23.01.2022 This Airzone 5057 dates from 1938 and was made in Auburn, NSW. The Symphony Leader is the largest Bakelite mantle radio designed and manufactured by the Airzone company. The tombstone cabinet shape for this radio was a popular form of radio cabinet design prior to the Second World War. Its on display now at Museums Discovery Centre.

22.01.2022 This home-made caravan from 1962 reflects the popularity of caravanning holidays in the 50s and 60s. Originally a motorised van on a Model A Ford truck chassis, it was converted to a towed caravan by Francis Gerald Rhead and used by his family until 1979. Full object record: https://ma.as/213452

20.01.2022 In the yacht "Ice Bird, adventurer Dr David Lewis made the first single-handed voyage to Antarctica in 1972 and continued his voyage in 1974. What makes this yacht significant is that it was not designed for the Antarctic, having been purchased second-hand in Sydney and modified for the purpose. 18.01.2022 The round fifty cent coin was only issued in 1966, and was replaced by the twelve-sided coin in 1969. We have one on display in Store 3 at the Museums Discovery Centre.

18.01.2022 With its distinctive wing configuration, the Transavia PL-12 Airtruk is one of the most significant aircraft designed and manufactured in New South Wales, with approximately 120 made in various versions. Designed by Luigi Pellarini and first built in 1965, the Airtruk was made for agricultural use and was ideal for crop dusting.

17.01.2022 This is a rare example of the first commercially-available TV receiver called the Televisor. From February 1930, TVs like this one in England received transmissions broadcast from the BBC. 15.01.2022 This year marks the 40th anniversary of the portable Blood Glucose Monitor developed by Sydney engineer Stan Clark. After his diabetic daughter Lisa had her blood tested in hospital with a heavy mains-powered meter, Stan designed a world-first portable version so children could monitor their own glucose levels. 04.01.2022 A unique piece of Sydney history. Harrys typically Australian fast food, especially his classic pie n pea floaters, captured the publics imagination and made the Cafe de Wheels a unique part of the citys nightlife. It attracted blue collar workers, sailors, taxi drivers and late night revellers from Kings Cross. It even became a tourist attraction. International celebrity visitors included Frank Sinatra, Johnnie Ray, Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Robert Mitchum, Shirley Maclaine, Phyllis Diller, Colonel Sanders and Elton John.
