24.01.2022 Classics Dinner - A beautiful formal evening with performances by the Music Scholars and Fellows of St George's College. Captured perfectly by Partografia Photography & Film

24.01.2022 Happy St George’s Day! Whilst it has been a difficult time, we couldn't be prouder to be Georgians. Our Music Programme might be on hold, but our Music Scholars and Residents have made what music they can to make life just that little bit more bearable. From the musicians of St George's College, Happy St George's Day!

23.01.2022 We were very sad not to be able to host the wonderful Oxford and Cambridge Singing School at St George's College as planned. However we are delighted to share this wonderful online course - "Five Songs in Five Days". Dr Edward Wickham and his team of esteemed tutors have devised a wonderful resource for children around the 7 - 13 age range who love to sing! Repertoire, technique, music appreciation, theory games and more! Take a look below

18.01.2022 At a time like this, we are blessed to have so many fantastic musicians living here at St George’s College. Kira O'Dell is one of our Clough Music Scholars, and a Choral Scholar with the Chapel Choir and Chapel Consort. A student of Sara Macliver at the UWA Conservatorium, she’s also the President of the UWA Music Students Society, and a deeply thoughtful musician and highly regarded College resident. This is Ride This Feeling, by Kate Miller-Heidke.

17.01.2022 As we navigate such troubling circumstances, moments of calm and simple beauty are as precious as ever. Maxwell Mayall is in his second year at St George’s College and a 2020 Clough Music Scholar. Softly spoken and deeply thoughtful, Max attributes his sense of belonging at College to having "...found a tremendous sense of membership and purpose within the College community and Music Programme. A student of Adam Pinto at the UWA Conservatorium of Music, Max offers a piece close to his heart. I wanted to play this piece after hearing a Horowitz recording where he is able to evoke such a strong emotional response through a very reserved performance approach. It is quite an intimate piece with beautiful simplicity. This is Franz Liszt, Consolation no 3 in D flat major.

16.01.2022 We welcomed the incredible Samantha Clarke- Soprano to St George’s College recently, where she recored Dvoák’s beautiful Song to the Moon in the Hackett Dining Hall, accompanied by the one and only Caroline Badnall. Originally from Perth, Samantha is a multi award-wining soprano making waves in the UK. Amongst many more successes, Samantha is the winner of the 2019 Guildhall Gold Medal, and is a recent graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama Opera School as a Baroness de Turckheim Scholar, Help Musicians, Tait Memorial and Countess of Munster Trust Scholar, and studies with Yvonne Kenny. Be sure to follow this wonderful local talent, and look out for any chance to see her perform whilst she's temporarily back home!

16.01.2022 As we continue to travel into uncharted territory along with our community, and the rest of the world, we don't want to lose touch of our compassion and humanity. We're going to do our very best to continue to deliver music to you in these uncertain times. We will be releasing a lot of what you would expect, classical pieces that you know very well. However, some days, we might release something a little different. Nicole Zlotnikova-Smith is one of our Clough Music Scholars a...nd a talented classical violin student, studying at the UWA Conservatorium. Over the weekend Nicole worked on something a little different. Nicole wrote and subsequently released this original in two days. Initially, it was sung alongside ukulele, however on the day of filming Nicole felt it would suit better to be accompanied by piano. It's fantastic to see our residents continuing to innovate and push their own boundaries during these times. We hope you all enjoy this beautifully intimate original by Nicole. This is Some Day.

15.01.2022 Tomorrow night the Perth Horn Society will perform their Solo Recital Night, in the Ruth Rodgers Room here at St George's College. Join them for a glorious night of Horn music, accompanied by our own Graduate Artist Adrian Soares!

15.01.2022 The St George's College String Quartet was one of the first ensembles formed in our Music Programme. With acclaimed mentor Paul Wright, the Quartet has notably won 1st place in the Fremantle Eisteddfod Open String Ensemble section (twice), the Royal Schools of Music Ensemble Competition and the Royal Over-Seas League, Western Australia amongst many other things. They have also performed at Government House and played in Masterclasses for the likes of the Australian String Quartet and Ens String Quartet. We can't wait to see our Quartet in person again, but this online version is pretty great too! Quartet members Olivia Bartlett, Adrian Biemmi, Miah Smith and Shannon Rhodes have taken on the challenges of an isolated recording. Please enjoy this video where they play a section of Mozart's Quartet No. 14 in G Major.

14.01.2022 Many of our residents have had to make the tough decision to leave College to be with their families during this unprecedented time. Each of these departures is felt deeply by our remaining residents, as the College is itself an extremely close-knit family. This afternoon we said goodbye for now to Caitlyn Stone, a much-loved resident, Mockingbird, and Choral Scholar in the St George’s College Chapel Choir. Caitlyn wrote this song for a departing friend, but felt it would be... fitting to share at this moment when so many are apart from the ones they love. While we are sad to lose Caitlyn, this departure isn’t forever and we hope this song conveys our best wishes to all of you and your loved ones during this time. This is Fare Thee Well.

14.01.2022 The College’s Vocal Specialist, Brianna Louwen - Soprano, has been featured in the West Australian Opera's series of isolation performances! Performing Bellini's 'Eccomi in lieta vesta... Oh! Quante Volte' with fabulous Caroline Badnall in our beautiful new Ruth Rogers Room. Along with Director of Music Christophe Karas, she runs five of St George’s College’s fabulous choirs and gives coaching to the Chapel Choir’s Choral Scholars. Brianna was awarded a WA Opera Young Artist position for 2019/21, and has also featured on Classic FM with Australian Baroque.

09.01.2022 Our wonderful friend Anna Lapwood has done it (again!). 60 organists from around the world, playing the complete organ works of JS Bach in 24 hours! Featuring Perth's own Alessandro Pittorino. Money raised is going towards the wonderful people of Mukuni Village, Zambia, through the great work of the Butterfly Tree Charity. Anna and St George's College's Director of Music Christophe Karas visited and worked with the people of Mukuni in 2017. Right now they are suffering from a long drought, the Corona pandemic, and a devastating loss of income. Small amounts go a long way, if you can spare a little. In the meantime, enjoy these wonderful works by fabulous musicians from the world over! To donate to the Butterfly Tree, follow this link: https://www.facebook.com/donate/724140351462015/

08.01.2022 We love our Mums! From all of us at Music at St George's, a very happy Mother's Day! In particular we're thinking of those who, for whatever reason, are not able to be with their mother or loved ones, or for whom today brings grief or sadness. May you be safe and well, and may our hearts be ever full with the music of love. A little treat, from the College's Vocal Specialist Brianna Louwen - Soprano. xox
