25.01.2022 Day one of Targa Tasmania 2019 started with the only street stage in the event, the George Town Prologue. After a couple of warm up stages in the West Tamar region, we headed to George Town which is the oldest town in Australia as well as being the third oldest settlement in the country. The stage is 5km long and takes us up the towns main st and past the towns main central park, along the riverfront and past Paterson Monument which marks the spot where Lieutenant-Colonel P...aterson landed on Tasmanian soil and claimed it in the name of King George III. We completed the stage in 3:27, a time 6 seconds faster than last year which has us in 11th place in GT2 with 5 days competition ahead of us. The car is feeling fantastic and we are looking forward to some rest stages ahead. Thanks Angryman Photography for some great shots of the car provided to us and all our supports too. 22.01.2022 Day 2 of the Lake Mountain Sprint today had a forecast of fine weather with a late change so things were looking good for a dry run. There wasnt much to do to the car overnight except for some basic checks and fuel. We started off well and won the first stage by 13 seconds and the second stage by 5 seconds but dropped off the pace a bit on the third stage and placed 4th, 9 seconds off first. We had a bit of a pep talk and got our heads back in the game and in the last 3 st...ages of the event we managed to win them by 3, 9 and 5 seconds respectively. We finished with 1st place outright and a 2min 9sec gap to second. This was the last round in the Tarmac Rally Championship and with some ups and down over the 4 events we were happy to take home the win in 2wd Showroom also. After this event we are both feeling very happy and confident with the car ad are looking forward to coming together for Targa Tasmania in 5 weeks time. There will be a few changes to the cars lively which has already started as you might have noticed with a different logo across the rear quarter. Thanks to our weekend service crew Shaun Cairns. Not only keeping the car in order but has some great stories to share. Thanks also to Ravage Raceworks who helped us out with tools when Shaun couldnt be there. Pretty selfless to help the blokes beating you but that is what we are all about. Thanks to the event organisers for a fantastic weekend and a well run championship. These events are underrated and we can not recommend them enough for any level of driver. They include a tour group for those that want to have the chance of using a full road with no threat of oncoming traffic and you can set your own pace. Race Solutions keep the stages running and competitors safe in the event of an incident and give us plenty of encouragement and smiles too. You positively add to our weekend experience and we appreciate you looking out for our wellbeing. RallySafe too (look up their website if you dont know what they do) keep us safe with what has to be one of the best innovations in rallying. Thanks to our fellow competitors for the competition and friendship. We have laughed a lot this weekend with you and felt your pain when things havent gone your way (we have been there ourselves after all). Thanks to our sponsors, we see this as a win not just for us but for you too. We encourage our supporters to support them too and give Mustang Motorsport a mention when you do. We hope you have enjoyed following the event and look forward to keeping you updated during Targa Tasmania. #CapricePaper, #WideTreadTyres, #RohdeSmashRepairs, #ShelbyAmerican #WhippleSuperchargers #melbournemustang6g #Mustangownersclubaustralia #pony6g #targa #MustangMotorsport #CrossovercarConversions #shockworks See more

