25.01.2022 Beyond proud of these guys for stepping onto the platform and testing themselves. I love this sport and especially watching athletes as they develop from first touching a barbell to hitting consistency and then some PRs. Stu, @dr_sally_mikhael @lizzard_claire @rachyeha you all did so damn well! Cant forget @carlybarker_ who tested yesterday after her first 13 weeks as a remote athlete, super proud! Thanks to all of you for trusting me with your progressions and performance



24.01.2022 Due to the complete lack of direction from the Victorian government regarding the health care sector, I am forced to close the doors until we all get a concrete answer. With threats of fines in excess of $99,000 for the business and over $20,000 for a client if the reason isnt deemed legitimate, I cannot take the financial risk for either myself or my clients. I am incredibly sorry to everyone who has appointments booked after today. I will get in touch with all of you.... The president of our association has been on the phone to every government representative she can and still cannot get a straight answer. Once I have an answer, I will reopen the second I am able to. 21.01.2022 2 of our lifters from last night, Brock and Marcus (first session) drilling the basics over and over. A world class program isnt one with 400+ exercises over the course of the week. It has a focus on the major lifts you are trying to get better at as well as accessories that lend themselves to the majors.... Master the basics brutally well, add progressive overload and you will always see progress.

20.01.2022 @chelle_gill came in last week after a recent arthroscope on her left knee. She was having issues with squats and couldnt squat pain free. In the first video you can see an obvious hip shift TOWARDS the painful side. Second video is a counterweight squat to keep the torso more upright and re-learn how to use both legs equally in the concentric phase of the squat.... Just before this, I had Michelle do a couple of sets of banded Spanish squats to fire up the quads like no tomorrow. Lastly you can see the result of 1 hour. Nice and even air squat with no pain. 18.01.2022 You dont win every time you try. You can LEARN though. As clich as that is, (Im gagging myself), its the truth. Ive been the guy who spat the dummy (sometimes badly) and carried on like a goose if I missed a lift that I should have made.... Different mentality now.. 98% of the time anyway. I watched this back and the list of what went wrong is too long to write. Now that just means I learnt a lot. Primarily dont overpull the absolute sphincter out of the barbell. You dont win the wrestle.

16.01.2022 Roughly 370kg drag the other week. Great way to build strength/endurance in quads, gluts and upper back especially for those who may not be able to achieve pain free movement with squats/deadlifts/lunges etc. 99% of the time you can train around injury, pain and discomfort.

15.01.2022 Eva, Elle and Sienna got feedback from their gymnastic coaches that they needed more strength and control in the shoulders (for floor routines and bars) as well as trunk control and strength especially in handstands. The girls did 5x20 of these. This is NOT a rep scheme I would give to anyone who is not already quite strong and controlled in movement.... This dead bug/DB pull over challenges them to maintain trunk stability while moving limbs and large amounts of control through the lats and serratus anterior for the shoulders. Dont wish for easier, just get stronger.

15.01.2022 Supine psoas march demo by Makenzie. I much prefer a supine march to a standing as you get less rec fem activity and a LOT more psoas. The key to that is to pull both knees to the chest (past 90 degrees at the hip) and THEN kick one foot out. Rec fem is very weak in this deep hip flexion position but psoas is not.... Train smart, not just hard. I use something similar to 3-4x10 each leg to make sure I can pull into a deep squat position :) Happy squatting.

13.01.2022 Spent 4 days learning from the best group of spinal rehabilitation and performance experts at @backfitpro led by Stuart McGill over the weekend. These guys have given everyone who attended this course many tools and skills to use in clinic and I am eternally thankful! To say this was incredible is a terrible understatement.... I cannot wait to put everything into practise and continue to give each and every client the absolute best when it comes to assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of back pain! 12.01.2022 Meet @robbieturnbull aka @turn_the_tables_fitness Robbie is one of our coaches at @peninsulaperformancecentre and 3 days ago, competed in his first show! Robbie did this show while finishing his final year at uni and at the end of preseason for footy.... Ive always been a massive advocate for taking advice only from those who have an extremely strong understanding of the info they are giving. Robbie epitomizes this by throwing himself onto the stage just so he knew what it was like to compete in a sport that is VERY different from his own. Legend. 08.01.2022 A lot of people feel like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders at the moment. Rightfully so. Pick the fucking thing up and throw it over your head.... Dont quit, reach out to those close to you when you need it and when you have a minute of calm, put your nose to the grindstone and work. Thats not just a training metaphor either. That includes work, friends, family, health, hell.. even organize your sock drawer if it makes you feel better. If youre angry, use it productively. If youre upset, get on a FaceTime call with someone you should check in on and help them out too. Put yourself in a position to succeed and come out better even though you probably have every reason to lay down and quit. 08.01.2022 Chin ups! Put simply, we are a bald Ape. Hanging is one of the best bang for buck things you can do for shoulder, wrist and elbow health as well as grip and pulling strength.... Play around with different grip width and hand position to find the best technique for your current mobility/strength. Im using strict supine pull ups to counteract all of the internal rotation I use with work AND training. I am pausing in a dead hang between reps and initiating the pull with scapula depression then retraction. This may not be the best way for you dependant on desired outcome but if you do crossfit or weightlifting, highly likely this will be the best option! Balance out your body! 05.01.2022 Too much of a good thing tends to not be a good thing. @connorsahely4 came in today after hurting his shoulder pushing a mate. His mobility is incredible. So much so that its a hindrance. Rule #1 ZERO shoulder mobility.... Rule #2 do the prescribed strength work at least 4 times per week. (Prayer press with partial range, isometric inverted row holds, static shrug hold and lat drags with a band). Tension is your friend. Rehab is, at its core, strength work. Treat it as such. I told Connor this was going to feel like a full upper body workout because IT IS! Hadnt even finished work today and I got this message . Nice work dude. Keep an eye on @comingsoonmyo

01.01.2022 This is what doing your rehab (strength and motor control) properly and consistently looks like. It has taken a couple of appointments with a few weeks between each one to see progress but we have gone from almost no scapula control and extensive winging, to this! Very, very happy with this outcome Michelle!... We started with static strength of serratus anterior then moved onto dynamic strength and motor control. Initial presentation was frozen shoulder. If you have shoulder pain and are ready to fix it long term, pop into the clinic/rehab centre/gym at 71 Watt road Mornington and say hi!
