25.01.2022 4 Things you should know when brushing your pet's teeth! Start from an early age. You can start brushing your puppy/kitten's teeth at 8 weeks. It's the best shot at success. Get your furbaby used to you handling his mouth BEFORE you ever start brushing. ... A good idea is to dip your finger in something he likes, such as bone broth, then rub your finger on his gums. Have realistic expectations. Pet's teeth brushing takes time and patience. When you first start out, youll only be brushing a few teeth for a few seconds a day, and then gradually you'll work your way up over time. Stay calm and praise your pet. Pawsitive reinforcement is a must because at the end of the day, it's not a competition. We love you Mello See more

18.01.2022 What is the difference between microchipping your pet and registering your pet? We get this question ALL the time! There is nothing worse than leaving the front door open for two minutes and your furbaby runs off. My heart goes out to all the owners that have been through this because it honestly is the worse feeling ... Microchipping is ultimately the most effective way to reunite owners with their pets as well as helping shelters return animals to their rightful owners more quickly to avoid overcrowding. Vets implant this tiny chip that will last the pet's lifetime Registering your pet with the council is compulsory but the registration fee does go back into building the community such as building dog parks, pet events and incentive schemes and education programs Remember, you must do BOTH for your furbaby! 08.01.2022 How often should I brush my dogs teeth? Well fun fact, plaque can harden into tartar within approximately 48-72 hours! So daily is ideal, but if not 3-4 times a week is a must! But if you are having trouble brushing your pet's teeth, then try Hexarinse! It's a solution where you place onto a cotton pad and use it like a dental wipe! Winning!

08.01.2022 Do you have a dog that suffers from sensitive gut or gets diarrhoea easily? Sometimes an upset stomach isnt as straightforward as it seems . Meet the Super Vet Medicine Specialist Dr Karina Graham @vsos_vets as we get her expertise on IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). Some key points from todays live: Just because upset stomachs are common, doesnt make it a minor issue Vomiting/Diarrhoe is actually quite a non specific sign and isnt always a gut problem! ... IBD is more common than you think, especially if you are a French Bulldog, Cavoodle and Boxer owner! Diagnosis of IBD is tricky as it is achieved by biopsy of the gut through a procedure called endoscopy and colonoscopy, and excluding all other diseases! Management of IBD ranges and it doesnt mean that your pet will be on lifelong medication! Remember to always chat to your vet and discuss any concerns that you may have if your dog suffers from gut issues. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments! Happy Fri-yay! 02.01.2022 Meet Blakey! Blakey's paw daddies woke up one day and found a big pool of light pink discharge all around his bed! His paw-rents rushed him to us and was seen by Dr Adrian. Upon examination, Dr Adrian suspected a possible upper respiratory tract infection or a foreign body! As Blakey was still happy in consult he was trialed on some medications, but that did not improve his condition.. Under Dr Adrian's advice, we proceeded with a full thorough work up which includ...ed full bloods and rhinoscopy (this is where a special camera goes up the nostrils to see what is inside) We had the wonderful team Dr Karina Graham from @vsos_vets who we work closely with, to perform the rhinoscopy The biopsy was sent off to further evaluate what was causing little Blakey's nasal discharge AND.. The biopsy results came back as Blakey suffering from a condition known as "Lymphoplasmacytic Rhinitis" - a specific form of chronic rhinitis in dogs! No evidence of infection was found in Blakey's case! The cause of this disease is unknown (which makes it very frustrating to treat and control), with up to 40% of cases present with having discharge in only one side of the nostril. Blakey was sent home with some medications to help treat and manage this condition and we are happy to report that he is doing very well!! Yay for Blakey!! See more

01.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS! BALMAIN is another hotspot for Leptospirosis. Over the week we found out a dog in NEWTOWN has passed due to Leptospirosis, then later in the week one was diagnosed in Balmain!... WE CANNOT PRESS UPON YOU ENOUGH HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO VACCINATE YOUR POOCHES! Especially if you live within a 5km radius of the Sydney CBD area and Balmain. What is Leptospirosis? According to the University of Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney, Leptospirosis is a potentially fatal bacterial infection that can cause acute kidney failure and liver disease in dogs. Dogs can become infected by contact with urine from rats or indirectly via contaminated water or soil. They can also become infected by hunting and eating rats. Prevention of leptospirosis is achieved by limiting contact to sources of infection and vaccination. Until recently clinical leptospirosis has only rarely been reported in Sydney. Therefore, historically, dogs have not been routinely vaccinated against this disease. Clinical signs can initially be very vague such as lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea. Importantly, leptospirosis is a zoonosis which means that humans can get infected as well, for example through contact with rat urine or urine of infected dogs, through skin wounds or through mucus membranes (eg in the mouth). We have not seen any vaccinated dogs that have contracted this disease. PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD to all our furry friends
