25.01.2022 I had restocked my prize shop over the weekend, but it’s looking a bit empty again after Sarah earned several prizes after sitting her very first piano exam yesterday, and Ruby earned a prize for completing her first lesson book.

25.01.2022 I don’t work with any one particular method or syllabus - I work with each student according to their age, needs and interests. These are some of the theory books I work with (there are others too!). This is what I needed for this coming week, with many students recently completing their previous book.

25.01.2022 First Rockschool exam via video submitted! Ive had students undertake face-to-face Rockschool exams over the years, and students submit video exams for the Australian Guild of Music Education (which has been available as an option for some years). Rockschools video exam system is new and a response to the covid19 situation. The first exam in a new format in always the hardest! Im looking forward to the feedback!

25.01.2022 Fabulous results were received today from the August Rockschool exams. I'm so proud of Sarah, Connor and Mufaro - all 3 Passed with Distinction, and for two of them it was their first face-to-face exam experience!

24.01.2022 Now that many of my continuing students have booked their lesson slots for 2020, I have posted the slots that have yet to be filled / new lesson slots that I have opened up for new students. Please get in quickly! These are now first come, first served. https://www.musicwithsimone.com.au/2020-enrolments-open/

23.01.2022 Ive just picked up some music books from Crescendo Music - primarily to ensure I have a copy of each book that students zooming in for lessons are using at home! But I like to grab something extra for fun - this time I got the music from the Frozen II soundtrack.

22.01.2022 Here are the current restrictions in relation to private music studio teaching for the week ahead: Teachers are exempt from wearing a mask while teaching Primary school age students are exempt from wearing a mask... Older students should wear a mask during the lesson. Private music studios do NOT currently need to use the SAFE WA app to register students / parents.

21.01.2022 My Rhythm Swing Hall of Fame is being updated a couple of times a week at the moment, which is awesome as it means that so many students are completing the various levels.

21.01.2022 Experimenting with a new set up for online teaching - to make it easier to type notes while on Zoom Ive moved to my bigger computer in the home office, which means Ive had to move a keyboard in next to the desk as well. Lesson books for Monday, Wednesday and Saturday classes are all lined up; my Thursday students have all resumed face to face lessons.

20.01.2022 Most students have selected some Christmas songs they have been working on this term. Its always good to have familiar songs to enjoy! Heres an opportunity to win a book of Christmas songs for Piano.

20.01.2022 At the request of my student Holly, I've arranged the theme from the US series of "The Office" for early intermediate piano. It's now available from Sheet Music Plus at: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/21964515?aff_id=720555

20.01.2022 How to clean a keyboard - notated!

19.01.2022 Well done Sarah and Connor for fabulous performances at the West Australian Music Teachers Association Student Forum today. This was Sarahs first public performance.

18.01.2022 When your lesson is in one hour but you havent practiced this whole week.

18.01.2022 How delightful is this!

16.01.2022 Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

15.01.2022 Life is returning to a new normal! With public performances able to go ahead again, my theatre organ practise sessions have resumed (yay!), and Ive just enrolled 3 students for the next round of face-to-face Rockschool piano exams coming up in August.

15.01.2022 A massive CONGRATULATIONS to Joya on an incredible result in her recent Grade 8 Electronic Organ exam: 98% (High Distinction)! So very proud!

13.01.2022 With a background in natural therapies as well as music, diffusing essential oils in the cooler months which keep germs at bay has been the norm in my studio. Im currently diffusing doTERRAs OnGuard, Purify and Easy Air / Breathe blends. I also add Tea Tree oil to wet wipes for wiping down surfaces in the music room.

12.01.2022 One of the apps I use with students is Rhythm Swing, which helps students learn to follow rhythms precisely. They must both tap the rhythm precisely on the beat and hold the notes for the correct (exact!) length. It takes beginners a while to be able to confidently do both these things, particularly with complicated rhythms at speed. So to acknowledge the achievements of students who have shown mastery of this by beating the "boss" in each of the 3 levels on Rhythm Swing - which in many cases represents weeks or months of trying! - I maintain a "Hall of Fame" in my studio which students are added to when they complete each level. Today one of my newest students, Kai, beat the boss of the first level of Rhythm Swing, and has now joined the Rhythm Swing Hall of Fame. Well done Kai!

12.01.2022 One of my newest students, Ruby, drew this gorgeous picture of me after she finished working on her theory sheets.

11.01.2022 I find nearly every student wants to learn to play Fur Elise and In The Hall of the Mountain King. This book of mine gets a LOT of use as it has simple arrangements of these songs that students can quickly memorise.

