21.01.2022 Researchers identify link between decreased depressive symptoms, yoga and the neurotransmitter GABA The benefits of yoga have been widely documented by scientific research, but previously it was not clear as to how yoga exerts its physiologic effect. Now a new study from Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) proposes that yoga can increase levels of Gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA) in the short-term and completing one yoga class per week may maintain elevated GABA that c...Continue reading

19.01.2022 Excellent, excellent, excellent exercise!! Really very very good! The movement that my Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training graduate Nigel Mitchell is doing in this video is actually lengthening the Rectus Abdominis (Superficial Front Line Myofascial Meridian) while at the same time strengthening it in the fullest range of motion. This is an excellent thing to do.... And most people doing regular sit ups or crunches DONT do anything like it. Most people doing regular sit ups are already in a flexed position when they start the movement, then they just go into a more flexed movement. Thats a problem. Because repeatedly contracting the the Rectus Abdominis within that narrow range of motion causes the muscles to drop sarcomeres. What are sarcomeres? They are the basic unit of striated muscle tissue. And they help you to be fast, flexible, and strong. You dont want to be slow, and stiff, and weak. So whenever you are doing strengthening exercise you should always do that movement to the FULLEST range of motion. Just like Nigel is doing an excellent job of demonstrating here. On the concentric movement hes going from a fully hyperextended position, into a fully flexed position. And then for the eccentric movement (lengthening under load) hes going from the fully flexed position, into a fully hyperextended position again. Amazing! Thanks for the great example Nige - - - Feel. Be fully and deeply and genuinely present in your body here and now, and connect to your heart. Marry your awareness and your body together
18.01.2022 Yoga in schools has profound impact on behaviour. A project taking yoga classes into schools has helped children with social and emotional challenges. According to a head teacher at Reedham Primary in Norfolk, Yoga has been helping children with a range of special needs.... These needs include autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The yoga teachers concentrate on techniques that promote a sense of calm. The trial has said to have given the children the ability to manage behaviour and respond to stress, anxiety and depression. Head Chris Edwards said: "We have seen how the practice of yoga has a profound impact on certain children. They appear to be calmer and more at peace with themselves and their surroundings. "By being more in control of their feelings, their behaviour and attitudes towards learning and life in general have improved."

16.01.2022 Of all the African tribes still alive today, the Himba tribe is one of the few that counts the birth date of the children not from the day they are born nor conceived but the day the mother decides to have the child. When a Himba woman decides to have a child, she goes off and sits under a tree, by herself, and she listens until she can hear the song of the child who wants to come. And after shes heard the song of this child, she comes back to the man who will be the childs... father, and teaches him the song. When they make love to physically conceive the child, they sing the song of the child as a way of inviting the child. When she becomes pregnant, the mother teaches that childs song to the midwives and the old women of the village, so that when the child is born, the old women and the people gather around him/her and sing the childs song to welcome him/her. As the child grows up, the other villagers are taught the childs song. If the child falls, or gets hurt, someone picks him/her up and sings to him/her his/her song. Or maybe when the child does something wonderful, or goes through the rites of puberty, then as a way of honoring this person, the people of the village sing his or her song. In the Himba tribe there is one other occasion when the "child song" is sang to the Himba tribesperson. If a Himba tribesman or tribeswoman commits a crime or something that is against the Himba social norms, the villagers call him or her into the center of the village and the community forms a circle around him/her. Then they sing his/her birth song to him/her. The Himba views correction not as a punishment, but as love and remembrance of identity. For when you recognise your own song, you have no desire or need to do anything that would hurt another. In marriage, the songs are sung, together. And finally, when the Himba tribesman/tribeswoman is lying in his/her bed, ready to die, all the villagers that know his or her song come and sing - for the last time that persons song.

11.01.2022 Wild animals have toughness, strong personalities, not influenced by humans. . . When domestic animals have no other animals to bond with they take on the owners personality. This man is brilliant.... He doesnt take the food away from Chunk. He actually helps these animals, instead of trying to kill them. Chunks fascination with the camera is surreal. . . Timeless People should let go of their fear of wild animals, and realise that ALL domestic animals came from wild animals. To fear wild animals and not try to save them is the height of seperation from Nature. . . ALL wild animals are great relatives of your own pets. Love this. . . Congratulations
10.01.2022 Wow! X 2 Plenty of young people cant do this! Very impressed ... Big LIKE from me

10.01.2022 Golden Retriever Comes Home With A Baby Koala Whose Life She Just Saved Kerry McKinnon lives in Australia with her dog, Asha. One morning, she saw something that surprised her! ... Her husband yelled to come look at something. Their Golden Retriever was sitting outside with a baby koala perched atop her back. She kept looking back at the koala but she wasnt trying to get him off her or anything. She was happy to let him snuggle into her, Asha the Golden Retriever is being hailed a hero for her role in saving a baby koala. I think the baby koala fell out of his mums pouch and didnt know what to do He would have died out there if left alone all night. The poor thing could have been taken by a fox or something, too The tiny koala was checked out by a vet, and a local carer is watching over the baby until its old enough to be released back into the wild.

03.01.2022 Mum to the rescue
03.01.2022 Hahahaha! Ahhh, funny stuff. But there is actually a little bit of truth to what he is saying. There are plenty of historical mistakes in what hes saying too. Like for example, it doesnt matter whether there arent very many ancient Indian statues of people doing Hatha Yoga postures. Because there are heaps of ancient Indian texts that describe in detail the asanas and how to do them.... But actually when I teach the class in the Bodhi Yoga Teacher Training on the History of Yoga, I explain that Yoga is a broad word that encompasses sooo many things. And so much of what comes under that big broad word of Yoga has indeed come from many ancient non-Indian cultures and people - specifically the Aryan people (Europeans), and the Mongolian/Oriental people, and even from the Persian people. Over many thousands of year they have all influenced and contributed to what we broadly call Yoga. Saying that Yoga is Indian is just delusional and very shortsighted. And personally, I dont care that much about who claims they invented it. Because thats leads to all kinds of claims about whos Yoga is the real true Yoga. And if you dont follow their system then according to them youre just doing a fake Yoga. Thats just dogma. I dislike that kind of rubbish. People can practice whatever Yoga they like. AND do it with any kind of intentions that suit them too. Whatever style suits their needs and reasons for practicing. So long as theyre not hurting others then let them do as they like. Yoga is just a tool. And you can use it for whatever purpose you like - getting fit, picking up guys, achieving fancy postures, or whatever. There is no need to impose one particular meaning for doing it! Give people space and freedom to be themselves. But I personally have a clear intention about what my practice is for: HEALING. And I share my Yoga as an offering to those who want to practice with me from that space. I always allow them to choose. But I encourage and give my students the opportunity to experience the practice from a healing intention. And if they take it, then wonderful If not, then thats fine too If they dont want to practice with the intention of healing then Im sure they will get some other benefits from their practice instead. So either way Im happy that they come to class and enjoy moving and breathing. Remember this phrase: Its only Yoga guys.
