25.01.2022 Hey everyone, hope you have recovered from the long week-end. This weeks window features: 1970s striped wool blend suit and mustard chiffon blouse; a purple wool crepe, fully lined shirtwaist style dress with permanent pleat skirt; 1980s red, white & black double-breasted, lined jacket, a red "Pussy-cat bow" blouse and a black straight skirt. Cheers, Gail:)

25.01.2022 This weeks window features garments that are suitable for our mild winter. The purple, paisley, long-sleeve shift is home-sewn and dates to the late 1960s. The red jacket and black skirt combo consists of a reproduction 1950s straight skirt, new with tags by Tatyana and a red wool jacket with black faux fur trim. The jacket is Australian made and dates to 1980s. The last outfit is a USA, import dating to the late 1950s or early1960s. It ia a lightweight wool, unlined jacket and shift with self-belt. I welcome inquiries about these and any other of my items that you may seen have on facebook. I am looking into the feasibility of holding another "Retail Event" later this month. Cheers, Gail:)

25.01.2022 This weeks window features garments from the 50s, 70s and 80s. Ill start with the 1950s first: a genuine 50s gathered skirt, it is approx size12/14 and is just below knee length. The cute little blouse is late 50s-early 60s. However, it is the vintage/1950s olive green trench coat that I think is the most interesting. Unlike most trench coats that are basically "A" shape and cinched at the waist with a belt, this coat is designed specifically to accommodate the bulk of a full skirt with petticoats underneath. There is a definite bodice to this coat and a carefully defined waist. It is size 10/12 but remember how small the waist and bodice on most 1950s garments were, due the foundation garments they wore. POA. Cheers, Gail:)

24.01.2022 Hi Folks, only two sleeps til Saturday, 10/10/20 when My Steamer Trunk vintage clothing and accessory shop will open for the morning. On the the three previous pop-ups we have had a great day ( first time), pouring rain ( second time) and a dust storm (third time). I'm not sure if I'll watch the weather reports tonight or if I should just wait for Mother Nature's surprise. I have switched out the winter gear and replaced it with Spring and Summer items. I will also be featuring some 'fresh' acquisitions and some lovely vintage bed-jackets, negligees and peignoirs. Hope you are able to make it to the 'Pop-up" and remember that we will still be complying with social distancing and hand cleansing. Take care and stay safe. Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Cheers, Gail :)

24.01.2022 Have you seen the new website? Check out the blog posts on the Home Page. Cheers, Gail :)

23.01.2022 Looking forward to tomorrows Event. There will be public health precautions at My Steamer Trunk tomorrow: hand sanitizer will be available and I ask that you sanitise your hands before and after handling the stock. As many of you will be aware, the interior of the shop is very small and to abide by social distancing requirements, only three customers at a time will be able to be inside the shop. The weather is likely to be a little crisp tomorrow morning but dont worry, I have quite an assortment of very warm and attractive coats, jackets and knitwear in stock. Cheers, Gail :)

22.01.2022 Well, it wont be long now. We are hopeful of having the website live tomorrow morning. Check back this arvo for a link. Ive decided to stick with the cuteness factor for this post. Okay, Ill admit it. I love Labs and all creatures great and small. Hope you like them too. Cheers, Gail:)

22.01.2022 Welcome Winter! No waiting for the Ekka westerlies this year. Here it is 3rd June and weve had two full days of overcoat weather. It just so happens that I have a number of trenches and overcoats looking for a human to keep warm. This "Weeks Window" features just three of those available. POA. Details on the individual coats next post Cheers, Gail:)

22.01.2022 From left to right, the coats in "This Weeks Window" are: 1. an original Lew & Charney creation, in a rough textured woolen fabric from the 1960s; 2. a Ralex rain/trench coat from the late 60s - early 70s; 3. a 1960s military inspired wool gabardine coat designed by Rodmil. More specifics, next post. Cheers, Gail :)

22.01.2022 A reminder about my event this coming Saturday, 20June, 9:30am 1pm at my shop and on the footpath at 220A Bay Tce. While this event will open my shop to the public for the first time this year, it will also be an opportunity to introduce you all to my winter collection of coats, jackets, suits and accessories. Most of the stock available will be at its usual price but there will also be clearance clothes and accessories at sale prices from $10 - $25. The pic shows the clearance rack being prepared. See you Saturday. Cheers, Gail

21.01.2022 I would have been so excited to see these two, leaving a shop I regularly visited ! I'm easily star-struck.

20.01.2022 This weeks window features garments from the late 70s to the early 80s. The dark green leather jacket and wool midi skirt are typical of what was worn as work-wear in that era. The turquoise wool suit is by Anthea Crawford and has some interesting angles on the front opening. The ankle length, black coat-dress has faux fur buttons. Remember that the shop is OPEN this Saturday 22nd August, 9:30am -1pm. Hope you have had a chance to visit my website -http://mysteamertrunk.com.au/ Cheers, Gail :)

