17.01.2022 "This article is about the ancient paddock trees that dot our rural and urban landscapes. They are a feature of our living environment, solid, very old and undemanding. They are reminders of what once was here before we came. Sometimes they are very rare examples of trees that are found nowhere else on the planet." https://www.recreatingthecountry.com.au/blog

11.01.2022 WORKSHOP TO EXPLORE THE FUTURE OF THE MUTTAMA CREEK CATCHMENT AREA THURSDAY 29 APRIL We wish to warmly invite you to participate in an exciting workshop to consider the future of farming and biodiversity in the Muttama Creek Catchment Area. WHAT COULD THE FUTURE OF RURAL LANDSCAPES LOOK LIKE IN YEARS TO COME? WHAT OPTIONS ARE THERE TO INTEGRATE PROFITABLE FARMING AND SUCCESSFUL BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION IN THE REGION? ... These challenging and exciting questions are central to an upcoming community workshop to be held at Coolac Hall on 29th April 2021, from 9am to 5pm. The workshop is co-hosted by The Australian National University Sustainable Farms project and Leuphana University of Lueneburg (Germany), and organised in collaboration with Muttama Creek Landcare Group. It brings together land managers and local organisations to discuss how land managers, farming families and local communities can flourish and still enable nature to thrive into the future. The workshop builds on 94 interviews conducted with people in the region in 2020 as part of the research project The Future of Farming and Biodiversity in Agricultural Landscapes: the Muttama Creek Catchment Area. The Muttama Creek Catchment has been on a long road of change but is facing increasing volatility and pressures in the future (e.g. climatic and demographic changes and market pressures). During the workshop, different future trajectories will be identified as a basis for a shared community vision from which future catchment planning and funding opportunities can be developed. A follow-up workshop on Friday 14th May will build on the future aspirations and identify actions needed to move towards a future that is desirable for the local community, farming landscape and biodiversity. The outcomes of the research will also feed into the ongoing work by Sustainable Farms in supporting sustainable and profitable agriculture on the South West Slopes. The workshop will be facilitated by Paul Ryan, Director of the Australian Resilience Centre. For further information and RSVP (essential) contact Annie at 0417 717075 or register via Eventbrite https://future_workshop_muttama_creek_area.eventbrite.com.a

08.01.2022 The AGM and BBQ were a big success. Thank you to Myles and Louise Sullivan for providing the perfect venue. The weather, though very welcome rain, did result in some extra apologies. We now welcome Vivien Thomson as our new President, Jon Harpley, Vice-president and Jamie-lee Oldield as Secretary/Publicity Officer. We are looking forward to a busy and rewarding twelve months.

"I love working (and volunteering) with Landcare b...ecause it is all about people working together for the good of their local environment and community. People can do so many different things through Landcare, but at its heart it’s all about people who care about their world coming together and doing something about it." "I love that I can be proud of what I do at work, and that my kids get excited about what I do and what to get involved!" 07.01.2022 Looking for work in the wonderful world of Australian Agriculture? The National Farmers' Federation has launched a new online resource to connect Australian jo...b seekers with employment opportunities in agriculture. The Australian Farm Jobs resource at https://farmhub.org.au/australian-farm-jobs/ collates the key websites where farm jobs are listed and encourages farmers to register their ‘positions vacant’. The site also provides useful links to estimated earnings from various farm jobs and skills. NSW Farmers is conducting a workforce survey of farmers to determine labour requirements for the coming six to twelve months. With the closure of Australia’s borders to working holiday makers and skilled international workers, many agricultural businesses may face challenges in accessing sufficient labour at harvest time. Farm businesses can take part in the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Q6ZYGXX See more
