A great story-teller, an engaging writer, and, although an English migrant in 1911, someone who clearly understood our distinctly Australian culture . His novels are still in print...treat yourself to a good read!

In the '50s Upfield was the only foreigner to be admitted as a member of the Mystery Writers Guild of America, and in his day he was one of only a few Australian authors who could make a living soley from his writing. He wrote wonderful detective stories, with engaging characters, and his real l...ife connection with our Australian landscape and indigenous communities resulted in books that are realistic and have a distinctly Australian heart. Lovely to find Upfield featured in this tribute to Australia's Greatest Books, published in 1985, 21 years after Upfield had died. Now, more than 55 years after his death Upfield's novels are STILL popular and in print. We want to make sure today's generation of readers get introduced to his clever, quintessentially Australian detective stories of yesteryear! See more