20.01.2022 We are up to the 1980s with this third and final item of "This Weeks Window". The featured 1980 cream, wool two suit is by Anthea Crawford. The skirt and jacket are both fully lined. Like many jackets of the period, this jacket features an asymmetrical front opening. The jacket opening veers across to the the left shoulder where it transforms into a pleated shawl draping over the back of the jacket. This is a beautifully tailored, quality high-end garment. POA. Cheers, Gail:)

19.01.2022 Website is live. Address is www.mysteamertrunk.com.au Enjoy checking it out.

19.01.2022 If you are looking to expand your knowledge of shoe styles and manufacturers in Australia during the C20th, might I suggest The Paragon Shoe Collection. This collection which is one of the many collections held by the NGV, comprises 88 objects, largely shoes, as well as advertising and point-of-sale material. The collection dates from circa 1916 to circa 1993. Pic shows: pair of shoes in orange leather Rice ONeill for Paragon;Source:Museums Victoria; Copyright Museums Vic. Cheers, Gail :)

18.01.2022 Who remembers visits from the Avon lady?! This ad from the 1960s features everyday women’s fashions! Very Jackie Kennedy!

16.01.2022 How cute are these knit dresses that could be made from patterns in the early 1970s?!

13.01.2022 This ball is boring. I want to go shopping at My Steamer Trunk for chewable things like gloves or shoes. Its so many sleeps until My Steamer Trunk is open on 25July, between 9:30am and 1pm. Hope to see you there.

13.01.2022 I dont know about the rest of you, but I am thoroughly enjoying this lovely cold weather. I know that those of you who arent Tropicals would laugh at my description of the weather as cold. But you must remember that we have such a short period in which to get rugged up and put on more than a sunfrock and sandals that anything below 25C is cool and under 20C is COLD. I will have my shop open for business, on Saturday, 25 July, from 9:30am til 1:30pm. Social distancing an...d hand sanitation requirements will be observed. I was so impressed with the way everyone followed these rules last time. Winter garments will be the focus (pics below) again this time but I have some recently acquired bags, shoes and jewellery that will be making their first appearance. Hope to see you at the shop on 25 July but remember that if you would like to visit at other times, just text or phone me on 0432809632 to make an appointment. Cheers, Gail See more

13.01.2022 Hi There, are you looking for gloves to complete that special outfit? Do you need above the elbow "Opera" gloves, mid-forearm length "bracelet gloves' or gloves for a daytime occasion - "wristlet" or "shortie" gloves? Chances are I can help and at a reasonable price too. There are a few examples in this post. More pics of gloves can be found in the photos on this page. Cheers, Gail:)

13.01.2022 Although the shop is closed, I intend to hold some retail events , based at the shop and the footpath outside. These events will focus on clothing attuned to the season. The first of these events will be held on Saturday 20 June. I hope you can make it. Cheers, Gail :)

12.01.2022 This weeks window will start with this magnificent 1970s, 100% wool, three-piece ladys knit suit. The A line skirt is plain orange with a side zip; while the cream, sleeveless top with plain orange piping to armholes and neck has a zip at the neck at the back to ensure that putting it is easy and will not damage ones hairdo at all. The orange and white stripe jacket is asymmetrical at the front opening, with a faux pocket and piping. The garment is a 1970s small which would be approx. a modern 8 or 10. P.O.A. Cheers, Gail :)

12.01.2022 It is mid-week, so here is brain teaser to fill in the time as we glide to the weekend. Q1.What is the overall purpose of these two set of objects? Q2 What are the objects that share the same function in each set? Q3 What date would you place on each set? Ill give you the answers on the weekend; if no one has guessed them before. Cheers :) Gail

11.01.2022 Its the first week of Spring, hence the linen suit, the floaty, chiffon dress and the fabulous, wattle gold Poodle Skirt. The linen suit is a sleeveless shift with long sleeve coat. The chiffon dress is size small as is the linen suit. Th Poodle Skirt and petticoat are home sewn and are one size fits all as they have elasticized waists. These items, save the Princess Highway cardigan will be on Etsy this week. Cheers, Gail

11.01.2022 This Week's Window feature some items that you've not seen before. A mix and match outfit comprising a silk pair of slacks, a silk fastened in the front blouse and a fully lined satin jacket. This outfit is suited to a range of occasions. The other outfit takes advantage of the trans-seasonal capabilities of corduroy. The two piece home-sewn suit has a gathered skirt with full side length button fastening and a large, colourful floral applique. The suit-top pulls straight over the head with an extended shoulder line but no sleeves. Both outfits are in the shop now. For more details contact me through facebook. Cheers, Gail :)

