19.01.2022 HAVE YOU SEEN THE QUEENSLAND BUSINESS ASSISTANCE FINDER? A useful and straightforward tool to help you find what the government has on offer for small business during COVID #COVID19 #coronavirus
18.01.2022 WHAT ARE PEOPLE READING YOUR POSTS ON? I have been doing some publicity work for a book and have been surprised that at least 80% of people were accessing the posts on mobile devices! On the screen, you are holding in your hand right now. :) The photo is real data from this morning. I knew it was skewed to these, but not by how much. So, this is something to bear in mind if you want people to actually read your posts. For video, this means good lighting, good audio, no whiteb...oards, and closed captions to accommodate those wanting to read out in the wild with the sound off. For stills, this means plenty of contrast and good-sized fonts. Does this depend on where the target audience was? To some extent, but the only difference I can see from 7 months of weekly posts, is whether the reading was done on FB, Instagram, or other news feeds. It was always mobile, with desktop computers routinely featuring less than 5% (often much less) of the time. Thought for the day. Have Fun! #postoftheday #mobiledevices #newsfeed #posts #placements

14.01.2022 WHAT IS ALL THE FUSS ABOUT WEARING A MASK?! Seriously, I don't understand the uproar about wearing a mask. Everyone has their own opinion, this is mine: - are you wearing your seatbelt in the car? - do you wear a helmet while riding on a motorcycle?... - do you wear your life jacket on a boat? - in restaurants do you still smoke? - are you wearing your seat belt on a plane? These things are mandatory! But wearing a mask is a dictatorship???? When I wear a mask in public and in stores, I want you to know that: I'm educated enough to know that I can be asymptomatic and still give you the virus. No, I don't live in fear of the virus; I just want to be part of the solution and not the problem. I don't feel like the government is controlling me". I feel like an adult contributing to the security of our society and I want to teach others equally. If we could all live with a little more attention to others, the world would be a better place. Wearing a mask doesn't make me weak, scared, stupid or even controlled". This makes me considerate of the situation and also of others! When you think about your appearance, your discomfort or the opinion that others have of you, imagine there is a father, mother, daughter, son, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, a friend or neighbour in the hospital on a ventilator and intubated. They are completely alone, without any family members being allowed to approach their bed to be with them and hold their hand. Ask yourself if you could have helped them at least a bit, maybe by wearing a mask. Be part of the solution! Copy and post. (Credit to whoever made this post) #COVID19 #coronavirus

12.01.2022 CYBERATTACK My wife just received this from the Education Department: The Prime Minister has announced Australia is currently being hit with a large-scale cyber-attack.... At this stage there has been no identified activity against the Queensland Government, however the attack is targeting Australian organisations across a range of sectors, including government, industry, political organisations, education, health, essential service providers and other critical infrastructure. All staff are reminded to remain vigilant when it comes to protecting yourself and the department from people dishonestly trying to compromise you or the department’s network. If you or any other staff receive a dodgy looking email, please do not open it or any of the links within the body of the email. It doesn't matter if an email is spam, junk or phishing. If in doubt about its authenticity, the safest thing to do is report it by forwarding the email as an attachment to [email protected]. Reported emails will be forwarded to our cyber security team to manage. For more information about common scams and how to identify and report them, please visit the Cyber scams OnePortal page. #cyberattack #cybercrime
12.01.2022 MERRY XMAS, EVERYONE, AND FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS FOR 2020!!
11.01.2022 POSSIBLE SCAM ALERT I have just seen this on the Department of Social Services - Community Grants Hub site (https://www.communitygrants.gov.au/), and I quote: "The Department of Social Services (DSS) has recently received reports that members of the public have been contacted via phone and social media, by an individual or individuals offering government grant funding.... Some members of the public have reported the individuals claimed they were from the ‘Department of Social Services’, ‘Australian Grants Commission’ or the ‘Australian Government Grant Department’. Instructions were provided to the member of public on how to access their grant funding, which included paying a fee. These claims are false and these individuals do not represent DSS or the Commonwealth. DSS officers do not: - cold call members of the public to promise grant funding - contact members of the public seeking personal information, such as bank details, passport or license numbers. It is a serious matter to impersonate a Commonwealth public official. It may even be a criminal offense, carrying a penalty of imprisonment in some circumstances." What to do if approached or if you need assistance If approached in this manner, do not give any personal information. If you are uncomfortable with the nature of the call or approach, simply hang up. We encourage you to report incidents of this nature. You can visit Scamwatch on www.scamwatch.gov.au to report to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), and you can contact the DSS fraud reporting hotline on 1800 133 611. If you contact DSS in the first instance, we will obtain as many details as possible from you about the incident, including your contact details. If appropriate, DSS will refer it to the police or other relevant authority including the ACCC. If you have already provided information to a caller or are concerned that a crime has or may be committed, please immediately contact the police, your bank or the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) if it relates to your passport details." #scamwatch #COVID19 #scam
08.01.2022 COVID- 19 ISOLATION READING - KEN FAIRWEATHER'S MEMOIR, FAREWELL WHITEMAN! Over the last few months, I have been working with the incomparable Gloria Webb Webb of Jabiru Publishing (https://www.jabirupublishing.com.au/) on publicity for Ken Fairweather's memoir, Farewell White Man.... The book is selling like hot cakes in Papua New Guinea, with most of the sales generated through Facebook. We are getting a reach of between 12,000 and 37,000 per weekly post with three to four thousand engagements, translating to a steady flow of sales. Sales are also going pretty well on this side of the Torres Strait, with Farewell Whiteman #1 Best Seller at Collins Bookstore in Smithfield, Cairns! Here is a taster - one of the dozens of great yarns in the book, Something to read while waiting out COVID-19! READ A STORY FROM KEN FAIRWEATHER'S MEMOIR, FAREWELL WHITE MAN: BOB VAUGHT THE TEXAN Hal Morgan of Morgan Equipment had taught me at Ok Tedi that to deal with Americans you have to dedicate yourself to your task and work as partners in the process. ...A side benefit was that I became very close friends with Bob Vaught, the drilling manager for Chevron. This was a relationship based on 20% work and 80% friendship. We were soul mates: same sense of humour, same love of the outdoors, fishing, drinking, bragging and playing golf, and totally hating the law and rules, and intolerant of authority . Bob was a Texan, 6 6, 130 kilograms, a Southern good ole boy; he didn’t like Yankees and California wine-sippers but was a Democrat voter. Bob and I went fishing every second weekend at Galley Reach. He loved river fishing, and we did this for three or four years. However, with the two of us in a little tinny, things got a bit difficult at times. It was like having a bullock in the boat. One Sunday, we stopped to have lunch, dropping the lines over into the Laloki River while we ate. A rod bounced and Bob leapt for it, with the boat in total danger of tipping over. So, I jumped in the water to save the boat. Now, this river had crocodiles in it, and also sharks. I was drifting away from the boat READ MORE - BUY THE BOOK AT COLLINS BOOKSTORE IN SMITHFIELD OR THROUGH THE WEBSITE: www.farewellwhiteman.com.
