22.01.2022 THE TERRIFIC TWOS Once a year, we close our humble kitchen so I can take my family on our holidays. A short mother-daughter trip to Europe meant that I would not be able to bake the cake for my beautiful niece Alaynas second birthday. Alaynas parents already ordered from another homebaker but, unfortunately, things did not go according to plan. My goddaughters first birthday was around the corner but her mum has not booked a cake for her celebration just yet. 10.01.2022 A WHIRLWIND WEDDING Some couples take years planning the most lavish wedding that could rival the Oscars, while others plan small intimate ones with selected loved ones. These clients of mine, however, belong in an entirely different category. After getting engaged just last month, the lovebirds decided to get married just one month after! While the celebration was meant to be extremely intimate, the couple still wanted their wedding cake to be exquisitely perfect.... 09.01.2022 A BLESSED FUSION Fresh from my European holiday with my second daughter, a client posed a challenge my way: create a cake for her sons christening that will be a beautiful fusion of his Serbian and Filipino heritage. A tall order, I must admit. Given my knowledge of how important celebrations like these are, I fought through jetlag to craft a two-flavoured original that represents the beautiful hybrid of two cultures, blending beautifully for their beautiful baby boy.... However, said goddaughter isn’t particularly fond of her godmother. (For the record, I am a very loving godparent!) For her third birthday, her parents planned to throw her a big birthday bash - the party of her dreams! Unfortunately, the pandemic and the government’s stricter rules on social gatherings ...and physical distancing forced our clients to cancel the party altogether, and opted to have a small intimate party with just their immediate family. So what did the celebrant’s godparent do? Why, of course, I took out all my kitchen arsenal and baked her the cake of her dreams. What more, we delivered the cake - much to our clients’ surprise! These clients, of course, wanted their sons to be splendid. And because it was splendid that they wanted, they knew where to order the best cake for their celebration....
