05.01.2022 Our Federal Member for Lyne, Dr. David Gillespie, dropped in to the new studios of Myall Coast Radio this week for a look see and a chat with volunteers. Located in the industrial area of Tea Gardens, the station has been transformed from an empty warehouse into a building housing 2 studios, office, kitchen and meeting area. While Myall Coast Radio can be heard 24/7 on 87.8FM - as well as live-streaming on your phone, tablet or computer - it's still in the 'soft-opening' stage as more presenters come-on-line. None of this would have been possible without seed funding from generous donors and Government and Council Grants. Dr Gillespie is also coming on board as a sponsor. If you'd like to become a sponsor and support the Myall Coast Radio.. email [email protected] or head to the website.

04.01.2022 Small Towns Big Hearts. Its been a tough season for the Tea Gardens Hawks Rugby League Football Club, with not a ball played due to Covid. But this weekend, it was all about looking forward, as the boys in 'red and black', were given the keys to a much needed bus.... Its all about 'Paying it Forward' said Garry 'Gold Chains' Mead who kindly donated the bus to the Hawks and in return, received the 'Number 30' jersey to wear on his back and a very big thankyou. The Hawks' old bus gave up the ghost this year, gone to wreckers heaven is how the boys put it, so this 22 seater, air conditioned bus will make a huge difference to getting players to away games next season. Garry 'Gold Chains' who runs, National Training Organisation, said, It's going to be good for the team and the town. And just like the Hawks, it was a team community effort to get the bus spick and span. Locals, Glen Henry did the signage, Jason Riley did some painting, Gary Sutton buffed the bus, Max Bowman got behind the wheel and Layne Bartley of Conquest Cleaning, cleaned the seats. It will be used by the Hawks Seniors, Juniors and Lady Hawks players, said Robert 'Dacka' Smith. The Hawks will be welcoming new players next year and are confident that, even with the new covid rules , it's going to be a great season. The Tea Gardens Hotel is the Hawks' major sponsor while the Hawks Nest Golf Club supports the Lady Hawks. The club has also applied for a $300,000 State Government Grant to upgrade the facilities at the Hawks Nest Oval. But there would be no Hawks without their volunteers and new supporters and game day helpers are always needed. Their AGM is on Thursday 10th December in the Tea Gardens Hotel's Dolphin Room at 6 pm. All are welcome. Photos: Garry 'Gold Chains' Mead & Robert 'Dacka' Smith, Hawks Nest Oval.
