24.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and to support those around us. RUOK? is a suicide prevention charity, reminding people that having meaningful conversations can help someone who might be struggling or feeling helpless, hopeless or afraid. Today, September 10 is a day set aside to support RUOK? and a time for us all to check in with our friends, family and loved ones and ask "Are y...ou ok?" We encourage everyone today to reach out to those you know and check in. We're all in this together so let's all look out for each other and check in with our mates, family and loved ones and ask RUOK?

24.01.2022 WAKE TIME PER AGE As your little one grows and develops, it can be tough keeping up with their sleep schedules and needs. Figuring out how long your child can stay awake before needing to sleep is just another one of those tricky additions for parents to wrap their head around. Getting the timing of your child’s sleep right can be the difference between having your little one drift off quickly, or struggle for another hour of battling sleep As I have covered before, sle...ep is a critical part of any child’s development process, and making sure they develop healthy sleeping and napping patterns is needed to help them grow and develop. Not to mention that Mama needs a break in the day too! Teaching your little one to sleep well is needed for the whole family However, before we get into figuring out wake times, understanding some key aspects of your little one’s sleep is important. Why are naps needed Incorporating solid and consistent nap times are important for your child’s sleep schedule. It is a common myth that skipping naps will help a child sleep better during the night. In fact, the opposite is true. Skipping naps, or having poor quality naps, result in a child that’s: Over-tired; Cranky And most importantly, prone to night waking. So, why does this happenThe science behind it is that when your child naps, their brain processes all of the physical and mental inputs they received while they were awake. Tissue regeneration and growth happens while we sleep, so ensuring your child is receiving the approximate amount of naps for their age aids in their development and well-being. 17.01.2022 Wake a sleeping baby? Are you mad?! Imagine that you are back in your early 20’s? You’ve been out all night, raving on the dancefloor and come home at sparrow fart (tweet tweet). What do you do? Probably sleep for as long as you need right? Can you guess what happens if your little one decides to sleep all day? You guessed it partying ALL.NIGHT.LONG (B.Y.O.). ... If you are in the throws of multiple wake-ups at night, you might feel like you’ve been out partying all night, but unfortunately, with a new bundle of love in the house, you don’t have the luxury of sleeping it off anymore. Yawn! Why is it important to wake your little one from long stretches in the daytime? To feed more frequently (more day feeds can help your little one NOT want to feed (and party) all night; If you are breastfeeding, frequent feedings will help you establish your milk supply; Signals to be more active in the day = more sound sleep at night. With repetition, this will help shift those long stretches of sleep to nighttime (yay!). What can you do? Limit naps to 2 2.5 hours during the day. Encourage baby to stay awake for a bit after each nap. Sleep, sunshine & Vitamin D! Get some sun! Ensuring your baby is protected from the direct glare of the sun, try to get out of the house daily for some fresh air and Vitamin D (catching some sun throughout the day also keeps our serotonin levels higher and keep our moodiness in check (especially when we’re running on broken sleep). Please note: It’s not a problem until it’s a problem for YOUR family! Every baby and family are different. If this works for you, I’m glad to share my experience. If this isn’t something that will work for your family, I completely understand that as well. Some families allow their baby to sleep all day and it doesn’t seem to affect nighttime sleep (if that works for you, amazing!) However, if you are finding you have a little disco happening in the cot, then it might be time to start making some changes.

16.01.2022 WHAT COMMITMENT IS NEEDED FROM MY END? I am committed to improving your baby’s sleeping routine, however, success can only be achieved if you are equally committed as well. Your baby will be learning new ways of going to sleep and learning new habits takes time, patience, commitment and perseverance. In order to achieve the best results possible, it is highly recommended that you avoid planning any holidays or nights away from home for two to three weeks during the implementation of the new sleep plan to maintain consistency in your baby’s environment

10.01.2022 Transitioning from 3 Naps to 2 As your little one changes and grows, so will their napping schedule. So, when is the right time to drop that third nap? How can it be done in a way that does not leave your child overtired?

Our little one was 6mo old when we reached out to Jen. I was at my breakpoint with sleep deprivation, I felt like my time and energy was just consumed on putting my baby to sleep for her day naps and night sleep. Being a first time mum I had no clue it was going to be this hard I just knew that the joy of parenthood was being robbed from me due to exhaustion. My baby was rocked, nursed, used a dummy to sleep and co slept with us AND she still woke up every 1-2hrs every night I was getting 4-5hrs total off broken sleep. I knew to be a better mum, wife, friend and person I needed to get professional help. Jen has been amazing!!! She has helped us remove ALL sleep association - my baby now sleeps in her own room in her cot, no more nursing to sleep, rocking & dummy. She now sleeps from 7pm-6am straight and if she does wake up she self settles back to sleep!! I still can’t believe my baby has learnt to self settle to sleep in just ONE week and I’m finally getting good solid sleep Jen was with me every step of the way, she has personally tailored a sleep program that suits me and my baby. I loved that if I had any queries she was there to help. Thanks soo much Jen xxx

03.01.2022 Blue or Red Light for Baby’s Sleep? There’s an ever-evolving list of things to consider when setting up your baby’s bedroom, and at the top of it is light (literally!). Making sure your baby’s room is dark enough, minimising light in the lead-up to bedtime, using the right lamps and nightlights they are all things parents have to keep in mind. One of the questions parents ask themselves when figuring this out is; which colour light is the best for sleep, blue or red? Today, I’ll be explaining the difference between them, and which is better for your baby’s sleep.