10.01.2022 Day 4 of Targa Tasmania was forecast wet weather and wet it was! The field headed West with the biggest stages of the event so far and some iconic ones too like Cethana, Riana and Hellyer Gorge before finishing the day in Strahan. After the days previous incident we didnt feel much like risking it all so it was quite a conservative drive to survive the wet and slippery roads. It doesnt feel like the wrong decision when we pass car after car that have succumbed to the trea...cherous conditions. Cethana was especially challenging, not only being slippery but visibility being very poor at times with cloud cover (the course traversing two mountains). This year the last stage of the day was one that hadnt been used in a few years, Reece Dam. This stage had more grip and the surface was starting to dry as the stage went on and Craigs confidence grew and the results showed with a 5th placing. It was a nice way to end the day. At the end of leg 4 in the event we are in 8th place in GT2 and looking forward to day 5s competition which is also forecast wet. 06.01.2022 Saturday is the last day of Targa Tasmania and consists of 6 stages South of Hobart. The forecast was for showers and we got away with the first stage, Tinderbox, being dry and the rest wet. Today for Craig and Mary was a survival day to get to the end of the event. We missed nearly all of day 5 and some great stages and the Southern stages were known to be slippery in the wet. We made though the days stages without incident and got our finishers medal and celebrated the end ...of another great Targa Tasmania. Though we did have a couple of incidents the Mustang showed us she is made of strong stuff and didnt let us down. We also found out that the Mustang has had one of the highest G forces recorded and still continued competing when we came off road on Elephant Pass stage. We would like to congratulate our competition and fellow competitors on their results, especially Paul Stokell and Kate Catford on their wins in GT2 and outright competition. A big congrats to fellow Mustang competitors Darryl and Sharon Carr for placing 3rd in the Rookie class, narrowly missing out on second. This was their first Targa Tasmania and a big eye opener for them Im sure. Thanks to Mustang Motorsport employee Aaron Solway for crewing for us and getting in the mud and dirt to fix broken things. Crewing can be a thankless job where you get ordered around and dont get to see any of the competition but we appreciate all he does to keep the Mustang going. Thanks to the event organisers and especially the volunteers. They stand out in trying conditions so that we can race and we appreciate you giving all that time to us so we can rally Tasmanias amazing roads. On that thought, thanks to Tasmanias councils and the local government for their support, both financial and allowing the event to run on their roads. Thanks to our sponsors Castrol for the best oil to keep the Mustang engine reliable and strong, Caprice Paper for their great paper products, Rohde Smash Repairs for their help when it doesnt go as planned, Widetread Tyres for fantastic rubber, Ferntree Gully Bolts for holding it all together, Shockworks for riding out the rough roads with us and Red Bolt Communications for keeping everyone up to date with our exploits on Pony Press. We have enjoyed keeping you all entertained with our week of fast and fun. Thanks for your support and we will see you at the next event somewhere. Craig and Mary. 04.01.2022 Day two of Targa Tasmania is where the competition really begins. The days stages to the West of Launceston include some now iconic ones including Sheffield and Mt Roland. There had been some rain overnight and the roads were both wet and dry. The first stage High Plains was wet and the Mustang was finding it a bit slippery. Luckily other stages were not like this and just had moments of being slippery though the hard bit was knowing where those bits were. We traveled well th...ough, made it through the day incident free and moved from 16th place to 8th. A PB for Craig on Mt Roland and possibly more stages. The car feels great and is eager to chew up every piece of Tasmanian road we compete on. Tomorrow we head East towards St Helens and look forward to another day. We will wait till morning to see what the weather is going to do. 04.01.2022 Mustang Motorsport woke up in beautiful Marysville to the sound of Magpies and the not too distant rumbling of race cars getting ready for the day. The sky was red and the clouds were building up with the threat of rain. After the first warm up stage the rain started and the first few few stages were wet and slippery. Add a bit of oil dropped by another competition car and it created some excitement for the teams as you came in to a corner waiting for understeer, or maybe i...t will be oversteer this time! After a few wet stages the wind blew the clouds away, the sun came out and we went from wet to intermediate and then dry stages. As usual Craig makes suspension adjustments to the car depending on the conditions, but now it is become less trial and error and more about knowing where it should be for the influencing factors. We have had some good runs and got used to the wet and then adjusted to the dry roads and won the last 3 stages. At the end of the day we have moved in to first place with a bit of a lead. Having a well earned coffee and some cheese and crackers at the end of the day before we head to the event dinner tonight. Weather forecast for tomorrow we believe is fine but we will wait and see and deal with what we are delivered. #CapricePaper, #WideTreadTyres, #RohdeSmashRepairs, #ShelbyAmerican #WhippleSuperchargers #melbournemustang6g #Mustangownersclubaustralia #pony6g #targa #MustangMotorsport #crossovercarConversions #AustralianShelbyRegistry #shockworks See more

04.01.2022 Happy birthday to our Targa Mustangs!
03.01.2022 Day 3 of Targa Tasmania is a roller coaster ride down to the East coast via The iconic Sideling stage. The weather was dry and the roads thrilling with lots of crests and dips, ups and downs, tight and flowing. We had a great fun in the mornings stages on the way to lunch in St Helens and in the afternoon had two more stages, Elephant Pass and Rossarden. Unfortunately we came unstuck 1.5km in to Rossarden, slid off road and hit a bank on the passenger side. Little panel dama...ge but two broken rims and a flat made it a slow drive the 10km out of the stage. We got through, got Aaron and Dave to come to us and they threw on a spare and we got going again to make it to Rossarden in time. Gingerly started Rossarden stage but our confidence in the car grew and we did a decent time considering. Just managed to get the car serviced within the allowed time and gave her a quick clean in the Silverdome for the show and shine. An eventful day that could have gone a lot worse. Back in it tomorrow for a big day with huge stages like Cethana, Riana and Hellyer Gorge on the way to a night in Strahan. 03.01.2022 It feel like just a week ago Mary was getting off the plane at Melbourne Airport on the way to the next Tarmac Rally. This will be the last trip up to the big island for a few months as and rally season is winding up soon for Winter. This weekends event is the Lake Mountain Sprint which runs out of Marysville. These roads have become quite familiar to the team now and we go in to the event with a full understanding and respect as we know first hand how treacherous the mounta...in road can be. Craig at Mustang Motorsport has been busy showing off the car to the public at a few display events that have been happening around Victoria but he is really looking forward to being able to put the car through its paces again. We are both looking forward to catching up with the organisers, volunteers and crews again and will try to keep you updated as much as we can through the event. #CapricePapers, #WideTreadTyres, #RohdeSmashRepairs, #ShelbyAmerican #WhippleSuperchargers #melbournemustang6g #Mustangownersclubaustralia #pony6g #targa #MustangMotorsport #crossovercarConversions #shockworks See more

01.01.2022 Day 5 Targa Tasmania is a big day with 6 stages in to Hobart including Strahan and Mt Arrowsmith which is the longest stage of the event being over 52km long. The rain was coming down heavy at times so more wet stages which would make the 33km of Strahan a bit of a challenge. Unfortunately the challenge was too much for team Mustang and we spun off the road and got bogged but as far as we could see, no damage. When we got dragged back on to the road by recovery we suspect tha...t is where the car has had something happen under the bonnet and oil started to appear. So, a tow truck ride to Hobart for the car and a ride in a van with a couple of entertaining competitors from WA for Craig and Mary and hopefully not a late night for Aaron and Craig fixing the car so we are back in it tomorrow. We will put a bit more Castrol oil in and we will be set.
