24.01.2022 Four of our community health staff along with many other local agencies came together at Kalgoorlie Primary School recently to share in their NAIDOC 2020 celebrations. It was a great opportunity to participate in fun activities and to engage with the school community. Activities included a model of an ear and the video otoscope which allowed children, staff and parents to see inside the workings of the ear and how to care for your ears The best way to care for your ears is... to; Regular ear checks Don’t put things in your ears Avoid loud noises Regular hand and face washing Thanks to everyone who joined in it was special to reflect on the messages of NAIDOC with pride and to also provide some health messages too!

13.01.2022 The new Kalgoorlie Renal Hostel is in operation with new residents settling and having somewhere to call their Ngurra (Home). Being at the hostel helps the residents keep focussed on their health and wellbeing, keeping their culture strong while attending dialysis at the Kalgoorlie Health Campus. The four staff members, Trevor Donaldson - Manager, Alice Tucker and Lloyd Winmar All Purpose Orderlys and Cyrene Hansen Administration Officer all feel that it is a privilege a...nd honour to be involved in the new accommodation service being provided to both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people who are disadvantaged in the Goldfields. In its short time of operation, the staff have seen the change in their residents from when they first entered the hostel to today and knowing that they are helping their family and their people is extremely rewarding. To see their look of happiness, contentment and pride is one that has made an impact on all the staff that they won’t forget any time soon. From the resident’s perspective, Bradley Greenwood and Helene Campbell: This place is alright Palya (Good). At Boulder Camp in winter time, I was in and out of hospital because of the cold. It’s alright here don’t feel like going anywherewe got everything here. Been waiting long time for a house. Was told I could not get a home in Kalgoorlie for 3 years. I feel like I’m home. Can sit out in the sun. The staff all friendly mob. This service is long overdue for the Goldfields and hopefully will continue to grow and help improve the health and wellbeing of its people. 03.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what it’s like working as an intern for the WA Country Health Service (WACHS)? Hear from Dr Jessie McCallum, Resident Medical Officer at ...Kalgoorlie Health Campus about her experience in the Goldfields: I believe working rurally is a must for any doctor! There is more opportunity to increase your procedural skills and take on greater clinical responsibility when caring for patients. The hours are also very flexible to extra-curricular activities, or study if you are heading into exams. The teams are incredibly experienced and knowledgeable and willing to help if you need it. Most importantly, the hospital community is one of the biggest assets about working for WACHS. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. All the staff know each other and make the effort to get to know you too. If you’re a junior doctor and are ready to be part of a country team, visit bit.ly/3rCZo46 or email [email protected] to see if there’s a medical position that you could be right for.