11.01.2022 A lovely surprise delivery today from an exam sat last November! Mufaro is a superstar who completed *3* Rockschool Piano exams last year - under unusual circumstances with covid restrictions, no less! We skipped Debut and jumped in to Grade 1, and she completed Grades 1-3 in quick succession, with wonderful results!

10.01.2022 Heres a chance to win $5000 to spend on music equipment like keyboards! https://wn.nr/9wCASs

09.01.2022 Its fabulous to see students continuing to practise over the school holidays. Well done to Sarah for being the Piano Maestro star student this week - she spent 2:19 hours in Piano Maestro on top of her other repertoire and exercises! Way to go Sarah!

09.01.2022 Im proud to be a WAMTA Accredited teacher. To be recognised as such, Ive had to prove that I have the requisite qualifications for my instruments, a track record of successful teaching, and an ongoing commitment to professional development.

09.01.2022 Another fabulous exam result - we skipped Debut and went straight to Grade 1, with the exam being conducted online. Mufaro is sitting the Grade 2 exam face to face in a couple of weeks, and I wish her and my other 2 students sitting their Rockschool Piano exams that day all the best!

09.01.2022 Due to the Covid19 situation, the Australian Guild of Music Education had to cancel their graduation ceremony in which they celebrate the achievements of the Guild students who would have publicly received their awards. Instead, all Certificates and Special Awards have been posted out, and all teachers have received a copy of the booklet in the mail. It was a lovely surprise to receive my package in the mail today, with the Outstanding Achievement Award for Joya from her Grade 7 Organ Performance exam last year.

09.01.2022 There are several delightful videos being shared of impromptu community musical performances on balconies as the Italians deal with being quarantined. Being able to play a musical instrument or sing can be a lovely way to come together positively with others and help pass the time in a fun way.

09.01.2022 I thoroughly enjoyed hearing from Phillip Keveren and seeing a selection of his prolific arrangements. Ill be purchasing some for some students to have a go.

08.01.2022 I recently purchased some removable highlighter tape, and it has been getting so much use! So far it’s been used to mark changes in hand positions (as in this song), accidentals, fingering... and with students helping to choose which colour to use they remember better what it is they need to remember.

08.01.2022 This just arrived today! Congratulations again Connor on an outstanding exam result!

08.01.2022 I dont work with any one particular method or syllabus - I work with each student according to their age, needs and interests. These are some of the theory books I work with (there are others too!). This is what I needed for this coming week, with many students recently completing their previous book.

07.01.2022 Confirmation was received today that the May RockSchool exams will now be video exams. https://rockschool.ameb.edu.au/videoexams/

07.01.2022 I had restocked my prize shop over the weekend, but its looking a bit empty again after Sarah earned several prizes after sitting her very first piano exam yesterday, and Ruby earned a prize for completing her first lesson book.

07.01.2022 This is something I find many parents have difficulty grasping. The students who do regular daily practise for a reasonable amount of time progress well. They perform confidently in front of others and pass exams with flying colours. Those that dont practise struggle to retain anything weve done previously, which is no fun for either of us.

05.01.2022 Summer Camp will start in Piano Maestro next week - just in time for our winter school holidays in Perth! Each week a new Summer Camp song is released in 3 different versions. Every student who earns 3 stars in that weeks song goes in a draw to win an Amazon gift card from JoyTunes.

05.01.2022 To date I am the only piano teacher in Perth who submits students for the Rockschool exams. I have the entire set of repertoire for the first series; the 2019 syllabus has seen all new technical work and songs released, and I am gradually building up my collection of those books too! My students love the Rockschool syllabus - with modern songs they know and love with fun backing tracks to play along with its a heap of fun to teach as well!

04.01.2022 Today Maya started working with Alfreds Premier Level 2A, and it was very fitting that the first song in the Pop and Movie Hits book she had requested was the Star Wars main theme! Perfectly timed for Star Wars day today.

03.01.2022 Publicly available pianos can be a fabulous source of joy. The ARC Artist Retail Collective Inc Armadale has a piano in Jull Street Mall - how lovely is this performance?

02.01.2022 Congratulations Melvina for passing your 2nd grade Piano for Leisure exam!

01.01.2022 I've been able to publish my first work under copyright. "Black Catcher" is the 10th opening theme to the anime series "Black Clover". This was another request by my daughter Ariana, so it is arranged to her level (intermediate piano). This one has an MP3 so you can hear how it goes: https://www.musicwithsimone.com.au/black-catcher-piano-arr/

01.01.2022 Rockschool Exam dates and fees for 2021 are now available! I've now uploaded all the details onto my website, to avoid needing to reference 3 different websites / PDFs to locate all that information! https://www.musicwithsimone.com.au/exams/rockschool-exams/
