22.01.2022 A beautiful night on Saturday-a trial run to see how The Citadel will operate. Difficult as many people we would love to be here after our very long chapter wit...h The Citadel but cannot (family, ‘above the border’ friends and even more local friends) -COVID restrictions etc. But now we know it can work. So an enormous thanks to all those that helped us along the way (Pat Miller, Sue and Dave, the many tradies, and the creative Northern Rivers cluster) for the encouragement when we’ve been exhausted and sometimes disheartened with it all. A particular thanks to those dear local friends who offered their talents on Saturday (after tiring of hearing me say ..yes it will be open ‘soon’. The incredible world class acrobatic duo Casus, Ice Cream Friday, Rob, Alonna, Mara and of course Kellie Butterworth-We will be always grateful that you pushed us that little bit. It’s all new for us but we know your experience and advice is invaluable. Those days i spent in hospital wards smelling urine and toast each morning (Belfast hospital in particular) dreaming of something else, then I bought a 12 string guitar one afternoon, which I still cannot play, but it symbolised that something else. 12 years ago we bought this place-falling apart-white ants holding hands, leaking roof etc. Bondy met the challenge in more ways than a builder normally would as you can imagine (with impractical dreamy moi). Then land slips, replanning and engineering feats..many frustrating moments and weeks. There is still more to go (such as the private rooftop garden and croquet court)..but the 100 year old building has a new lease on life.
