08.01.2022 In this 90 min workshop Iain from Mushroom Head will guide you through some history of mushrooms, the health benefits of mushrooms and some very low tech ways to grow your own. We will focus on reusing and recycling as much as we can to easily grow mushrooms at home; at school anywhere you have a space and a spray bottle. You will take home a grow your own kit that will produce mushrooms in around 3 or so weeks, a workbook that you can refer to anytime, we will also send emai...l updates with new research around mushrooms along with hints and tips to keep you growing and learning about the amazing Fifth Kingdom. With the rise in urban populations, the need to sustainably meet a growing demand for fresh and healthy food is highly important. Why you should be excited about growing mushrooms? The cultivation of mushrooms in an urban environment setting reflects a big step towards sustainable urban farming practices. Our model is based around the idea of a circular economy, where waste outputs are eliminated or reduced by repurposing these wastes in new and innovative ways. By growing our own mushrooms in our own urban farms, we will be directly contributing to supporting a circular economy whilst raising awareness around sustainable farming. Urban mushroom farming promotes sustainable local food production whilst providing a plethora of environmental benefits. Unlike many large scale agricultural operations, growing and selling food locally reduces the distance that your mushrooms will travel and the amount of fuel required to transport them, resulting in reduced food miles Spaces are limited so please purchase your tickets early to avoid disappointment. www.mushroomhead.com.au
