19.01.2022 We’ve talked about what you can add to your diet to help with immunity, but what can you reduce? One word. Sugar. Sugar suppresses your immune system, effectively putting your white blood cells into a little coma. White blood cells are the key players in your immune system. If your immune system is compromised, you are more likely to get sick. So cut down and cut out sugar where you can. Here’s a few simple tips: Gradually reduce sugar in your everyday drinks like tea.../coffee your tastebuds will adjust promise. Read labels and choose products without hidden sugar. Sugar is in a LOT of processed foods - even foods that aren’t sweet foods bread, crackers, dips, sauces, canned soup, salad dressings, protein bars, cereals and muesli bars marketed as healthy. Have you ever checked out the ingredients in the yoghurt you eat? Swap to greek yoghurt or if you are super hardcore try pot-set yoghurt. Add a little honey if needed. Swap sugary drinks for water (sparkling or still) with lemon/lime/fruit/cold tea infusions your tastebuds might not love it for a week or so but again they will adjust. Be very wary of artificial sweeteners like aspartame (that’s for another post) and high-fructose corn syrup. Often in foods marketed as sugar free or low fat.
