25.01.2022 Getting local manufacturing booming again! What do we need to do? I took part in the Federal Governments manufacturing forum held by Andrew Wallace, member for Fisher, here on the Sunshine Coast today. If you're looking at seriously scaling your manufacturing business over the next year, then you might want to look into your businesses eligibility to obtain a share of the $1.5 billion dollars the federal government has announced as part of its modern manufacturing strategy. I...t was suggested that if you're thinking of applying, you might want to consider using a grant writer for the application, but if you make it through stage one, don't forget they'll be asking you the questions, not the writer! After the presentation, I discussed the event with a couple of local business owners there, who were a little confused at the event and no surprise there. Is the secret to rebuilding our manufacturing sector simply about scaling already relatively successful businesses, or just rebuilding manufacturing in general, even low tech? The other issue that one lady said to me was we need to make it simple to know what's Australian produced so you can easily make a decision, especially at a supermarket. Why don't they make it easy to distinguish between Australian and not. Well that's simple, and it's probably because 90% of the income comes from non Australian produced or owned products. There's no doubt we have a long way to go and what's been made so obvious is the supply chain gaps we have and the out of balance reliance on imports and what we should be doing to fix the problem, is supporting locally made and owned, by making it easier to find them whilst focusing attention on import replacement, as someone else said today. One of the guest speakers today said that on the Sunshine Coast, there's a belief, that we don't have the skills or technology to do some things and in fact, one local school principal, has been telling their students, if you want a real job, you'll need to move away from here and go to a capital city and that's simply not true. We do have it here. But if we don't start supporting all local businesses that are locally owed, and local manufacture in both high and low tech areas, then that very well could end up being true. If you'd like the details of where to go for information about the modern manufacturing strategy and grants, it's all on the government website, or message me and I'll send you the link. If you want to support locally owned business, the first step is know who, what and where they are, because we have them here. Register as either a business or customer, it's free. Just click the link: https://form.jotform.co/90707302203848 Support locally owned business first. Support Sunshine Coast Business Now. See more

24.01.2022 Are you a local business owner that's wants to grow? The way we not only attract customers, but hold onto them needs to change. The focus locally and Australia wide, must turn to supporting local much more than it is now if we seriously want to start growing our local businesses and economy better, with less reliance on outside overseas owned businesses. The answer is incredibly simple, but if we don't change, nothing changes. Sunshine Coast Business Now is simply about focus...ing attention on locally owned businesses and educating buyers why this is so important. Even a minor change could add hundreds of millions of dollars into our local economies. Search via something like google and you get everyone, search using our local business directory, and you only get Sunshine Coast locally owned businesses. Get started by listing your business or register as a consumer to keep up to date with local businesses and their local deals. It’s free to list. https://form.jotform.co/9070730220384 Support local, buy local, stay local. See more
23.01.2022 The solution to surviving a pandemic and growing your business is probably simpler than most people think. Over the last 33 years in business for myself, I've survived through 18% interest rates, (yes 18%) the recession we had to have, the GFC and the great flood of 2011, that completely wiped out my business. Then along comes a pandemic that shuts down the world and with every lesson that you could possibly learn from, businesses still continue to get these four simple thin...gs wrong, that could change everything. - Brand - Strategies - Systems - And service culture. Improve these four key areas and everything changes, almost regardless of what's going on. And it often boils down to asking what if questions, so you don't get into situations, that most businesses around the world found them selves in. We can't protect from everything, but we could from most, if occasionally you asked the what if question. What would happen if we lost our biggest client, what would happen if you couldn't fly internationally. (Like that's ever going to happen right?) There are four keys to simple growth, but we've put together an 11 point checklist, see how you rate. It's free. Just email. No optin, I'll just send it to you. (But you can optin too if you like). Email [email protected] Welcome to Mybusinessnow and uncomplicated business growth.
