24.01.2022 Have you moved your clocks forward an hour? For all of 30 seconds on Sunday I had the joy of thinking that we had all slept in! That is until I was gently reminded that although I was on the Queensland side of the bubble my phone was set on Sydney time and had automatically moved forward an hour. So I hadn’t woken at 5.30 it was really 4.30!! Now the weather is warming up iced coffee, iced chais and cooling drinks are what we are all looking for. Visit Jeremy at Raw Earth Organics at the market this week and pick up a bottle or two of his Two Amigos Cold Brewed Coffee. Making iced coffees will be a breeze. And while you are there check out his juices and kombuchas. They come in lots of flavours and are all so refreshing @raw_earth_organic .

24.01.2022 Is there anyone who doesn’t love blueberries? Only if you haven’t yet eaten Tallogum Berries blueberries because we know that once you try these you will understand why there is a rush to buy them every week. It is all about FLAVOUR. And right now they are at their seasonal best BIG, sweet and juicy. It is Sergio, who works for Paul and Natalie at their family farm, that you meet at the Tallogum Berries market stall each Wednesday.

23.01.2022 Are you an alliophile? A garlic addict? Even if you aren’t I am sure you will be thrilled that new season garlic has been harvested at two of our farm stalls. So fresh! So sharp, juicy and good for us. I can’t imagine life without garlic can you?

23.01.2022 Spice Palace has made a beautiful fresh batch of their very popular coriander pesto. Rob and Duska use their own organically grown coriander supplemented with coriander from Summit Organics. Tomorrow they are making a fresh batch of parsley pesto with pecans from Tweed River Pecans. So, for the easiest of meals this week pick up some fresh pasta from Woodland Valley Farm and a jar or two of pesto and voila! You will have a hearty healthy meal in a jiffy!

23.01.2022 Asparagus is in season right now and here in the Tweed, it is a relatively short season, so enjoy it while it lasts. It is available at The Bio Organic Farm stall and at Sylva Lining Organics. Tip: don't overcook asparagus - blanche for only about 3 minutes as our asparagus spears are quite slim. Did you know that like all vegetables, asparagus doesn’t instantly die when it is picked? It continues to engage in metabolic activity including intake of oxygen, breaking down... starches and sugars and releasing carbon dioxide. The speed at which these processes occur is typically referred to as the respiration rate. Compared to most other vegetables though asparagus has a very high respiration rate so that means it is more perishable than other vegetables. How you store it is important and it is best eaten within 48 hours of purchasing.

23.01.2022 As hot days challenge us we look for lots of cooling drinks such as Raw Earth Organic’s kombucha. Enjoy it at the market or take a bottle or 12 away for your afternoon drinks. Imagine relaxing this afternoon enjoying this magarita. It is made with strawberry blonde kombucha, fresh strawberries and your usual margarita ingredients. We also have iced chai, nourishing smoothies, Yogi Nectar, iced chocolate and lots more.

22.01.2022 New season ....dragon fruit (pitaya) are available at our Jumping Red Ant stall this week. It tastes like a cross between a kiwi fruit and pear with a distinctly fragrant aroma and is delightful cut open length wise and eaten by spoon or blended with Everest Farm bananas into a smoothie or into moulds to make appealing red ice blocks. Add some cream or coconut cream and voila another taste sensation. Dragon fruit have a beautiful flower that only opens at night so thanks Mountain Family Farm for this amazing photo. It begins closing as the sun rises so makes pollination difficult but if the bees are quick then it works. The sunrise phot o is thanks to Jumpng Red Ant.

20.01.2022 More local artisans are joining us this week and a fabulous new (at the market) musician - Josh Lovegrove. Artisans this week are Emubeads, Chelle and the Fig, Gravity Accessories, Bedouin Hawk Designs and Colour and Words. As well as the local CWA with all their Christmas goodies and the Murwillumbah Mens' Shed with boards platters and much more. So much more to enjoy this week . See you bright and early.

20.01.2022 John and Frieda de Kleuver from Southview Orchard are bringing more of their amazing white and yellow nectarines and peaches tomorrow AND a refrigerated trailer so they will have heaps more than last week. If you missed the white nectarines last week - hopefully this week you will be in luck.

