17.01.2022 Safety advisory - Zostavax vaccine People with compromised immune function should not be given the Zostavax vaccine as there is a risk of complications from... infection with the vaccine virus. Sadly, there have been three fatalities associated with Zostavax. Zostavax is used to prevent shingles and to treat nerve pain associated with the varicella-zoster virus, and is included on the National Immunisation Program for people aged 70 to 79 years. While serious reactions are very rare, it is important that consumers and carers are aware of the risks and that you speak to your health professional if you have any concerns. If you become unwell after vaccination, you should seek medical attention and tell your doctor that you have recently received Zostavax. Read more: https://www.tga.gov.au/alert/zostavax-vaccine-1
