25.01.2022 Next up in our countdown to the announcement of the Team of the Decade is a snapshot into season 2011/2012. Another Menzies Shield finals series for the 1st XI.

25.01.2022 Vale John Gill It is with deep sadness that we pass on the news that John Gill passed away last Friday. John was one of the founding members of Mount Waverley Catholics Cricket Club and an accomplished player. He made the 2nd ever century for the Club, in the same game as the first, and was named as a member in our Team of the Century. He was a long time committee member. John was also a regular and passionate supporter of the Club, frequently coming to watch and support our ...sides and taking a keen interest in the up and coming players. When he couldn't get to a game he would ring one of the senior players and speak at length about the result and individual performances. In the last few years John was not able to come to our games as he would like due to his failing health, however he would make the effort for past players days and our 60th celebration, which was appreciated by all. His love of our Club's history was unrivaled and he was always quick to correct someone's recollection of events if they were different to his own (and therefore wrong). John's funeral will be at Holy Family Church on Stephensons Rd, Mt Waverley on Friday morning at 11.00 am. All teams will wear black arm bands next round in his memory, and he will be sorely missed. Please look to pass on this message to members of the club or community who otherwise may not have heard the news.

25.01.2022 Congratulations to Ras Van Der Merwe, our Mulgrave Country Club Player of the Week. Ras continued his scintillating form at the top of the order with a superb 76 against Edinburgh. An innings that included 9 x 4's and 3 x 6's, he was finding the boundary at ease. Ras has been a monster for the 1's this season, currently averaging 59 with the bat.

25.01.2022 Congratulations Lewis Hawkins, or Mulgrave Country Club Player of the Week. On a hot, slow day in the field, it was The Hawk's patience that paid dividends for the 1's. Bowling 16 overs straight into the breeze, Hawk managed to spin a web against Monash. It was a consistent and crafty performance on his way to his first 5 wicket haul in Burt Shield.

24.01.2022 With the 2nd XI kicking off their season tomorrow, the club is excited to welcome back Nick Hayes into the fold after a long stint out the game. We're just as excited to announce a host of debutants who will be playing their first game for the Caths; Glen Arbuckle, Vishnu Teja, Jayden Brown, Dylan Karunaratna and Varun Reddy. Get around the new flock of Mounters! The 1st XI will be at home defending 189 vs Trinity Willison. The 2nd XI will be at Swinburne Recreation Centre vs Richmond Union and the Netballers will be at Ashwood Netball Courts vs SCNC Storm at 4pm. We will be having a BBQ back at Mayfield after the matches and all players, friends and family are welcome to join.

23.01.2022 Last night was a fantastic celebration of the season that was 2018/19. Congratulations to all award winners, particularly Lewis Hawkins who walked away with his first Club Champion gong. We already can't wait to start the 19/20 campaign.

22.01.2022 A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello Mounters!! I hope you and your families are all well during this time! I know everyone is enthusiastic to get into pre season training, so Im writing this message to you all to provide an update on the upcoming cricket and netball seasons.... It is an uncertain situation at the moment and the rules/restrictions seem to be changing constantly. A month ago the committee was ready to roll out our pre-season cricket training schedule and the Netballers were gearing up for Round 1. But now we are in stage 4 lockdown, so both seasons are on hold until further notice. Right now, with the government looking to ease current restrictions in mid September, the ECA is targeting to start the cricket season in November and the WDNA are likely to shorten the netball season. I will provide more information once we have an understanding on restrictions post September and have further updates from the leagues. In the off season please stay fit, stay safe and stay healthy so youre ready to go when the season dates are announced. Take care, Andy Cyrill MWCCC President

22.01.2022 We are getting closer to announcing the MWCCC Team of the 2010's. Let's take a look at a snapshot of season 2012/13. It's the first year we missed finals, we saw a change in the captaincy mid-way through the season and some decent performances with the bat - very un-Caths like!

21.01.2022 What’s better than a good win? A washout! A few of the boys went down to our sponsor Hoops Sports Bar & Cafe to celebrate the washout in style yesterday. If you’re not spending the arvo watching the Mounters in action, a Saturday at Hoops is very well spent.

21.01.2022 We are very excited to announce Lewis Hawkins as the Captain of the Mount Waverley Caths for season 19/20. The Hawk has been at the club for 10 years, most recently as the 1st XI Vice Captain and reigning Club Champion. He brings excellent leadership on and off the field and will continue to push the club in the right direction. Matt Cummings will be his vice captain for the upcoming season and will continue his role as club coach as well. Matty brings a wealth of experience... and his knowledge of the game is unparalleled. Lewy will be taking the reigns over from Matt Jeffries who has captained the club for the past six seasons. MJ will continue to play and is looking forward to doing so under the new regime. We're very excited for the season ahead and couldn't be better placed to assert ourselves back on the winners list. #cathsbounceback

