25.01.2022 When a printer refers to bleed, they are talking about the extra parts of your artwork that goes beyond the edge of the sheet before its trimmed off. With design software this is fairly easy to set up, however most people will only have Microsoft Word to do their artwork. This is not a recommended product to use, but as a printer we have to work with what we are given. To set up bleed in Word, what you will be required to do is to add 5mm on all sides of the page. To do thi...s, create your default document (hopefully by this stage being in Australia you have this set up to A4 rather than Letter). Next go to "Page Layout" and "Size". And now select "More Paper Sizes" or "Custom". The size of A4 is 21cm x 29.7 cm. Change these values to 22 cm and 31.7 cm - and youre done. By default, your margins should leave plenty of space to be working in the "Text" or "Safe" area - this is usually a 10mm margin inside an A4 sheet when trimmed. When laying out your artwork, make sure it now goes to the edge, remembering that 5mm will be cut off from all sides of the page, so dont run anything off there that you dont want cut off. If you intend to do a hairline border on your artwork, do not place it just off the trim mark (5mm from edges) as trimming is not precise and there is usually a 1 mm margin of error, which will be big enough to cut off one or two sides of your border. Do note that an A4 printer cannot print bleed - in fact it wont print right to the edge either, so bleed is only used when printing on oversized sheets then trimming, or sending your artwork to a professional printer. When supplying your artwork, you will need to save your work as a PDF - with embedded fonts. There are a few more issues in designing in Microsoft Word, but most good printers will be able to work with the PDF you have now created. 08.01.2022 Domain scams are becoming increasingly more common, and we get many queries regarding them from our clients. If you receive a Domain Name Registration notice, make sure that it is your domain you are paying for. And if you do wish to have the domain name they list, get it through your current Hosting or Domain company. It will be 10 times cheaper!! The attached image is a copy of one of a few notices sent to our clients. It looks fairy legit, however the price is far too expensive, and the very small print reads "This is an invitation...." which is the reason why they can still operate.
