22.01.2022 I walked past this sign last week @alisonsbread - did you know this about honey! Real honey, that is unprocessed, and not treated by heat is SOLID and tastes completely different to the liquid varieties you may come across. Real honey is straight from the bees, and very nutrient dense and healing for the body when used correctly. Have you tried real honey? 22.01.2022 Ok so if you know me you will know I am passionate about all things wellness which includes movement! And my movement is Pilates. So this is how I feel this morning after class, and even better now that Ive discovered @wotnotnaturals face wipes! Even though Im obsessed with smoothie bowls but during the cooler months I swap them for warming brekkies such as eggs or a my paleo overnight oats! Its important to increase more warming foods over raw, which are not only easier to digest but will feel more nourishing for your soul when its 5 degrees outside!! Here are of my top 4 cooler month food swaps! 1. Add more bone broth and herbal teas into your day - ...will warm you up inside out and leave you feeling amazing! 2. Increase warming spices such as cinnamon, turmeric, cumin and sweet paprika 3. Include more grounding root vegetables! examples include carrots, radishes, parsnips, turnips, beetroots.. Loaded with antioxidants, vitamin C and minerals like potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, beta-carotene these veggies are super grounding for adrenal/hormonal health and an excellent source of dietary fiber! 4. Increase Vitamin D rich foods- we dont often talk about these! Examples include eggs, salmon, good quality mushrooms. And go out in the sunshine as much as possible! Vit D makes for strong bones! 17.01.2022 Warming Winter Brekky!! With Melbourne weather turning nearly arctic I couldnt think of a better opportunity to share with you my Baked Eggs recipe! This recipe serves 4! Gluten-free Nut-free Dairy-free Protein Packed Delicious ~ Ingredients ~... 1 medium onion, diced 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped 2 tsp paprika 1 tsp cumin 1/4 tsp chili powder 4 cups fresh baby spinach 2 Zucchinis, sliced 1 cup of Broccoli, roughly chopped 400g canned organic crushed tomatoes 8 large eggs salt and pepper, to taste 1 small bunch fresh coriander, chopped 1 small bunch fresh parsley, chopped ~ Method ~ Preheat the oven to 200 c and lightly grease an ovenproof dish with coconut oil Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic and spices and cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant and the onion is soft. Add the spinach, zucchini and broccoli leaves and cook for 1-2 minutes, until the leaves have just wilted. Remove from the heat. Place the crushed tomatoes into a medium bowl with onion and spinach mixture, some salt and pepper, to taste and stir to combine and pour into ovenproof dish. Using the back of a large spoon make small dents in the middle of the sauce, then crack in the eggs. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the eggs are cooked to your liking. Garnish with chopped coriander and parsley. My 7 year old playing for the local soccer club @southyarra_sc kicking this massive goal coming up from defense. 3 months ago he wouldnt kick a ball with us then got the soccer bug. Woo! Since then hes applied himself consistently, practicing most days of the week. Its a lesson for all of us- consistently applying yourself at whatever it is you want to achieve pays off in the end. 11.01.2022 This is nothing fancy but shows you how to maximize your time in the kitchen of an evening. The aim is by preparing two meals at once you have a Whole Foods meal with something everybody enjoys and have leftovers for lunch tomorrow! Have both meat and fish at room temp before cooking. (Can sub proteins of choice) Frypan 1: salmon, cooked in some coconut oil and simply add rock salt. Cook for a couple of minutes then turn stove off as it will continue to cook and you dont wan...t it too dry. Frypan 2: grass fed beef mince. Heat some coconut oil before adding mince. For the mince I used @melrosehealth worcestershire and their new essential essential reds for a slight sweetness and antioxidant muscle and some rock salt and dehydrated bone broth like @sanelk for bonus minerals and flavour. =YUM! Serve with a huge green salad (mine was organic leafy greens, pea shoots, feta) topped with salt, @melrosehealth balsamic vinegar and olive oil, @pimpmysalad superseeds and home made dairy free tzatziki made with @coyo_organic (I will post the recipe for this too). 03.01.2022 Are you joining me for Plastic Free July? I am determined to reduce my use of plastic! When I heard the stat of 136kg per person per year I was blown away not in a good way. Think Plastic bags, plastic bottles, takeaway coffee cups, and plastic straws! How many times have you been stranded at the supermarket or coffee shop without your reusable bags or keep cup?! My top tip is to BE ORGANISED!! Get yourself a keep cup, steel straws, use paper bags at the markets, I keep a couple of calico bags in my handbag as I shop a lot on the run ... and this avoids me spilling out groceries out of my arms kind of embarrassing!! 02.01.2022 Those of you that know me and my practice of functional medicine principles know that I believe inflammation in the body is the biggest cause of disease today. We can easily remove inflammatory food sources - these include gluten, sugar and can include dairy. A great alternative if this is you is plant based milk - but you have to be a label explorer ! Read the ingredients as there can be a lot of crap in there. I often promote clean brands - another one on the market now is... @almomilk - with only a few ingredients its worth trying and they make a great concentrate which is almonds that you can whip up your own milk with by just adding water and salt (I also add a medjol date to make it super luxe).
