Found myself in #wine country earlier this week, and unearthed a new gem while was at it! Just a cork-pop away from downtown Nuriootpa, @hewitsonwines not only churns out seriously killer plonk, but also some of the most epic #vineyard views in @mybarossa! But heres the kicker... They also have the WORLDS OLDEST Mourvèdre #vines (c.... 1853) - putting them in a pretty exclusive worlds oldest fraternity with fellow Barossans @penfolds (Cabernet Sauvignon), @langmeilwinery (Shiraz) and @cirilloestatewines (Grenache). And theyre all within 20km of each other! Needless to say, I celebrated immediately, making an absolute tit of myself on the deck with a glass of 2017 Belle Ville Rosé! I cant remember the last time Ive been so pleasantly surprised with a wine I havent tried before. Very fruity, quite sweet and with the softest fizz, this Riesling is excellent to drink on its own (insert sunny afternoon with a copy of @countrystylemag here) or with a shot of gin (@adelaidehillsdistillery 78 degrees, ALWAYS) with a slice of pink grapefruit and lime, for a quick summer cocktail.