23.01.2022 I caught up with local Sunshine Coast Qoin merchant Steve Devlin from Irise to tell us about the product development behind Irise and how Qoin is now attracting... new customers from all over the country, plus tells us how good it is to spend without using cash! 22.01.2022 To find a local business isn't always easy. These days most people Google for something and as a result, get options from everywhere, often from all over the world. We also tend to want to compare prices, probably nothing wrong with that, but if tackling something like a hotel for the weekend, then theres a chance you'll search through a multi national American based accomodation booking site, that markets an already discounted deal and then takes around 30% of that. And of c...ourse profits go straight back to the USA, and don't stay here. Only recently, hotel owners were speaking out against booking services like Expedia, (that just about own them all including once Australian owned Wotif) and have attempted to urge consumers to change and book direct. This is a very similar story to restaurants issues with food delivery services like Menulog, that also take around 35% and the problem that they face, if they don't! It's not an easy problem to solve and when people like Dick Smith get behind Australian hotel owners to help via a Book Direct campaign, and don’t get anywhere, you start to wonder if the problem is simply unsolvable. But I think it actually is, but it will take change. I recently mentioned that one thing needed is a brain reboot, so that we start thinking local first. We have become incredibly reliant on technology, searching using Google and phone apps, so it's going to take effort. The first part is this question. Do we care enough? And if the answers yes, then start looking for, and supporting local first. There are heaps of local shopping sites around. If you happen to live on the Sunshine Coast, then use ours. www.sunshinecoastbusinessnow.com.au will get you to our local business directory, search, find and stay. The next part needed is businesses need to get smarter and stop using sites and services that are overseas owned, look for local alternatives, and ones that don't change the ridiculous sums that these multi nations are charging. (We are all paying fir it!) It takes change! List your business here, it's free, just click on the link. We have other support services that we are currently developing including local marketing, local CRM and local rewards that are going to be cost effective and help local businesses grow. https://form.jotform.co/90707302203848 It's going to take change to support local. But the potential impact on our economy, and we currently need it more than ever, is in the billions. Find local, buy local, support local. See more
20.01.2022 There's one thing worse that losing staff, and that's having staff stay that aren't doing the job you want. Unskilled or untrained staff are the single number one reason that businesses lose clients and don't convert enquiries into sales. The answer is training! Skills, personal and confidence development, so they are actually capable, confident and understand clearly wants excreted of the role. Mybusinessnow run regular training workshops based around our Business360 and Bus...inessEsssentials program that include everything your team will ever need to perform to their maximum potential. 19.01.2022 Awareness is just about everything in business, (from all perspectives)! If they don't know about you, or can't find you, they won't buy from you! But they might buy from someone else. Success in business, is more about eliminating or minimising the lost opportunities, than it is about the product or service that the business does. Signs that don't work, (or no signs) website domains that have nothing to do with what you do, hotmail and gmail email address or not bothering to... put a phone number anywhere because you'd rather deal with enquireries through messenger instead, are all easily avoided missed opportunities, that not only cost you business, but simply handball it to your competition. Before you start out on the quest for the solution to business growth by spending even one dollar more on advertising, social media or a bigger and better website, just get all the fundemantals of customer attraction right first! There's absolutely no point in spending more money on advertising, if no one in the team knows how to handle an enquiry, if you have no idea of what happens to non converted sales enquiries, or if your location is impossible to find. (Just for starters). If you'd like a copy of ReStartRight360 just email and ask for it by emailing [email protected] As long as you get the basics right, business is uncomplicated. Welcome to https://mybusinessnow.com.au
19.01.2022 We are open! Local marketing 101. There is basically one simple thing with marketing, and especially for local business. Let people know you're open and that you even exist! If you don't, no matter how good your product or service is, you won't sell much! There are two key objectives with Sunshine Coast Business Now.... 1. Develop a platform that enables local businesses to be found and connected with. 2. Help those businesses build the skill levels that have worked for thousands of businesses over the last 30 plus years in building their businesses by simply getting their key business drivers right. The first part is overwhelmingly marketing 101: be findable! Make it easy to be found. Believe it or not, 99% of people (probably 99.9%) don't even know you exist and never will. It doesn't matter how good your product or service is and it could be the best, it just won't sell, if no one knows about it. So here are five simple things to get started and make that just a little bit easier. Good signs, brand, website that can be found. How easy is it to be found? Get someone you don't know to do a secret shopper. What do or don’t they see? Email address that's easy to remember. Stop using hotmail and gmail addresses that look like [email protected] and get a domain for $15 a year, then simply forward emails on if you still want to use your gmail, so people can find you with [email protected] instead. Make it simple to contact you. Don't hide your phone number. Sometimes it's like businesses actually don't want the business, so let's not put a phone number on the website or Facebook page, or let's hide it somewhere. Regardless of how hard it is to get social media working, that's where your customers are. So use it. Post regular, value content, and share. And when someone calls, emails, makes an enquiry, texts, messages or whatever, get back to them, don't delay. 80% of contacts don’t get any response! It never ceases to amaze me how many businesses (and it's most) continue to miss the absolute basics that make a huge difference. Standout, take advantage of every opportunity to promote your business (like the Sunshine Coast Business Now directory) make it easy to contact you, then get back to enquiries fast and give great service. Running a successful business isn't complicated, but the one thing we all need to do as business owners, especially in getting through 2020 and continue to grow our businesses, is firstly just get the basic key drivers right in every business. That alone, has the ability to double a business from where it is right now. If you’d like to get behind the SCBN program and list your business in our local business directory FREE, just click on the link. https://form.jotform.co/90707302203848 Sunshine Coast Business Now Think local first.
