25.01.2022 So despite COVID-19 we still need to get out to the island and check on the birds... Social distancing is practiced by the birds too as they have just one per burrow, which helps us practice our Social distancing. The next post will show a video from the special camera we are using that allows us to see up to 400mm down the burrow. Jenny Eather Nig Garvey
25.01.2022 Our drop off station boxes keep getting stolen! Pack and send kindly donated boxes so maybe people think they are packages or are using them for moving boxes? Please keep an eye out for us if you see people selling or using larger Pack and Send boxes :( They have a big sticker on the side to show they are for NPWS activity. This is extremely disappointing.
23.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE Hi everybody. So due to the Corona Virus outbreak we are having to review how we go about helping our fledglings this year. Whist the birds cannot get COVID-19, nor can we get it from them, sadly we can get it from anyone who maybe infected and we all need to protect each other in this time of trouble. So first point to note is: we are still hoping to get volunteers to help us in various roles. However, the orientations nights at the NPWS on the 24th and 25th ...are sadly canceled this year. However we are currently setting up an online version that people will be able to attend. If you have emailed [email protected] expressing interest you will be receiving more information on this when we are ready to go. If you still want to volunteer but haven't yet emailed [email protected] then please do so so that we can add you to the information email list. We don't yet know exactly how this season will play out but we are determined to make sure it is a safe one for everyone involved and we will all need to adhere strictly to the social distancing and hygiene guidelines that are being set up for everyones safety. Thank you again to everyone for your help and support in this endeavour. Stay safe, stay well and keep washing those hands people. Cheers. See more

02.01.2022 Over the last 50 years, the flesh-footed shearwater population has dropped by 30%. Plastic is a major cause of their decline.