20.01.2022 Cherry tomatoes picked by Luke at The Bio Organic farm are all ready for tomorrow's market. Oogie and Basil harvest approximately 250 kilos of truss tomatoes and 80 -100 kilos of cherry tomatoes EVERY week. WOW! What a magnificent achievement! Enjoy the plump juicy sweetness of their Tommy Toe cherry tomatoes - the best ever. Combined with delicious Grumpy Grandma’s olives they are perfect in a Greek salad. They are also THE perfect tomato for Yotam Ottolenghi’s quick and simple Charred Tomatoes with Greek Yoghurt. For the recipe search Ottolenghi at The Guardian or Izy Hossack's version at #topwithcinnamon #izyhossackrecipe #grumpygrandmasolives #thebioorganicfarm

19.01.2022 A wall of green beans @thebioorganicfarm. Delicious ever so lightly steamed with a dash of sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds or simply served with lashings of butter.

19.01.2022 What a long season this year for our brassicas? Usually with the heat they have finished or at the very least are much reduced by now BUT we still have lots of cauliflowers at Summit Organics and cabbages at The Bio Organic Farm while Jumping Red Ant has been busy picking carrots and green beans. All ready for you at the market tomorrow morning. And kale abounds at all the farm stalls.

18.01.2022 Blueberries are still producing and we will have them for another couple of weeks if we are lucky. This is always depending on the impact of weather so enjoy this bowl of deliciousness while they last.

17.01.2022 The days before the market are always extra busy harvesting the freshest produce for us to enjoy. Here are photos of Tania picking sorrel, Rod picking bok choi and Ryan cleaning beetroot and ginger ready for tomorrow. I love sorrel but not everyone knows about it so here is a quick and simple recipe for you to try from Ginger Smith's website Lemon, Thyme and Ginger and it is from a full recipe for Potato Salad with Sorrel Dressing. Sorrel Sauce with Yogurt 2 cups / 500 ml cle...aned sorrel leaves 1/2 cup / 125 ml plain yogurt 1 clove garlic Fresh chives finely chopped about a tablespoon Kosher salt to taste See more

16.01.2022 We have lots of deliciously healthy leafy greens in abundance right now. These photos sent to me today or during the past couple of days by the farms mentioned that show just a little of all that they each have. Huge amounts of kale picked this morning at Summit Organics; snow peas picked at The Bio Organic Farm and large lettuce grown by Sylva Lining Organics. And of course there is so much more. This is only a tiny snapshot of what is available.

14.01.2022 Has our weekly market newsletter dropped into you in-box today? If not please click onto this link to read this weeks news. A brief spotlight on our local Caldera Honey story and lots more - https://mailchi.mp/144c2b04/market-news-28th-september-2020

13.01.2022 Wishing you a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you at our first market in 2021 - this Wednesday 6th with all our beautiful fresh food as always.

13.01.2022 It seems that more items are being left behind at the market than usual without a follow up call. Several weeks ago the bag in the photo; today two bags containing market produce - one attached to wheels PLUS a smartphone. Please PM me if you think you are the owner of any of these items. The phone owner called but left no return phone number for me to call back on!! And No caller ID so I can't return the call.

13.01.2022 These are just a few of the beautiful fresh flowers that await you at the market this week. How could you not be tempted?

11.01.2022 If you are feeling like an easy meal then Tusta from Heart and Halo has some wonderful meal packs for you. I know from first hand experience having just devoured Tusta's delicious vegan and gluten free lasagne. Oh my goodness it was delicious - so full of flavour. Tusta became a chef as a teenager, working in hospitality and all aspects of the commercial food industry but he became disillusioned with so much ego involved. Food produced simply for making money was not his ca...lling. So, with a passion for travel and different cultures, he set off around the world cooking with many different Indigenous people and noticed they all approached food with the same reverence, joy, and grace as they cooked. So now using simple, unprocessed, vegetarian whole foods and high protein lentils and beans combined with healthy balanced stimulating spices, and of course a lot of LOVE, Tusta brings you his Frozen Boxes. Pop it one of six in the freezer and you can choose when to eat it. It is that simple - and delicious.

10.01.2022 Costanzo Apples have their delicious Pink Lady apples at the market now. While delightful to munch into any time of day, Pink Lady apples are a great dessert apple because they not only retain their shape when baked in pies, tarts, and pancakes or poached in wine paired with cinnamon, nutmeg or vanilla but the flesh is slow to oxidize when cut. So this makes them especially suited to being sliced on cheese boards and into sandwiches and salads. In fact it is such a great all-rounder that this sweet-tart apple offers a delicious flavour to applesauce and purees. ENJOY some this week!

09.01.2022 A phone and glasses were left at the market this morning. Please call me or message me if you think it is yours.

