24.01.2022 INMATE ART COMPETITION CELEBRATES NAIDOC Long Bay’s Boom Gate Gallery has unveiled 50 artworks at a NAIDOC art exhibition, after more than 200 inmates around th...e state put paintbrush to canvas for the competition. The artworks focus on this year’s NAIDOC theme Always Was, Always Will Be, which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for more than 65,000 years. The very first footprints in Australia belonged to Aboriginal people who have maintained ongoing spiritual and cultural connections to land and sea, Aboriginal Strategy and Policy Unit Senior Project Officer Jermaine Haymond says. In the spirit of NAIDOC being an inclusive event, the art competition has been open to all inmates both Indigenous and non-Indigenous with three female finalists and three male finalists chosen. The artworks were judged by Aboriginal artists Djon Mundine, Brook Andrew and Reko Rennie. The 2020 NAIDOC Art Competition Exhibition, organised by Corrective Services NSW’s Aboriginal Strategy and Policy Unit, will be displayed at the gallery until 23 July. National NAIDOC Week 2020 celebrations will be held from the 8-15 November after being rescheduled due to COVID-19 restrictions. #CSNSW #BoomGateGallery #AboriginalArt #LongBay #NAIDOC2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

09.01.2022 FOR YOUR INFORMATION

08.01.2022 'Social Justice Warrior; Pierre, the Birdman of Surry Hills' has finally been delivered to AGNSW as my 2020 painting entry for the Archibald. Although hopeful, sadly, I’m not expecting it to be hung.

08.01.2022 Nearly finished, ‘Remembering Corfu’, has fondly been called my ‘COVID’ painting, as it’s kept me challenged during this challenging time.

08.01.2022 Just received this picture from German, (pronounced Herman) our Chilean, Mungo Park, tour guide taken on Friday night at an exhibition of his photographs at the Balranald Art Gallery. It’s the first art gallery I’ve visited in over 3 months and it just happens to be in outback NSW. Go figure! The population here is only 1,800, the gallery has been operating for 40 years and is run by volunteers from a small historic Masonic Hall that has huge cracks in its walls and they have just received a $250,000 grant to build a creative workshop next door. WELL DONE I say.
