25.01.2022 In order to participate actively in music as an adult, your child needs years of exposure to music as a young child and opportunities to experiment with music. Eventually, he will acquire the ability to sing in tune and keep accurate rhythm in his body. This milestone is called Basic Music Competence (or BMC). At Music Together with Sarah, we believe it is every child's birthright to achieve this music development milestone. So, keep singing and playing with music with your child everyday

15.01.2022 The cycle of learning: reception and expression I talk a lot in class about noticing what the children are doing in response to the music but I also want to point out that not doing is just as important. Not doing is when your child is in the observing and absorbing mode. They are taking it all in and storing up the information until they are ready to experiment with it. Likewise, parents sometimes worry that their child USED to be moving and singing in class and now t...hey are just watching. This is because their learning is like a continuous spiral. They take in information, they experiment and play with it and then they are ready to take in more information.

10.01.2022 #thinkingthursday Children learn to keep accurate rhythm in their bodies by having lots of exposure to different music and also opportunities to move to music u...sing their WHOLE bodies. We love that a child can simultaneously hear the beat, see the beat (as mom or dad is tapping or dancing along to the music), feel the beat (if some is holding them in their arms & dancing or tapping on a back or foot) and eventually read it too. 09.01.2022 ..."learning a language and learning the fundamentals of music are almost identical. From birth, typical babies quickly learn to tune into the voices of their parentslong before they understand any actual words. At this stage, conversation is little more than patterns of rhythms and sounds that convey emotional meaning"

06.01.2022 "We usually think of that unidirectional relationship: When Mom sings to baby, it's to change the baby's behavior," Cirelli says. "But I think the really new interesting thing here is considering how it is also affecting the mom."

01.01.2022 Lullabies help soothe a child and are a wonderful way of ensuring there is always a time in your day when you snuggle up close and sing to them. It doesn't matter what your voice sounds like - to your child- it is the most important one in the world and the one they long to hear.
