25.01.2022 The consumption of alcohol, use of diuretics, high levels of zinc, vitamin D all increase the body's need for magnesium. Consumption of large amounts of fats (including good fats), cod liver oil, calcium and protein decrease magnesium absorption. Fat-soluble vitamins also hinder the absorption of magnesium, as do foods high in oxalic acid, such as almonds, chard, cocoa, rhubarb, spinach and tea.... Early signs of magnesium deficiency include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and weakness. As magnesium deficiency worsens, numbness, tingling, muscle contractions and cramps, seizures, personality changes, abnormal heart rhythms, and coronary spasms can occur. #healthyliving #healthpsychology #naturalmedicines #magnesium

17.01.2022 ADHD is complicated, and there is not a one-size-fits-all treatment plan either. However, before-and-after imaging of the brain indicates that the correct treatment can improve brain function dramatically, not by making people living with ADHD into different people, but by removing barriers that prevent them from being the people they already are. There are seven types of ADHD, and it impacts many areas of the brain and the three neurotransmitters: dopamine, serotonin, and G...ABA. Studies have shown that GABA concentration is reduced in children with ADHD. GABA blocks nerve impulses, so that nerve cells do not fire too frequently. GABA is also responsible for the regulation of muscle tone. It is viewed by some as our body's natural calming chemical, as it ensures balance in the functioning of our nervous system. It's critical to know which type of ADHD a child presents with before embarking on a treatment strategy. For example, if a child presents with Type 3 over-focused ADD, treatment plans will differ and will be on L-tryptophan and 5-HTP. If presenting with Type 4, Temporal Lobe ADD treatment will focus on GABA first. Further treatment plans for ADHD involves an allergy (oligoantigenic) diet, illumination of stimulants, for example, sugar, and or caffeine. (Especially when on Ritalin) When paired with Cognitive behavioural therapy, it's been shown to have significant advantages in the treatment of ADHD. Full consultations can be made at Health Kick Mandarah: Wednesday and Thursday's. For times and dates in the City (Claremont), My Health Food Store, PM directly. Landie. 14.01.2022 October is breast cancer awareness month. When last did you do a breast examination????? I URGE you to take 15 min today for yourself and do it. 15 min that can save your life!!!... Factors that are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer include: BEING FEMALE. Women are much more likely than men are to develop breast cancer. AGE. Your risk of breast cancer increases as you age. A personal history of breast conditions. If you've had a breast biopsy that found lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) or atypical hyperplasia of the breast, you have an increased risk of breast cancer. A personal history of breast cancer. If you've had breast cancer in one breast, you have an increased risk of developing cancer in the other breast. A family history of breast cancer. If your mother, sister or daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer, particularly at a young age, your risk of breast cancer is increased. Still, the majority of people diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. Inherited genes that increase cancer risk. Specific gene mutations that increase the risk of breast cancer can be passed from parents to children. The most well-known gene mutations are referred to as BRCA1 and BRCA2. These genes can significantly increase your risk of breast cancer and other cancers, but they don't make cancer inevitable. Radiation exposure. If you received radiation treatments to your chest as a child or young adult, your risk of breast cancer is increased. Obesity. Being obese increases your risk of breast cancer. Beginning your period at a younger age. Beginning your period before age 12 increases your risk of breast cancer. Beginning menopause at an older age. If you began menopause at an older age, you're more likely to develop breast cancer. Having your first child at an older age. Women who give birth to their first child after age 30 may have an increased risk of breast cancer. Having never been pregnant. Women who have never been pregnant have a greater risk of breast cancer than do women who have had one or more pregnancies. Postmenopausal hormone therapy. Women who take hormone therapy medications that combine estrogen and progesterone to treat the signs and symptoms of menopause have an increased risk of breast cancer. The risk of breast cancer decreases when women stop taking these medications. Drinking alcohol. Drinking alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer. In Australia, even with a fully implemented mammographic screening program, more than half of breast cancers are diagnosed after investigation of a breast change found by the woman or by her doctor. When breast cancer is detected early and is in the localised stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. DO IT TODAY! All my love Xxxx

12.01.2022 #psychology #anxietyproblems Ten tips to enhance your life, health and relationships. 1. Do not starve your relationships with black and white; all or nothing attitudesFoster meaningful relationships. Give your time and love and be open to receive love.... 2. Allow people to enter and leave your lifewe not all on the same journey. Let go when needed, gracefully. 3. Learn to be a good listener. (I work hard on this one). Don't talk over somebody. Learn to read peoples behaviour. Place yourself in their shoes) 4. Try to avoid aggressive or passive behaviour. Both will not help the situation. You are allowed to be assertive and set boundaries with people who tend to act disrespectfully, manipulative and or rude. Yes, that includes family also. 5. Love your food. Eat for health and nutrition. Exercise; walk on average 30/45 min each day. Get enough sleep. 6. Deal with excessive stress in your life. We can't always avoid it, but we can manage it. Learn your triggers and how to deal with them. 7. Take time to connect. Disconnect more often from social media and connect with people around you. Have real conversations again. On the train or bus, with the person in front of you in the grocery store. Reach out. 8. Accept those things over which you have no control. Save your energy for the things that matter. 9. Accept yourself. You are human and are allowed to make mistakes. So is everyone else around you. 10. Happiness, Health, Relationships, all take work and effort. You reap what you sow! Lastly, just breath and enjoy the moment. Xx All my love Landie Xx #anxietyawareness #depressionawareness #healthpsychology

