17.01.2022 The residents got some much needed entertainment in our Eureka Gladstone village. Nothing like some music to lift your spirits. Thanks Bill and Esther for organising. :)

16.01.2022 Wishing all our residents and staff a happy Australia Day! Let's test your Aussie knowledge below, how many of these facts do you know about our great country? ...- There are three times as many sheep than people living in Australia - Australia's first police force was made up of 12 convicts who were judged to be the best behaved - Wombat poo is shaped like a cube! - The Box Jellyfish, which is found in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef , is responsible for more deaths than snakes, sharks and saltwater crocodiles combined - The Kangaroo and Emu were chosen to be the two animals on the Australian Coat of Arms because they can't walk backwards, reflecting a forward-thinking culture - Australia was the second country in the world to grant women the right to vote; this occurred in 1894 - In 2005, the government issued a ban on saying the word 'mate' at Parliament House. The ban lasted 24 hours before it was overturned - Former Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke once held the Guiness World Record for the fastest beer sculling, downing 2.5 pints of beer in 11 seconds (he recreated the legendary feat at the SCG in January 2017) - The average Australian drinks 83 litres of beer per year - Australia is the driest of any continent on earth other than Antarctica - The Aussie state of Tasmania has the world's cleanest air - While mining is one of Australia's biggest industries, more land is covered by pubs than mines -The termite mounds that can be found in Australia are the tallest animal-made structures on Earth - Melbourne has the largest public tram system in the world - The Gold Coast has the world's largest canal system, which is larger than those of both Venice and Amsterdam combined - Australia is home to the world's largest cattle ranch which is bigger than the entire country of Belgium - Australia's dingo fence is longer than the Great Wall of China - The Nullarbor Plain is home to the longest straight road in the world, at 146km long

12.01.2022 Editor’s Note: for those of you reading this post for the first time- thank you and welcome. The fires have been raging in Our fair land for weeks now. I have s...ince posted numerous patterns to my recent posts here on Facebook Including an updated infographic on what supplies are needed from The Rescue Collective. I encourage you all to follow and join them as well as the Animal Rescue Collective and Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild to continue to receive advice on what is needed most and locations to which you can send your handmade supplies. I am still happy to act as a collection point though if easier. My address is PO Box 126 Balgowlah NSW 2093. Let’s spread some love and light over this suffering nation. THANKYOU Knitters of the World - Australia needs your help. Over 1 million hectares of land have been burning in 300 fires across NSW and Queensland. Much of this is critical Koala Habitat - a species that is now considered functionally extinct. Populations have been decimated and those who have survived are badly injured. It’s important to acknowledge that so many other animals have perished in these devastating fires. So too have people and hundreds of homes leaving families with nothing. Our hearts are heavy and so many of us are in a state of bewilderment and anger at the lack of political will to address the broader issues at play here. But that’s a conversation for another time and platform. Right now, we need to do what we can to make a difference where we can. There has been a call out for knitted, crocheted Joey pouches and sewn pouch liners for our beloved kangaroos, and other natives such as possums and wombats, to help in the treatment of burns. Email me for the patterns at [email protected]. I have a fantastic PDF I can send you. No DMs please. I am happy to be the point of collection and you’ll find my postal address in my Bio information. Please show our global leaders what can be achieved when we act as a collective consciousness and show compassion and love for those in need. We are all one. We are all connected. Let’s be the light for those who have forgotten to see. Please share this post or tag the crafter in your life so that they can help spread the word. Our beautiful precious Aussie wildlife needs your love and care. Many thanks and much love, Jac #australia #bushfires #climatechange #climatemergency #knittersofinstagram #crochetersofinstagram #craftivism #activisim #koala #kangaroos #wildlife #injuredwildlife #rescue @ Sydney, Australia
