20.01.2022 Noticing movement through breath Energy is always in motion. It never completely stands still. The nature of energy is to flow. Our pain and suffering arises when we try to stop or block this energy. We do this in one of two ways. We try to hold on to the energy we enjoy. We want our relationships to stay the same forever. We want our new car to always be new. We want our bodies to never age. When we’re met with the inevitable, we’re surprised and upset. ... We try to hold back energy we don’t like. We suppress painful emotions. We’re rude to those we don’t care for. We avoid even necessary situations or encounters that cause nervousness or fear. All of this returns to harm us. Even in meditation, trying to hold back energy causes us frustration. We believe in the common misconception that in meditation, we can stop our thoughts. We’ll finally feel free when we stop resisting the true nature of energy. We’ll feel free when we accept that energy is always in motion. One very good way to remember this, is by watching the continual movement of the breath. The breath is always with us, and always in flux. 11.01.2022 Distraction is readily available. Arguably, we are more susceptible to distraction now than in any other time in history. The problem with distraction is that it takes us away from the present moment, the only moment in which we’re capable of realizing contentment and joy. Why then, aren’t we satisfied with remaining present? Why do our moments of peace, in which there’s seemingly nothing to do, translate to boredom rather than joy? If we’re unaccustomed to mindfulness, it’...s easier to seek and chase the next distraction than it is to sit with the discomfort of boredom. Sitting with the discomfort of boredom, however, is exactly the work we need to do. Becoming Mindful of Boredom. As you go about your day, use mindfulness to recognize boredom. Notice for example when you fill space with unnecessary tasks, how often you mindlessly reach for your phone, or the times in which you fill silence by turning on the radio or television. Become interested in your boredom. Instead of reacting to boredom by occupying yourself with mindless tasks, use boredom as a trigger to engage mindfulness. Ask yourself, what is it that is making me uncomfortable at this moment? What is it that I really truly need? The answers might arise as a feeling in your body, rather than a thought. Challenge yourself to remain present with the discomfort of boredom. When we’re bored, we’ve turned off the switch on noticing. Turn the mindfulness switch back on by getting curious. Close your eyes and notice at least three things about the present moment. This could be as simple as checking in with your breath, your body, or the energy within your mind. # #mindfulness #presentmoment #presentmomentawareness #presentmomentliving #myhomieau #stressrelief #dailypractice #dailyinspiration

02.01.2022 Being still We’re addicted to movement. We get uncomfortable when our minds are asked to stand still, to do nothing, to wait, to listen, to rest. Mindfulness and meditation help us notice how much we habitually chase distraction, and help teach us to get more comfortable with stillness. ... The problem with distraction is that it takes us away from the present moment, the only place in which it’s possible to experience true happiness and contentment. When we’re always chasing things, happiness is always somewhere out there - away from where we are. When we’re present, quiet and still, we open ourselves to the possibility of recognising that where we are is pretty good. It’s in the stillness that we are able to see the true nature of our minds, and we’re able to recognise that true nature as one of contentment and joy. A Mindfulness Task Try the following as you go about your day... * Do only one thing at a time, avoid multitasking * Notice how often during your day you get the opportunity to do nothing * Can you take advantage of these moments and do less? * Notice when you fill space with mindless or busy-ing activity * Notice when you fill space in your mind by thinking * How often, outside of formal meditation, do you just sit and notice and listen? #movement #beingstill #happiness #beingpresent #beingpresentinthemoment #dailyhabits #dailyhabitsforsuccess #dailyhabitschallenge #meditationpractice #mindfulness #myhomieau