09.01.2022 Radish is an often underrated vegetable and when buying it super fresh from the market where it has vibrant healthy green tops you can use the tops as well. I first learnt about using radish tops from Jamie Oliver who says "radishes are best raw, sliced into salads and sandwiches or even left whole and dipped into humous for a healthy snack. The young leaves (the tops) are delicious in salads or cooked in the same way as spinach. Radishes are also well suited to stir-fries or... quick, Asian-style pickles because they hold their crunch and don’t go soggy" . To use the tops in a salad simply finely slice them and toss through. Belinda Jeffery reminded me of this last weekend with her beautiful Instagram post. Belinda is a local northern river's cookbook author and cooking teacher who posted about making a bowl of thick, nourishing soup using radish tops. She combined these with potatoes and green garlic to make her "new favourite radish top, potato and green garlic soup with parsley and green garlic 'pesto'". Guess what I am planning on making this week?

09.01.2022 If you missed out last time then book now for the final spring Summit Organics Farm Tour. Due to COVID places are limited and booking is essential. See Tania or Ryan tomorrow or send me a quick message if you want to reserve your place.

09.01.2022 Exciting news just in right now from Costanzo Apples! They will have cherries and apricots THIS week. The family farm has delivered and Andy, Michele and Rob have checked them over and they are all good for this week. YAY!

09.01.2022 Jaboticabas are ripening along the coast and soon if you live a little further inland. Loved by many who have discovered their secrets, #jumpingredant will have some jaboticaba fruit at the market this week. Sometimes referred to as the Brazilian grape tree, its fruit grows directly on the trunk and branches. It has white flesh with a unique sweet flavour and a tart tasting thin edible skin. You can make jams, preserves and eat them fresh. One chef I read about likes to use them in a duck dish. So perhaps they go well with meat. A little experimenting might produce some interesting results. How do you like to eat them?

08.01.2022 It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas with our CWA ladies, Janet and Jan bringing all their Christmas baking to the market. Our artisans begin setting up with two this week and more during the coming weeks. Next week the Murwillumbah Mens' Shed is back with lots of boards and platters plus their quirky creations so every week will be different. So much to enjoy with Leigh James bringing his beautiful music today too.

07.01.2022 In abundance now are the very versatile zucchini or courgettes (a name of French origin) as they are called in Europe. I was fortunate enough to enjoy stuffed zucchini for lunch last Friday with my book club friends at Potagers A Kitchen Garden restaurant. They were superb. Instead of zucchini flowers our farm stalls all offer a range of zucchini from small regular zucch's to large Romanesque grown by Sylva Lining Organics. They even have one that weighed in at 2.8 kilos. W...ow that would feed a family especially if you stuffed it! In May this year, Country Living wrote an article 60 Best Zucchini Recipes You Can Enjoy for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner in which they said that "zucchini is inexpensive, nutritious, and its mild taste and creamy texture make it incredibly versatile. From classic recipes like zucchini fritters with chilli lime mayo to more newfangled options (zucchini cookies with brown butter cream cheese frosting, anyone?), you'll be surprised by the variety you can elicit from this one magical vegetable." So let's get creative with zucchini this week and share our results.

06.01.2022 Guess who is bringing his music to our market tomorrow? Yes the joyful Jerome Williams with his melodic, percussive, funky, rock based roots. Lots of fun.

05.01.2022 Lyn from Mad Mountain Family Farm at Tomewin has made fresh batches of their most popular jams and sauces as well as some new flavours. They are available in gift sized jars and mini samplers and include the newbies - dragon fruit and fingerlime plus papaya and passionfruit, mulberry, nectarine and ginger, and peach and vanilla. They are all made with fruit from their farm; fruit that is all organic as Lyn and Tim grow without using any pesticides and chemicals.

03.01.2022 Guess who is bringing their fabulous uplifting music to our market this week. Yes Tin Parlour. For those of you who are a little curious about their genesis.... Jane Garrett formed Tin Parlour in 2017 to perform her original songs - an eclectic mixture of rock, folk, blues & pop. Jane writes about love, our human experience & environmental challenges. Sweet harmonies are a hallmark of a repertoire that spans everything from chilled ballads to edgy & melodic country rock. We are thrilled to have Jane, Chris, Gabrielle, Tom and Mat. Woohoo!

01.01.2022 It's a BERRY good market this week with blueberries, raspberries AND blackberries thanks to Blueberry Fields who are returning to our market. Suzanne is back at the stall - a familiar face to may of our long term customers. AND Most of our regular stallholders are back this week with just a few who will be returning next Wednesday.

01.01.2022 Crabbes Creek Woodfired bread brings customers from far and wide who simply can't imaging life without their favourite loaf. And no wonder as this artisan bread made so beautifully by Gina tastes divine. What is your favourite?
