24.01.2022 There are some things that we once thought were cool but as times change or maybe we get a little wiser we realise they werent. Teased fringes, Milli Vanilli or burning a smiley face into your leg with a lighter-Tragic But there is one thing that has never ever been cool and thats irritated ears from wearing poor quality earrings. Which is why I only ever use Sterling Silver ear hooks so even those with sensitive ears can enjoy wearing my creations and look .....well ....timelessly cool. Its in here I take all my photos and work on the projects that are less messy and dont require too many tools. 14.01.2022 Large plain copper sheets is how my copper earrings begin. Some sheets up to 1 meter in length. Then its hand cut, filed, sanded, then stained and buffed. Always busy hands when everything is hand made from scratch. #myfriendmerle #handmadefromtheheart

13.01.2022 Stinky, stinky, stinky. The raw copper is dipped into boiling water and sulphur to give a darker colour to the copper. Then using a buffer and good old elbow grease its buffed back to bring out the imprint in the copper. #myfriendmerle

12.01.2022 Through the whole process of working with sterling silver the metal is very dull. When sterling silver is heated (annealed) it develops a dull grey coating over the surface called fire scale. As fire scale appears every time the metal is heated I personally wait until the very end to remove this layer with an abrasive polish. The polishing process has multiple stages but to see my handmade creations go from a dull grey to a mirror finish bling its tremendously satisfying. #myfriendmerle

12.01.2022 Burnt Orange Jasper and Copper earrings are best worn while sipping a Burnt Orange Sparkling Wine Cocktail. Or just any cocktail really. Happy Fridays Burnt Orange Sparkling Cocktail INGREDIENTS... 1 small orange 8 sugar cubes 750ml bottle sparkling wine, chilled 1 tablespoon Angostura bitters Orange rind, to serve Ice cubes, to serve METHOD Step 1 Put on Burnt Orange earrings. Cut orange in half lengthways. Cut into thin slices. Step 2 Heat a chargrill pan over medium-high heat. Cook orange for 2 to 3 minutes each side or until charred. Step 3 Divide sugar cubes and orange among serving glasses. Top with sparkling wine. Step 4 Drizzle with bitters. Serve with ice-cubes and garnish with orange rind. See more

02.01.2022 The salt used to patina the copper, forms a bright teal crust over the top and you dont find out how much colour the copper has taken on until after this crust is removed. Messy job, but when we have success its happy dancing all round. #myfriendmerle
