24.01.2022 Fake News - Beware! Its jamming up our Social Media Feeds and creating headaches for everyone. There are literally thousands of sites and different forms of fake news. Every day I see people sharing and re-posting stuff ranging from winning something, to some sort of news that sounds incredible and interesting. Recently I fell into this trap and was guilty of sharing an article from the "North Coast Chronicle" about a new them park coming to Coffs. Luckily my error in judg...ement was pointed out to me quite quickly. If you check out their website: (http://northcoastchronicle.info/) You will note there is a footnote at the bottom of the main page: "Although some of the articles on this website may be based on fact, the North Coast Chronicle is a completely fictional publication - and so is everything we post." Moral of the story is - Think twice about sharing or reposting what you see as interesting. If you do - you may just be playing into the hands of the creators of the afore mentioned Fake News. If it sounds too good to be true - it usually is.

22.01.2022 Last night I talked to the Woolgoolga View club at the Woolgoolga Bowling club about the ins and outs of using Gumtreee and Ebay. Kay and her members were very welcoming and Id like to thank them for their positive feedback!!

21.01.2022 Now for some comic relief. I especially like #8.

18.01.2022 Found this while I was looking for a tech post for today, its a good deal if you shop on Ebay regularly. As with most specials you have to spend money to save money. http://www.gizmodo.com.au//lunch-time-deals-get-a-100-vou/

16.01.2022 If you find you are getting redirected to strange websites or your computer is just running alot slower than normal - try these handy malware removal tools available from bleepingcomputer.com: AdwCleaner and JRT (Junkware Removal Tool). Also - reset settings in Chrome and Internet Explorer, and lastly make sure you have the latest version of Java installed - get it only from www.java.com.

15.01.2022 Are you getting full speed on your NBN connection? I double checked mine on speedtest.net recently. and found my download speed was a quarter of what it should be. Quick call to Optus resolved the problem. Now running at close to 100Mbps. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5645256096

13.01.2022 Interesting if you are into Windows 10

08.01.2022 I constantly get spam and and Phishing emails supposedly from the likes of Apple, iTunes, PayPal, etc. So thought it would be good to share this. Below is a screen shot of the offending email. This particular one is quite obvious but some are harder to pick. ... The main thing to think about is - you will rarely if ever get an email from one of these entities - unless you have recently adjusted your account. If you do get one and are unsure - do not open any attachments or click on any links in the offending email. Go directly to the website of the company to do any checking. In this instance a quick check on the PayPal website provides this informative page about Phishing: https://www.paypal.com//how-to-spot-fake,-spoof,-or-phishi

07.01.2022 Would be easy to be caught out by this sort of thing. Be wary! Have a fun and safe holiday period!

07.01.2022 Heres a useful hint for finding stuff on facebook. You can find a list of all things that youve liked in your activity log. > Click the down arrow at the top right of any facebook page > Choose "Activity Log" > From the left hand corner, click on "Likes"... First time you go in here you find a handy pop up balloon to show you some extra hints.

06.01.2022 This is not bogus - happened to my brother last week. If you are effected by this - change your Facebook password immediately. Log out of FB on all devices.

04.01.2022 We have a Sony Playstation 4 with a 500GB Hard Drive (HDD) Looks like it now needs more space after new games etc. being purchased. You DONT need to trade in your current one and go through the expense of buying a new one with a bigger HDD. It is actually quite a simple process to upgrade the HDD yourself!... The PS4 is just a specially customised computer. I can help with this sort of thing or if you are confident with it you can try upgrading the HDD yourself..... Here are a couple of links if you are thinking of doing it yourself: http://www.gamesradar.com/best-hard-drive-for-ps4/ https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/system-updates// http://www.techradar.com//how-to-upgrade-your-ps4-hard-dri With this sort of thing - always make sure you have a Backup of your system first.

03.01.2022 Ive seen a lot of people posting about accounts being hacked and/or cloned. This is most likely to happen if you use Facebook on a shared/public computer or device. Best ways to avoid this: 1. Change your password on a semi regular basis. 2. Log out of Facebook and Facebook Messenger on all devices. Especially after changing password.... http://www.makeuseof.com//log-facebook-devices-improve-se/ http://tech4more.com/logout-facebook-messenger-remotely/ 3. Check your Facebook security to ensure that personal information is only visible to people you want to see it. These are just a couple of things, but they will definitely help keep your account yours!

03.01.2022 Beware of the constant barrage of Phishing emails and Bogus Telstra Phone Support scams. Heres a screen shot of an email I just received, Note the Highlighted Yellow - Email address - does not match anything you may expect to come from NAB:

01.01.2022 Is your computer making a lot more noise than usual? I can give your computer a physical and software cleanup! Check out the fuzz on this Processor Heatsink I found recently. Its the computer equivalent to a car radiator and you should be able to see through the little fins. This one is choked up with dust. The computer was almost silent after I had cleaned it.

01.01.2022 Be proactive and get your family onto Family Zone before it is too late. Children today have access to the internet multiple devices almost 24/7. This can give them access to age inappropriate content from a very early age. If you take action early enough, you will not have such a battle to gain control.... Family Zone is a simple device that is attached to your existing internet connection. Add the associated Family Zone Services to all your devices and your worries are over. You can have a Family Zone Cyber Advocate to assist you in setup and maintenance of your familys online safety. Check out Cyber Mum and Family Zone Cyber Safety
