24.01.2022 An Anzac Day poem, Kleenex rating 10/10 Lest We Forget <3

23.01.2022 Greetings folks, next Murrumbateman gig will be on Sunday the 29th of March, starting at 6pm. There aren't many anti-virus precautions we can take, but one thing we can do is make it an unmiked show, so that we're not all touching and breathing on the same microphone. You should be getting an email from Wal explaining this. See you there.

22.01.2022 Two more performers from last Sunday at Murrumbateman, Danny V and Brigit, both having made the trip from Bungendore to be with us. Danny has been a regular at Murrumbateman, but this was Brigit's first time. We hope to see them both again in 2021.

22.01.2022 Brilliant! Bush poetry to give you a good laugh in these tough times Lynn

21.01.2022 The February Murrumbateman gig is on this coming Sunday, the 23rd, starting at 6pm. Come one, come all and get your hands on a new book of outstanding Aussie bush poetry by our own Zillah Williams.

21.01.2022 This Facebook page has had plenty of looks lately, so you must be keen to hear the latest news. Our next Murrumbateman gig will be on Sunday the 29th of November. Please note that the start time will be 5pm. Wal did an email survey to see if our members wanted to keep to the two different start times for summer and winter or use the earlier time all year round. The answer is that we will now start at 5pm for the whole year. This will be our last Murrumbateman for the year, so... if our performers have at least one festive or otherwise Christmassy song to include in their sets, that will be appreciated (though not compulsory). We are still doing it Covid-safe, having managed it successfully last month. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

18.01.2022 Greetings everyone, stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed, we may soon be able to bring you some good news. It appears certain that we can get together again before the end of the year. We will be meeting with the staff at the Murrumbateman Pub next week to find out how soon and in what form we can recommence. It may be as soon as the last Sunday of this month. We will certainly have to comply with spacing rules, which means limited numbers. It will have to be fully acoust...ic to avoid mulitiple hands on equipment, especially microphones. All of these details will be discussed at our meeting. So let's look forward to better days, and be as optimistic as this song by Johnny Nash, who sadly died a couple of days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch

17.01.2022 It was great to see the incomparable bush poet Laurie McDonald back at Murrumbateman on Sunday night, with illustrator Denise Burton, performing their latest book for children, "Sydney Harbour with Binny and Bree." You can buy the book or learn more about it at: http://lauriemcdonaldpoetry.com/

16.01.2022 Looks like there's been no change to the Covid situation since our last Murrumbateman gig, so we're good to go next Sunday, the 31st of January, starting at 5pm. Happy New Year to everyone.

16.01.2022 Here's a further update on my previous update. It looks like July is out of the question, August is unlikely, and September is looking like the best bet for a return to our Murrumbateman Sundays. Here's George Harrison with some words of wisdom for our time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPTHem2iu0A

16.01.2022 Here's some more pics from January's Murrumbateman gig: Andrew giving us some traditional Scottish songs with his uke, Martin with some Aussie country songs, and Chris the multi-instrumentalist. The February gig will be two weeks from now, Sunday the 23rd, starting at 6pm.

14.01.2022 Here are some pictures from our February Murrumbateman gig. In order they are: Wal Brewer, we always like hearing Wal's original songs based on his family's history; next is me, then Andrew Usher - coincidentally I had just written a song about dreams and performed it for the first time, and then Andrew did a full set of songs also about dreams. Next comes Mick Brown, whose set had an extremely high degree of difficulty, especially the Beach Boys' God Only Knows, which very f...ew performers would attempt to play solo, but Mick nailed it. Then comes our multi-instrumentalist Chris Van Reyk, followed by Zillah Williams, one of our two great Aussie poets; then Chris McPhail demonstrating the depth of his busking repertoire including a Shirley Bassey song, and finally the other great Aussie poet, Laurie McDonald. An excellent night's entertainment. Our next will be on Sunday the 28th of March, starting at 5pm. See more

14.01.2022 We are two weeks away from the first Murrumbateman gig of 2021. Since a lot of our members will be crossing the ACT/NSW border to attend, we have to keep an eye on interstate Covid news. As of today, we are able to continue with the same arrangements as our last two gigs in 2020. If there is any change, Wal will send an email. Otherwise we look forward to seeing you on Sunday the 31st.

