20.01.2022 As some of you now know, RYAN & FAMILY ARE IN A CRISIS please read below for details and share as much as possible until we find the help we need. (BITS OF THIS... POST HAVE BEEN COPIED AND PASTED FROM BOTH FACEBOOK PAGES/POSTS AND EMAILS SO PLEASE EXCUSE US IF IT READS ALL ABOUT THE PLACE, THANK YOU.) In Ryans/our current house (a rental property) Ryan has no access to a bathroom or front and back door (this property has a stair well at both front and back meaning we have to carry him out the door to get to the car for appointments or outings) last year in April we asked the owner/landlord for permission to add a ramp and renovate the bathroom into a wet room... he said no to a ramp and bathroom renovation he also said no to a ceiling hoist being installed and we understand that it was and is his right to do so, so we were looking for new accommodation that could be suitably upgraded to meet Ryan's needs in the Maroondah/ Knox area (Victoria) (as most of his support workers and medical staff are based in croydon and the eastern suburbs) without any luck of finding a suitable property with a long term lease. but now the owner has Not only said NO he has given us an eviction notice and we now need to vacate in 7 weeks time,,, leaving us no time to find a suitable property, so we tried public housing, local Mp's and many other avenues listed with results so far below We have spoken to all relevant public housing, low income housing and disability housing services, including ALL homeless support agencies and our local MP and have been told we are now on number 1 priority for public housing but they currently do not have anything available that could be suitably modified for Ryan's complex needs but are very happy to help in the future when something becomes available... Homeless crisis centre's including Harrison, wesleys hanover and more, and they have had to reluctantly decline helping as their current properties are unsuitable for Ryan's needs and cannot be upgraded in time...Low income and disability housing are not taking applications this year as they are full to capacity... So far A rental property is not available for such a long term lease (5-10yrs) and/or available to renovate to meet the needs Ryan will require (and some places cannot even get a building permit to be aloud to do the works on the property for one reason or another...) We are in need of a property of 3 or more bedrooms that would suit a renovation with the following:- Bathroom to be turned into a wet-room Ceiling hoist installed Doorways and hallways widened Wheelchair ramp or flat access to back and/or front door Carport or garage so he can be put into his car without getting wet or sunburned (he is a red head with very fair skin and has trouble regualting his temperature. Aircon and heating to regulate temperatures. in the areas of Maroondah or knox or very close by Max $300 per week Our daughter Sarah 13 also has a disability and attends a special developmental school We are calling upon the community for help as we are in a crisis here Also Ryan is due to have surgery in the next few weeks-months (having his tonsils removed in the hope it will clear his airways for better breathing control) We are having a story done by the leader news paper this week and have tried to contact other media including the project and A current affair but so far no response Please share and help. 12.01.2022 The story behind the vehicle fit for our KING... As you all know we have been tirelessly fundraising for over a year and asking for everyone to help spread the ...word... A few weeks ago our call for help landed on the desk of Mr Keith Kite. A mobility vehicle modification specialist from Queensland. Keith Kite had built this vehicle over four years ago as a prototype mobility vehicle with a shorter wheel base, that would give the mobility vehicle the look and feel of the average family car. The prototype is a one of a kind as it never made it to market, so Keith Kite decided to find a needy family to donate it to. After checking out Ryan's website & Social media pages he and his wife felt Ryan was a very deserving person and surprised us with the vehicle delivery on Friday. All money raised from our fundraisers are going towards the on road costs incl' roadworthy, rego, insurance, maintenance and of course Mr ATO (tax) needs his cut too. The new personalised number plate have a special meaning behind it too. The Aussie flag background to represent traveling (we can take him all over now) Ryan's name and the letters KM has 3 meanings- 1.K&M Kite donated the vehicle. 2. KM's as we intend to drive him as many Kilometres as he wants around our beautiful country, to let him explore the outside world (he's only ever been to school and hospital besides home) 3. KM for Keith (Daddy) Michelle (step Mumma) ... We also think it's a little bit spooky that the man responsible for Ryan (his Daddy) and the man responsible for this amazing act of kindness (the man that imagined & built this car) are both named KEITH. 06.01.2022 Ryan is off to hospital for a few days, he's having Botox tomorrow and full reviews from all his medical teams (Respiratory, Neurology, Palliative care, Paediat...ric Rehab, O.T, Physiotherapy and a few other little procedures and fittings) hopefully this will help him with his tight muscle tone and reduce pain. Plus if the reviews go well and all the teams agree... he will likely be removed from the palliative care critical list!!! As he seems to Back to his version of normal routines and health.