19.01.2022 What, you weren't prepared for a pandemic? Or, there’ll always be international travel, right? How to get it right, next time! It probably wouldn't be that hard to imagine, that around 12 months ago, no one would have thought that international travel, was going to be shut down for some length of time (and who knows when it will open again). Regardless of whether it's international travel, or any pre covid business strategy what may have been fairly straight forward then, pro...Continue reading
17.01.2022 How to really get local manufacturing going and growing again! I wrote a post last week about the manufacturing forum I attended as part of the federal governments modern manufacturing strategy and making available $1.5 billion dollars in grants to eligible businesses. Ask the majority of businesses that have ever applied for any grant, including the recent adaption grants, and the answer you'll get from the majority is nothing! The fundamental problem with grants like this i...Continue reading
17.01.2022 Don't walk away from potential leads, customers or business. That probably makes real common sense right, but you've got to wonder why most businesses miss it every day. I'm part of a number of networking groups, like most business people here on the coast and we regularly attend a networking event at a cafe, hotel, or local restaurant. How often does the owner or manager of that business come out, say hello, or make some effort to connect with the people attending, or what a...bout an offer for the next visit, and most have probably never been there before, and unless asked, probably never come back again. The answer, almost never! There's so much common sense in marketing its not funny, but it appears there's not much common sense out there. (Sorry if I’ve hit a nerve but...) If someone has walked into your business, do something, anything, to get that person back. There's just too much competition around not too. Get the fundamental back-end support systems working first, then spend money on marketing to grow and scale. It’s not complicated. It’s simple! Welcome to ReThinkBusinessGrowth.
16.01.2022 Australian coffee beans, verses imported. According to recent data, 1.6 million, 60kg bags of coffee beans a year is imported into Australia, and growing each year. That's 96,000 tonne, yet we grow, produce and roast quality coffee beans here in Australia and up until only recently produced only around 300 tonne from 30 producers around the country. Coffee price varies naturally, but you could say that at around $20 per kilo bag retail of bean, that's a potential $2 billion d...ollars worth! Now there's probably a supply and demand issue here, and at present we probably can't produce enough beans at a competitive enough price, to satisfy the total coffee drinking market in Australia, but surely it has the potential to grow, with support. Regardless of what it is, coffee, alcohol, groceries, clothing, food delivery, travel booking services and much more, the potential to dramatically grow our economy is there, but that only happens if we change the way we buy and look for ways to compete better with overseas production to narrow the gap on our reliance on imports. The first step has to be just think local first where possible. And the easiest way is to go direct to those local business. The Sunshine Coast Business Now directory makes that process easier and it's free to list your business. 15.01.2022 There are a couple of ways to grow a business. The expensive way, or the easy way! 1: Put a lot of money into marketing, advertising and branding. (And I do mean a lot!) or 2: Get everything in the back end right, first! Without doubt, the most confusing and frustrating part of running any business, (that doesn't have a million dollar marketing budget) is trying to get even some return from your marketing dollar. But all too often, small to medium sized businesses rely on fre...Continue reading

14.01.2022 Staff. Support and they grow, don’t and they go! Staff and the way they're supported is critical to their success, neglect that and you’re probably losing at least 50% additional income, just by them not caring about doing their job as well as possible. This week, I've had three examples of people I know, long term staff leaving an employer, because they'd just had enough! In all cases they loved their job, but continued to be disapointed in the lack of support and acknowledg...ment, their managers, bosses or owners, gave them. There's no doubt, the single biggest challenge that most business have, that employ people, is, the people, and the answer as to why is simple. They do next to nothing, if not nothing, to develop and support those people. No support, nothing, verses, the right onboarding and welcome to the team, makes a huge long term difference. Over the last few years in particular, every time I've encountered someone that grumbles about staff, I ask the same question. Do you onboard new people, conduct regular training, manage, support and recognise your team, and in almost all answers it's, "we just don't have time". Well the truth is you don't have time not to, because if you don't, that revolving door, lost skills, lost product and business knowledge (not too mention lost income) has to be rebuilt with someone new, every time. Here's the really simply solution. Change! Change the way you onboard, conduct at least weekly training meetings, monthly sit down reviews and manage the results you get, and then recognise their achievements, if they need to be recognised. The simple act of welcoming new staff, even before they start, followed by the the corect onboarding and initial training sounds so basic, but just all too often missed and business owners wonder why their staff leave so quickly. You won't save all staff, but you will save the ones that matter and the result is businesses grow. If you'd like a free copy of our staff360 checklist, just email. Welcome to Mybusinessnow ReathinkBusinessGrowth.
13.01.2022 Find, support, stay. One of the keys to local business success is the ability to be found. To find a business, be findable, create awareness and attract new customers. 02.01.2022 Hospitality360: Simple business growth. It can be tough in many different industries right now, and especially so in hospitality. Social distancing alone reduces the potential number of customers and closed borders means that most businesses rely on Queenslanders only. An article that came out last September in SmartCompany, well and truly prior to Covid, talked about how industry experts were reporting that it was the hardest time ever, and if you were thinking of getting in...to that industry, think again. And maybe that's why so many locations where cafes and restaurants once were, are still empty. Add to that our current economic environment, the high cost of wages and the low returns on delivery options like UberEats, MenuLog and Deliveroo and you can start to understand how tough it might be. Yet still I look at one restuarant, and cafe after another and see the same fundamentals of missed opportunities, that effect just about any business. I've produced a small ebook called Hospitality360 that covers where far too many hospitality businesses go wrong, the opportunities they miss and the basics of the simple solutions. If you'd like a copy just click on the link to see how easy it is to grow your hopaitality based business. https://form.jotform.co/90406585561864