11.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing you at the shop today 9:30am - 1pm. Sorry, I havent been posting but my Telstra internet died on Wednesday 29 August and despite contacting Telstra by their messaging service four times since then, Im yet to receive a reply from them Hope to get this sorted soon. 08.01.2022 Hi, Fans of Vintage Fashion! Its been a little while since my last post. Thank you to those intrepid shoppers who came out to my most recent, Saturday Opening, on a cold and rainy day. I hope that the weather will be a little kinder on the next Saturday Opening. Speaking of which, the next one is planned for: Saturday, 22nd August; 9:30am to 1pm. 220A Bay Tce, Wynnum. Here is this weeks window. The black, crepe dress with collar is a stunning garment from the 1980s. The yellow, heavily embroidered, lawn dress would be most suitable for change of season events. The 1970s black jersey, sheath with patterned bodice would be suitable for casual dining out, and parties. Cheers, Gail

07.01.2022 Working chronologically, here is the second item in this Weeks Window. This early 1970s coat-dress is by Positive Influence, an Aussie label of the time. The dress features the Middie length, popular at the time, where garment comes to mid-calf but often has a split or, as is the case with this garment, a fastening which opens to well above mid-thigh. The fabric in this garment is a polyester blend and the collar and cuffs are faux leopard print fur. The tan and black leather belt pictured is for sale separately. POA for both or either item. Cheers, Gail:)

07.01.2022 A big thank you to all of you who visited my Retail Event yesterday and those of you who were unable to attend but sent messages of support and good luck. I was a bit concerned how things would go but everything went so well. It was great to so many familiar faces, connect faces to names and just have some fun socialising over fashion. I would also like to thank everyone who came for adhering to the hand sanitising and social distancing requirements with such good humour. I am so pleased that you enjoyed yourselves. I am planning another one for about 4weeks time. Thanks again. Cheers, Gail :) PS Sally is pleased that its over. I was so busy she had to keep moving from place to place but what else can a dog do except keep an eye on her human? But she can rest now. Haha

07.01.2022 This week's window serves two purposes. The first is to show off some new summer stock. The second is to give you the dates and times that the shop will be open until December 2020. I may add some additional opening times for December, in response to demand. Date claimer for this coming Saturday, 31 October, 9:30am - 1pm, as the shop will be open. Don't forget that you can make an appointment for a personal viewing of the collection. Cheers, Gail :)

06.01.2022 Here are a few pics of some recently acquired items that will be in stock for Saturday. Don't forget, I'll be OPEN this coming Saturday, 14 November 9:30am til 1pm. Cheers, Gail :)

04.01.2022 Pretty pastels!! Photo by the great Cecil Beaton. 1951

04.01.2022 These lovely items are currently listed in My Steamer Trunks recently opened Etsy shop. My website, which will be live by the end of this week, features a direct link to my Etsy shop, under the heading, "Shop the Store". Items are regularly added to the Etsy shop. Cheers, Gail :)

04.01.2022 Watch this space! Construction of new web site nearly complete! More info regarding launch date, soon. Cheers, Gail :) This pic was selected for its cuteness rating only. :)

03.01.2022 Hi folks, it's only two days until My Steamer Trunk at 220A Bay Tce will be open from 9:30am until 1:00pm. I have a number of vintage summer dresses newly arrived in the shop such as the pink lace in the pic, there are a couple of other colours too. Hell Bunny Vixen, 100% cotton, halter-neck sun frocks, in broken sizing are available at a very reduced price, as these are the last few of these I have in stock. As well as a many newly arrived vintage items, there is also a $25.00 and under rack. Hope to see you on Saturday 31/10/20 and that's Halloween Day. I do have some skirts and tops with a sugar skulls motif on the fabric. If you are looking for a Halloween outfit for a party, they could be the thing for you. Cheers, Gail :)

02.01.2022 Here are the last two items in this weeks window. The dark green, 1940s style, 3/4 sleeve, crepe dress is a new garment made using a vintage pattern. It is about a modern size 12. The overcoat is from the 1980s. It is fully lined with two side pockets, dry clean only. Size12. Cheers, Gail:)

02.01.2022 Although the synthetic fabric, rayon had been available for both commercial and domestic use prior to WW2, it was the Post-War period that was noted for the introduction of a wide range of wonder yarns and fabrics. These synthetics were noted for their easy care, drip-dry, machine washable and long wearing qualities. One such product was Orlon which was introduced as a knitting and crochet yarn in the early 1950s. These pics are from a 1954 pattern book by Chadwicks Yarns, which survives today as Red Heart. I think the crocheted hat and clutch are amazing; while the detachable collars show that the concepts of thrift and make do ingrained by the Great Depression and WW2 still lingered in the prosperous fifties.

02.01.2022 Remember this Saturday, 25 July, My Steamer Trunk is holding another Vintage Event at 220A Bay Tce, Wynnum from 9:30am -1pm. Cheers,