08.01.2022 How faulty genes and a potential time bomb in my brain made me obsessed with the Mediterranean diet. Dementia runs in our family (risk factor gene). An MRI scan 5 years ago, revealed that I exhibit Microvascular ischemic changes, which can either get worse or not progress at all. (Both factors pushing me into a high-risk category) The Mediterranean Diet Improves Cognition, Memory and Brain Volume.... Research shows a healthy eating pattern such as the Mediterranean diet offers a protective effect on brain health and is correlated with a decreased rate of cognitive decline and a lower risk of cognitive impairment. PREDIMED, a study conducted in Spain, tested the ability of a Mediterranean-style eating program to prevent heart attacks, strokes, and diabetesin people with risk factors like smoking, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol. (PREDIMED is short for the Spanish name of the trial, Prevención con Dieta Mediterránea, which means "prevention with a Mediterranean diet.") After about five years, people on the Mediterranean diets were up to 30% less likely to have heart attacks and strokes or die from heart-related causes, compared with those in the reduced-fat diet group. In absolute numbers, that means 4% of people in the Mediterranean diet group had heart attacks, or strokes, or died from heart-related causes, compared with 5.6% in the reduced-fat diet group. 04.01.2022 With school holidays coming up, this is an excellent opportunity to teach your children the benefits of Vitamin C and how to make Vit C pills (lollies) (They taste amazing too!) What you will need: buy at any health shop 1 tablespoon Acerola (cherry) powder... 1 tablespoon rosehip powder 1 tablespoon Amla powder(Indian gooseberry) Raw honey Orange peel powder Mix all the herbs, breaking up any clumps. Slightly warm ( low heat) the honey and pour it into the powdered mix. I don't bother to measure how much honey I use. I just pour it into the mixture a tiny bit at a time till the constancy hold the little balls together. Once the powder is mixed with honey, form into small, pea-sized ballscoat in orange powder. The recipe makes around 45 pea-sized balls. Store in an airtight container. Use 1-3 per day. * Rosehip contains more Vitamin C per gram than oranges. * Acerola or cherries are packed with vitamin C, B and bioflavonoids. You are looking at around 1 700 mg of Vitamin C in 100g of Acerola fruit. * Amla (Indian Gooseberry), is a celebrated herb with incredibly high amounts of Vitamin C. Lots of love Landie #healthpsychology #nutrition #vitaminc #naturalmedicine #healthylifestyle

03.01.2022 Did you know that patients with higher magnesium levels also have healthy amounts of serotonin in the cerebrospinal fluid? Some of the highest levels of magnesium in the body are found in the central nervous system, with studies dating back to the 1920s showing how crucial magnesium is for a balanced brain It’s known, for example, that magnesium interacts with GABA receptors, supporting the calming actions of this neurotransmitter.... Magnesium also keeps glutamatean excitatory neurotransmitterwithin healthy limits. The synthesis of dopamine requires magnesium. It also works alongside melatonina hormone your body produces naturallyto control your body clock and sleep-wake cycles. I highly recommend Muscleze Night for sleeplessness and restlessness. 03.01.2022 Drugs vs Natural?? Osteoarthritis is characterised by the breakdown of cartilage. Degeneration, which results in pain, inflammation, deformity and limitation of the cartilage is the hallmark feature of osteoarthritis.... The advantages of primary drugs such as NSAIDs and or anti-inflammatory drugs such as naproxen is that symptom relief occurs faster than natural products. HOWEVER, it's a known fact that they carry a significant risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, just to name one. Glucosamine sulfate appears to address one of the underlying factors that cause osteoarthritis: the reduced manufacture of cartilage compounds. By getting to the root of the problem, not just the symptom, studies have shown that it can increase the rate of cartilage formation, improve the health of cartilage and reduce symptoms, including pain. In head to head comparison studies with NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, piroxicam and celecoxib, glucosamine has been shown to provide comparable or greater benefit with fewer significant side effects. Remember - Prevention is best! Better choices, better outcomes Landie B ----------------@---------- Studies: Gruyere O, Honore A, Ethgen O, et al. "Correlation between radiographic severity of knee osteoarthritis and future disease progression." Results from a 3-year prospective, placebo-controlled study evaluating the effect of glucosamine sulfate. Osteoarthritis and Cartilage 2003;1:1-5 Health is not a one size fits all; this medication might not be right for you. Always consult with your health care professional.

01.01.2022 Do you know what Vitamin get depleted first when you stress? Cortisol, our fight and flight hormone can quickly deplete Vitamin C. Vitamin C plays a role in collagen, carnitine, hormones especially Tyrosine, and other amino acid formations.... It is essential for bone and blood vessel health and wound healing and facilitates recovery from burns. Vitamin C is also an antioxidant, supports immune function, and facilitates the absorption of iron. Depletion of Vit C can leave you with: Unexplained weight gain Rough, bumpy skin (chicken skin on upper arms, thighs and buttocks) Broken capillaries Red spots or vertical lines on nails Dry, damaged skin Bruising Painful swollen joints Bleeding gums Poor immunity Persistent low iron anemia Chronic inflammation Depression Poor memory and lethargic Vitamin C is a stress buster vitamin cofactor and support for adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla and acts as a buffer for our adrenals. I recommend 1000mg a day in healthy individuals( remember Vit C is a water-soluble vit, your body can't make it) Adrenal fatigue or times of increased stress 2000-4000mg a day Individuals with hemochromatosis should avoid Vit C. Remember, health is NEVER a one size fits all. Better choices Better outcomes Landie @My Health Lady Xx #healthpsychology #stressrelief
