16.01.2022 Im sure you have all been overloaded with vine leaves on social media by now - as grapegrowers we cant help but get excited when the vines wake up and we see ...the start of (hopefully) another great vintage. I just wanted to put out a special plea to anyone who lives in a region that has vineyards to please be careful what herbicide sprays you use from now on...vines are very susceptible to spray drift damage particularly from those used to control thistles like 2,4-D and MCPA. The NSW DPI website http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au//weed-con/herbicides/spray-drift has great information on reducing herbicide spray drift - even clear calm mornings can be risky as inversion layers can form and carry the spray particles far away. There are obviously serious legal consequences if you damage neighbouring crops with spray drift but wed like it never to get to that point because by then the damage would be done and some of our older vines are irreplaceable.