21.01.2022 With the recent developments around COVID-19, and the advice and direction from relevant governing authorities and medical experts, the MWCCC committee has elected to cancel our Presentation Night on the 3rd of April. We have no known cases of the COVID-19 virus in our club's community, but we understand it is contagious and potentially harmful to some people. We have elected to exercise caution as our members' health and welfare are our highest priorities The good news is we... will be able to announce all of our award winners at our Season Launch later in the year we will we also be announcing our Team of the Decade for the 2010s. 19.01.2022 It was a truly fantastic night at the club last night. The Major Raffle was celebrated by current cricketers, netballers, Past Players as well as numerous family and friends. A massive congratulations to life member, former president and premiership player Tony Hallett for taking out first prize and after negotiation, walking away with a cool $600. 2nd prize: Tessa Evans $300... 3rd prize: Micky Austin $100 There were about 20 spot prizes awarded throughout the night and those winners who werent in attendance will be contacted shortly. Matty played a steady hand in the middle of the innings coming in at 2/74 and remaining at the crease when the final wicket fell at 229. After a big pre-season it was no surprise to see Matty battle hard in the first hit out of the year.

The game is at 3:45 at the Ashwood Netball Courts (enter via Cassinia Avenue). St Benedicts have won every game this season, except for the time the Mounters tied with them in Round 2 at 21 points apiece. We should be set for an absolute ripper! The end of the 2019/20 season also marked the end of the 2010's and we have put a separate committee in place to select a Team of the Decade; the 6th one in the club's history. It has been narrowed down to a squad of 19 players. The final team will be announced at our Season Launch later in the year and as we count down to then, we'll throw back to some key moments the club has encountered in the past 10 seasons to ...relive some of the best wins and performances. Who do you think will make the final XI? What is your favourite Caths moment of the last decade?

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Ras Van Der Merwe, our Mulgrave Country Club Player of the Week. Ras was in breathtaking form on Saturday when he punched out his maiden Burt Shield century in just 30 overs. Chasing 160 for victory, he didn't have a lot of room for error carving up 62% of the teams runs off the back of 14 x 4's and 3 x 6's. It was a truly incredible performance by one of our stars.

09.01.2022 Congratulations James Gough, our Mulgrave Country Club Player of the Week! Fresh off a stint away from the game, big Joffa was on fire in his return game for the Caths. He took two early wickets and came back at the end to finish the job and give the 1st XI a round one victory. Always a fan of seeing the stumps flying, Joffa was at his best on Saturday with his lethal in-swinger doing significant damage to the right-handers.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to Andy Paolacci, our Mulgrave Country Club Player of the Week! The 2nd XI chalked up their first win of the season, off the back of an incredible 94* from Andy. Coming in at 1/24 in the 8th over, Andy was still in after the full 40 overs, steering the team to 7/184. Despite finishing 6 runs short of a ton, it was an incredible performance from the veteran.

07.01.2022 Congratulations Matt Jeffries, our Mulgrave Country Club Player of the Week. The skipper was back to his best on Saturday doing significant damage with the new ball. Using the overcast conditions to his advantage, MJ found his rhythm and bowled with good pace to ensure the 1's could successfully defend 217; eventually rolling Edinburgh for 99.

06.01.2022 Congratulations Matt Jeffries, our Mulgrave Country Club Player of the Week. MJ provided a steady head in the back half of the innings, picking the 1st XI up from 8/137 to a defend-able 189. With a strike rate of 66, MJ's half century was a mixture of patience and picking the right ball which culminated in 9 x boundaries for the day. A solid start to the season for our former skipper.

05.01.2022 It feels like a lifetime, but we'll finally be back playing cricket this Saturday! It's been an incredibly prosperous off-season for the Caths, despite the disruptions, and we're so excited to formally announce that with the influx of new and returning players, we are back to fielding 3 x Senior teams and a Veterans team for the upcoming season! Wish the guys luck for this weekends matches and for the season ahead. 05.01.2022 We're very excited to announce our captain's for the upcoming season. Lewis Hawkins will continue to take the reigns of the 1st XI and will be aided by the return of some key players to build upon last seasons performance. Garrett Kinchington returned to the club last season to great success and has jumped back into a key leadership position after captaining the 2nd XI in his previous time with the Caths. ... Whilst we don't have clairty on when the season will start just yet, we're prepped and ready to fire in 2020/21 having both Hawk and Gaz committing to these roles and leading us back towards success.

03.01.2022 Congratulations to Jo Foo, our Mulgrave Country Club Player of the Week. With the cricketers getting washed out on Saturday, it was the netballers who did the club proud with a 38-12 win against St Michael's. 'Red Foo' was a pivotal part of the win whether in attack or running through the middle. She's been a wonderful addition to the team and didn't stop all day.

03.01.2022 Congratulations to Kieran Anglim, our Mulgrave Country Club Player of the Week. Enjoying a consistent season so far, Kieran took it a step further on Saturday with a monster effort with the bat. The 2nd XI opening batsman chalked up an impressive 97*, batting the entire innings and just running out of overs to notch up the illustrious triple figures.
