well as talk to them about her career pathway. Julie has gone from strength to strength in her career as a pastry chef. Julie was the first apprentice at Geoffrey Michael Patissier. Once qualified, she moved on to Versace Palazzo at the Gold Coast and then the Emporium Hotel in Brisbane, perfecting her craft along the way. Julie is ...currently moving to Hobart to help open a new restaurant, as her scholarship to travel Europe can not happen in the current circumstances. Thanks Julie for sharing your passion, knowledge, time and skills with MHS students you are truly an inspiration! We look forward to having you back again and wish you all the best. 15.01.2022 Hello everyone. Mr Meader here with a message regarding school uniform. You might be aware that, with the impact of Covid-19, we were more relaxed with our uniform expectations over winter for obvious reasons. With summer well on its way I have let our students know that this will be very different next term. There are many social and educational aspects that support the wearing of a school uniform. These include:... giving students a sense of belonging and community; preparing students for workforce expectations; reduction in peer pressure and bullying; academic performance (yep I was sceptical about this one too, but this is backed by research. Students are found to score higher exam results if they wear the same outfit in their exams as they do in class. Go figure!); better learning environments with fewer discipline issues and improved listening; and more affordable than having a range of ‘in-vogue’ outfits. More simply, though, uniform is a Murray High School expectation. School expectations are the reflection of what is important to the school and its community. School expectations might not share equal priority with every individual, but school expectations are the makeup of a school’s social and moral fibre. Once set, school expectations are the ‘not negotiable’ ways of doing things. Wearing the school uniform at Murray High School is easy. If anyone finds it not easy, all they need to do is talk to any staff member about it. It doesn’t matter who we will be happy to help in whatever way we can. This is just being reasonable. What’s not reasonable, though, is refusal to wear the uniform. When this happens it’s not so much about the uniform but more about scoffing at the school’s expectations. It becomes a matter of being disrespectful to what our school community values as important. This, to us, is a very serious issue. Our teachers have my full support in upholding the need for students to meet the expectations of the school. One of the easiest ways to do this is by wearing the school uniform. If you are unsure about our uniform requirements, please use the following link to our General Information Booklet and scroll through to Page 9 where the uniform is fully explained. https://murray-h.schools.nsw.gov.au//General_Information_B

10.01.2022 Good morning everyone. Mr Meader here with a Covid-19 update. Please be aware of the following information in connection to NSW-Victoria border restrictions: The temporary closure of the NSW-Victoria border, which was implemented to contain the spread of COVID-19 from Victoria and to protect the health and wellbeing of NSW residents, remains in force. The border zone is defined as townships along the Murray River including Mildura, Wodonga and Echuca on the Victorian side. Un...der the amended Public Health Order, any person who already has a valid day school visitor permit will continue to be able to use this permit for 14 days, until midnight on Friday 21 August. This permit will expire after Friday 21 August. It will be replaced with a special schools permit for children who attend special purpose schools. Any child or staff member in the Border Zone will be able to continue crossing the border to attend school or work as long as they stay within the Border Zone. The changes include: Staff and students who reside within the border zone, on either side of the NSW-Victoria border, are permitted to cross the border to attend a school located in the border zone by obtaining a Border Zone Resident Permit. Victorian residents who reside outside of the border zone will not be able to enter NSW to attend school unless they obtain an exemption. Victorian residents who reside within the border zone but attend a school outside the border zone will not be permitted to cross the border without an exemption. HSC students and HSC teachers who reside beyond the Victorian border zone can travel to NSW schools provided they have been granted an exemption. All other Victorian staff and students who reside beyond the border zone will be supported to learn and work from home. Students attending a School for Specific Purposes will be eligible for a special permit through the NSW Government website. Visit the NSW Government website to apply for a border permit.

08.01.2022 Hello everyone. Mr Meader here with an end-of-term message. Firstly, what I really want to do is wish you all the best for a great term break. It's been a long time coming and I hope that you all reap the full benefit of the two weeks away from school. Apart from that, just a couple of reminders if I may. Firstly, don't forget that we are continuing to treat school uniform as a school expectation. You will see much more detail on this in my last FB message.... Secondly, mobile phones. I've had a serious discussion on assembly this week about the expectations around mobile phone use in the school. I'm keen to look into this process and, before this happens, it's crucial that we remain steadfast to the current school processes. While in class, phones are expected to be: * in students' bags or in the teacher's collection box; * not in use; * surrendered to the teacher if they are being used or visible; * surrendered to the head teacher if this intervention is necessary Nobody wants to inhibit communication between school and home. If messages need to be conveyed to students we have some of the very best reception staff in existence and they will be happy to take a call. Contact can also be made from school to home via the Reception Office if necessary. We are here to help. Once again, have a wonderful time away from school over the next fortnight. I very much look forward to being back with you next month.
07.01.2022 Year 12 Graduation Night This Friday, November 13th, we will celebrate the graduation of our Year 12, 2020 cohort. A reminder that due to Covid restrictions the night will be limited to students and staff only. This graduation will be underpinned by COVIDSafe practices as directed by the NSW Department of Education. We are very excited to have Steve Bowen providing the entertainment and look forward to a fun night of celebrations. A note to parents and carers that students will need to be dropped at the Kaitlers Rd entrance and enter the school via the Kaitlers Rd gate. Pick up at 9pm will be from the same spot. 03.01.2022 Check-in assessment for Year 9 Dear parents and carers, Our Year 9 students will be participating in a reading and numeracy Check-in assessment during Week 7, Term 3, 2020.... The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment, available to support schools to assess and monitor Year 9 student learning following the period of learning from home. The Check-in assessments supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment that they would normally receive in the classroom. Students will be asked to bring headphones or earbuds that plug into a computer to enable them to hear audio during the assessment. Earbuds used for mobile phones or other portable devices may be suitable for use during the assessment. The type of computer connection needed is a jack or USB. A limited supply of loan headphones will be available. Guy Lewis Acting Deputy Principal Instructional Leadership

02.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE The following updated advice has been received today from Dr Kerry Chant, Chief Health Officer, NSW Ministry of Health. Schools should continue to exclude students and staff with even mild symptoms of COVID-19 and encourage them to seek testing immediately. Parents of symptomatic children will still need to provide evidence of a negative test result on their child’s return to school.... In the case of seasonal allergic rhinitis (Hayfever) or other condition that presents similarly to COVID-19 and in the presence of continuing symptoms, the child will need a negative COVID-19 test result and a letter from their GP confirming that the child should be permitted to return to school. If the child’s symptoms change from their usual symptoms, repeat COVID-19 testing should be performed. Non-essential adults should continue to be excluded from school unless involved directly in delivery of curriculum activities or health issues. Thank you for your continued support. Yours sincerely Norman Meader Principal
