23.01.2022 Hello, all you theatre-starved MTC fans. Murwillumbah Theatre Co is excited to announce our 2021 programme, with all productions to be performed at the newly renovated Murwillumbah Civic Centre under strict Covid-safe conditions. We know that most of you are keen to get out and about to experience the joyous side of life again after these strange times. Naturally, we will be guided by government policies, but we can barely wait to entertain you all again! The first performan...ce will be the TV comedy favourite ,KEEPING UP APPEARANCES which has made the transition from the small screen to the stage, running from Fri March 5 to Sun March 28th. This is a completely new, unseen stage play written by Roy Clark and starring Hyacinth Bucket (who insists it is pronounced Bouquet) the character made famous by Patricia Routledge. "Keeping Up Appearances" spans five seasons from 1990 to 1995 and was a huge hit with its hilarious and eccentric characters with series repeats still aired on TV to this day. Next, from Fri May 21 to Sun June 6, MTC presents THE OLD PEOPLE ARE REVOLTING! by Devon Williamson - an hilarious comedy about seniors seeking revenge. The Sunshine Retirement Village residents are fed up with being ignored, so they’ve decided to prove to the world just how dangerous seniors can be! On Sept 14th for two performances only at 10am and 5pm we will have the Windmill Theatre Co from Adelaide performing BEEP, a magical new show for children. This is a playful and highly interactive production aimed at children aged one to seven that celebrates friendship through puppetry, whimsical staging and lots of laughs. Windmill’s creative team made the multi award-winning hit Grug and the Rainbow which was so popular with schools and families in 2017. Finally, the year wouldn’t be complete without our usual family show in October and November. This year will be a blast from the past. A magical peach! An imprisoned boy! Insect friends! An incredible journey! Roald Dahl's story, JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH comes hilariously to life in this delightful dramatization, previously performed by MTC in 2009. All tickets (still at $20) will be on sale on our website and at Larkins Electrical Shop in Main St, Murwillumbah 3 to 4 weeks before the opening night. We look forward to seeing you at one or more of our performances in the New Year.

22.01.2022 "Something witty this way comes!" as Shakespeare would say, in the form of "Elsie and Norm's Macbeth" and you shouldn't miss it! It’s a lot of fun, and it’s Shakespeare Jim, but not as we know it! Fri March 13th, 7.30 pm at Murwillumbah's Autumn Club is Opening Night. BYO - cabaret style John Christopher Woods retelling of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, a murderous story of ambition and guilt, is determinedly adult and tongue-in-cheek. This play deconstructs one of the big plays ...mercilessly and with plenty of humour borrowing from just about every comedic format from Morecambe and Wise to Monty Python. In Elsie and Norm’s opinion Shakespeare’s script is too long and wordy and the play has way too many characters, so they simplify the original text to make it snappier and punchier, as they set out to act "one of the greatest pieces of literature what has ever been wrote in the English language"! Tickets online or from Larkins, Murwillumbah. See poster for details.

15.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we announce that our patron and former deputy prime minister and Nationals leader Doug Anthony has died, aged 90. He died peacefully in the Heritage Lodge aged-care home in Murwillumbah, northeast NSW, on Sunday morning his family said in a statement. Mr Anthony was leader of the Country Party/National Party for 12 years and deputy prime minister for nearly 10, influencing coalition policies for much of the 1970s and 1980s.... "Although Doug was privileged to serve the people of Australia in high office, he always considered his family to be his greatest legacy and contribution to the world," the family statement said. "He was very much a man of the Tweed region, and it is fitting that he should depart this life from within the community that he loved so much. "His family is tremendously proud of his legacy. While always very humble, he made a lasting contribution to the nation, and particularly to people in country Australia." He is survived by his wife Margot, his three children and nine grandchildren. our thoughts and condolences go out to his family.

15.01.2022 Opening Night of "Elsie and Norm's Macbeth" at the Autumn Club, Murwillumbah was a great success. You must see these two brilliant actors, Graham Scott and Claire Price, playing all the characters in Macbeth with a variety of accents and using their own interpretation of the story and the script. It's a scream! Whether you're a Shakespeare fan or not, you'll have a great time and marvel at how two actors can hold the stage and keep the audience enthralled! The play continues Sat March 14 at 7.30pm and Sun 15 at 2pm. Tickets from MTC website or via Trybooking and from Larkins, Main St, Murbah and at the door. Next weekend it's on to Stokers Siding and then to Tumbulgum for the finsl weekend, finishing Sun March 29
