25.01.2022 WORK STARTS TO STABILISE JENOLAN CAVES ROAD A large slope in Hampton will be future-proofed with mesh, bolts and concrete to prevent heavy rainfall and wet conditions causing further landslips on Jenolan Caves Road. Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said stabilisation work would permanently secure 500 metres of the slope across an area where there were significant landslips on to Jenolan Caves Road after heavy rainfall and winter weather during August. ... This work will help reduce the risk of this happening again, ensuring the best possible safety on our regional roads, and minimising disruption to the community and visitors to the area, Mr Toole said. A combination of vegetation control, installation of rock fall protection mesh, rock bolts and shotcrete, which is suitable for damp environments like in Hampton, will be used to secure the slope. Since the incident, for the safety of all motorists, the lane of traffic closest to the slope has been closed and under traffic management and we thank the community for its patience. On top of delivering a safer and more reliable road, the project will provide employment for 25 people, including local contractors, at a time when jobs in the region matter most. Work started yesterday and will be carried out until Friday, 18 December, and from Monday, 11 January to Friday, 23 April next year. There will be a break over the Christmas period between Saturday, 19 December and Sunday, 10 January, and if deemed safe, both lanes may open to motorists. Work will be carried out from 7am to 5pm on weekdays, and occasional Saturdays from 8am to 1pm, as needed, weather permitting. One lane will remain open for the duration of the project, with a reduced speed limit of 40km/h and stop/slow in place.

09.01.2022 Simple steps for a safer bushfire and storm season Energy distribution business Endeavour Energy has said the Summer 2019 / 2020 bushfires are an important reminder that people should be taking steps now to protect themselves and their electricity supply. Much of Endeavour Energy’s network area, which includes the Lithgow LGA is bushfire and storm prone. These severe weather events, which are much more common in summer, have the potential to impact lives, livelihoods and disr...upt the delivery of safe and reliable power. CEO Guy Chalkley, said Endeavour Energy works all year round to fortify its network ahead of summer but that people can have a big effect themselves when it comes to protecting themselves, their community, and their power supply. We’ve just launched our Simple Steps for a Safer Summer campaign, which gives our customers practical tips for a safer bushfire and storm season, he said. Good examples are for people to secure loose outdoor items like trampolines and check their trees are pruned so they don’t blow into powerlines in strong winds and cause major outages. These are simple tips, but they could mean the difference between you helping to keep the power on in tough weather conditions or causing a blackout for thousands of homes. Mr Chalkley encouraged everyone to visit Endeavourenergy.com.au to find more tips. Australian summers are the best in the world but 2019 / 2020 summer showed us just how dangerous the season can be. Just a few simple steps can have a big effect when it comes to protecting yourself, your community and your power supply this summer, he said.