13.01.2022 Here we are at the end of another month and still no return to Murrumbateman. It looks unlikely that we'll be restarting in September, but Wal will be talking to the hotel's people and will give us an update via email very soon.

13.01.2022 It was another great night at Murrumbateman on Sunday, but mostly it was about Zillah, and her new book. Here's my copy of the book, and Zillah reading her poem "On Alison Bridge," a story about the heartbreak drought can bring to country life in Australia.

11.01.2022 Reluctantly, regrettably, but inevitably, we have come to the decision that this month's Murrumbateman gig has to be cancelled. The reason is obvious, and there is a strong likelihood that this won't be the last such cancellation. Stay safe everyone, and let's hope it won't be long before we can be together and entertaining each other again.

10.01.2022 Just reminding everyone that today's Murrumbateman gig is cancelled, and we remain cancelled until the present crisis is over. Let's hope that's not too far in the future. Stay safe and take care of yourselves until we meet again.

09.01.2022 One week to go until our next Murrumbateman music and poetry night, on Sunday the 28th of Feb, starting at 5pm. See you there.

08.01.2022 Another end of the month Sunday without a get together. :( Here is what I would have been singing tonight. Hope everyone is staying safe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLat_ILCg1c

06.01.2022 Here are the performers from the February Murrumbateman gig (apart from me, 'cause I was the one taking the photos). In order of appearance they are: Chris VR; Frankie; Keith; Wal; Zillah; Chris M; Danny V; Gar (who was visiting Canberra from Queensland to perform at the Multicultural Festival and dropped in to Murrumbateman to perform for us); Redwing; Mick Brown; Martin; and Andrew.

06.01.2022 It won't be long now (let's hope). Restrictions are being eased, not fast enough for a Murrumbateman gig in June, but the more optimistic among us may hold high hopes for July. We're keeping a close watch on the easing, both in NSW (where Murrumbateman is) and the ACT (where most of our members are), and Wal is keeping in contact with the Murrumbateman Inn so that we're all aware of the conditions that will make our return possible. Here's a song we all know, about new beginn...ings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRqE3XxAI0U

05.01.2022 This was my favourite of the many great songs that Daniel McFeeley shared with us at Murrumbateman, let's hope we will be back together again soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sm-Ofl3WB24

04.01.2022 Here are some photos of all of the performers from last Sunday's Murrumbateman gig (except myself). They are, in order of appearance: Mick B; Chris VR; Andrew; Col; Keith; Zillah; Chris McP; Frankie; Danny V; Chris C; Pat and Armanel; Leo. Our next gig will be on Sunday the 28th of February, starting at 5pm. Wal suggested last Sunday that we move the starting time to 4pm from March onwards, giving everyone a chance to get home at a reasonable hour. Feedback on that idea will be appreciated, either by email to Wal or to me in a comment on this post.

04.01.2022 Just a reminder that our first Covid-safe Murrumbateman gig is on this evening, starting at 6pm. See you there.

01.01.2022 We're back! We're resuming our monthly Murrumbateman music nights with a Covid-safe gig on Sunday the 25th of October, starting at 6pm. Wal sent out an email, listing all of the Covid precautions with which we will be complying. For those who didn't get the email, here is the list:...Continue reading

01.01.2022 This event has a Murrumbateman connection. The support act is our own Danny V. He's supporting my favourite Canberra band, the Guitar Case Troubadours (formerly Guitar Cases). I've got tickets, & I'll be making sure I get there early to see Danny. I hope some of you will do the same. https://www.facebook.com/events/3410281135708142
