13.01.2022 Here is a transcript of Sture's video message. Hello. I'm Sture Myrmell, President of Carnival Australia. Many of you will know that Carnival Australia is Au...stralia's largest cruise organisation. We represent seven distinctive cruise lines. You will also know there has been intense focus on cruise ships as Australia grapples with the impact of COVID-19 and fights to slow the spread of illness. It is distressing to see one of our ships, Ruby Princess, attract so much criticism in spite of some undeniable facts; Every single passenger on the affected cruise and every joining crew member, embarked the ship in Sydney. The overwhelming majority of passengers, in fact 2/3, who embarked that ship were Australians. The ship followed to the letter all of the formal health clearance processes that were active at that time meaning that all travellers arriving from an overseas port were treated in exactly the same way whether they arrived by air or sea. It is also very distressing to know that COVID-19 has impacted people who travelled with us and their families in such a devastating way and they are very much in our thoughts. However, it is difficult for people and businesses who derive their livelihood and jobs from cruising to see it demonised in the way it has been and for its contribution to be discounted and devalued. Suggestions that cruising makes no contribution to Australia's economic well-being are as hurtful as they are wrong. We are part of an industry that contributes more than $5 billion to the national economy and supports nearly 20,000 jobs and buys huge quantities of produce from local suppliers. And there are thousands of travel agents who have made cruising part of their businesses as well. There are also tens of millions of dollars in non-recoverable taxes to federal and state governments. And this is before fees and charges are taken into account. There are more than 300 people who work at our Sydney office and thousands of crew on our ships. These are loyal hardworking people. It has been bewildering for them to see governments, even the police, turn on their industry with little consideration of them or their future. They have seen the spectacle of our ships being ordered out of the Australian ports. These are ships that have called Australia home for years, in some cases for many years. Ships once integral to the visitor economy have suddenly been declared unwelcome. In recent weeks, as COVID-19 started to spread to our north, we began bringing our Australian-based ships back to Australia so that thousands of passengers could get safely back home. It was an orderly process that worked. There are still many Australians overseas and we are assisting the government in getting them back to Australia. We understand the pressures that governments are under to slow the spread of coronavirus. It's a massive task and it is true we are all in this together. In terms of our ships, we've only ever wanted an opportunity to take them out of service and relocate them in a similar orderly process. Let me be clear on this. The welfare of our crew is paramount. It simply wasn't safe for Ruby Princess to sail away from Australia and away from healthcare services that might become urgently needed. We are doing everything we can to repatriate crew back to their homes, other than those who are needed for the safe operation of our ships. It's the right thing to do and it is the compassionate thing to do. As a maritime nation we have obligations to look after people in our care in this country. There is a duty to care for foreign nationals in the same way as we would expect others to care for Australians in difficult circumstances overseas. We look forward to Australia defeating this virus. We look forward to the return of cruising. We look forward to our travel and tourism economy getting back to normal. After cruising from Australia for nearly 90 years no organisation is more passionate about Australia because we are part of this country too. Thank you.

10.01.2022 This is a beautiful story of one couple's love and devotion for each other and we are proud that P&O Cruises played a part in their lifelong romance. In their 7...0 years together, Kate and Alan 'Ned' Kelly sailed with P&O here and in the UK on more than one hundred cruises and loved them all. And our onboard teams loved Kate and Ned in return. When Kate sadly passed away recently in her 90th year leaving Ned grief stricken, the notice for the celebration of her life listed P&O as one of her homes. Photos on the wall of their unit tell the story of their cruise adventures together. "We enjoyed our cruises very much," Ned said. "We did 80 to 90 cruises with P&O in Australia and the others with P&O in the UK. "We did some of the trips in England early on and we have always been loyal to P&O because my father had worked on their ships in the UK. The P&O ships have been our second home and we enjoyed it so much. The crew often told us that we were part of the family." Ned is doing his best to get on with life but concedes he is not doing well without his darling Kate by his side. We sent Ned some flowers to honour Kate and to thank them both for their devotion to P&O. Ned asked if one day he might be able to cruise again. "You have to have a dream," he said. Thank you Kate and Ned.

Who is cruising to where and when : While the global COVID-19 pandemic has shut down most cruise lines since mid-Mar...ch, there are areas of the world where some ships are sailing. Which Cruise Ships Will Be Scrapped Or Taken Out of Service Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic? Which Cruise Ships Will Be Scrapped Or Taken Out of Service Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic? (Updated 12:36 p.m. EDT) -- Faced with declining revenues and a lack of passengers during the global COVID-10 pandemic, some cruise lines are taking an unpopular but necessary step: Selling off older vessels for scrap. Most modern cruise ships have service lives of 40 years or more. While it is not uncommon to see cruise ships built in the 1970's and 1980's go to the breakers, older vessels are usually transferred first to another, smaller cruise operator -- a market that is often referred to as "secondhand tonnage." It's more unusual is to see relatively young vessels head to the breakers. Yet that is precisely what is beginning to happen, due to the coronavirus pandemic. On June 25, Carnival Cancels All 2020 Cruises Except For Those from PortMiami, Port Canaveral Carnival Cancels All 2020 Cruises Except For Those from PortMiami, Port Canaveral (11:15 a.m. EDT) -- Carnival Cruise Line has announced it will cancel all remaining 2020 voyages, with the exception of sailings scheduled to depart from the Florida homeports of PortMiami and Port Canaveral. The news comes on the heels of the extension of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC)'s "No-Sail" order, which has now been pushed back through October 31. Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy was quick to say that today's announcement was not a guarantee that sailings would restart in November from Miami and Port Canaveral, but an indication that, in keeping with the line's plan for a phased return to cruise operations, that the first sa Story Credit Cruisecritic https://www.cruisecritic.com.au/news/5603/ See more
06.01.2022 It is with sadness felt to the depth of the oceans that we mourn the passing of actor Gavin MacLeod, our beloved global ambassador, dearest friend, and treasured member of the Princess Cruises family for more than 35 years. From his 10 seasons starring as Captain Merrill Stubing on the hit TV show The Love Boat, and for more than 3 decades after, Gavin enthusiastically shared his passion about the joys and adventures of exploring the world while cruising. He always reminded us that, like the popular TV series, cruising gives people something to dream about. All of us send our heartfelt condolences to his entire family, and offer our sincerest gratitude to them for sharing Gavin with all of us for so many years. https://bit.ly/3c4LsuN
