03.01.2022 #WeRememberThem In Flanders fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow... Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. John McCrae (18721918)

22.09.2021 Winter Wellness Wednesdays Cold temperatures force us indoors and into confined spaces which makes it easier to pick up germs and contract infections. Add on a pandemic and there is even more chance of getting sick during winter. Good news is, there are a few easy things we can do to limit our exposure to illnesses. Wash Your Hands - by now we should all know this one like it was breathing air but don't forget to dry your hands properly afterwards. Wet hands are much mo...re likely to retain germs. Air Your Room - When it is cold we tend to close up the doors and windows to keep the warmth inside. Germs and bacteria multiply in warm and damp areas and a closed room means there is no fresh air circulating. Air your rooms daily and allow sunshine and fresh air to enter. Clean Your Heater - Chances are last season you put away your heater or stopped using it and it has collected dust ever since. Cleaning it out every once-in-a-while is essential to avoid the spread of allergens that can cause chest infections and asthma. If you do get sick, limit your interaction with others to avoid spreading germs around. Sharing is not caring in this case.

04.09.2021 Winter Wellness Wednesdays It is important during the Winter months that we support our bodies by giving them the rest they require to reset and recover. But we do need to be careful not to fall into the habit of oversleeping. The extended darkness in Winter leads to changes in our circadian rhythms, which can throw our sleep routines off course, and leave us feeling sluggish, low on energy, and tiredeven after a long night spent in bed. Try not to settle down too ...early at night so you can keep your regular sleep times and routines. A modest amount of extra sleep is okay but you don't want to fall into a pattern of oversleeping. If you find this hard to do, try supplementing the lack of natural light in Winter by turning on your inside lights to remind your body that it is not time to rest yet or that you need to get moving first thing in the morning.
