23.01.2022 I had the opportunity to repair some local history. This handmade, solid hardwood wardrobe was made for a local family in the 1900’s. They owned the local saw mill and the wardrobe came with the house, that was built for the same family.... Over time the timber had moved and the current owner dropped it, whilst moving into the house. It split the timber, on both vertical panels the full length, damaged the hinges and scratched the front, as slid across the concrete driveway. So I was honoured to be ask to repair the wardrobe, knowing it’s history. I carefully removed the doors, the broken sections and repaired them. Using the same traditional joinery , timber and French Polish finish to restore it. My clients request was to preserve the ‘original patina’. Hopefully this handmade wardrobe will be used for another 100 years. . . . #mylittleworkshop #handmadetoys #handmademelbourne #plasticfreeplay #plasticfree #zerowaste #plasticfreelife #yarravalley #melbournemakers #handmademovement

23.01.2022 I have just finished making this ‘ coffee bar’ for a local chocolate artisan. Made from salvage ‘ black butt flooring’ and designed to be spacious to have two small fridges and storage underneath and coffee machine on top. The design brief was to have simple clean lines , as they have commissioned art works to be displayed in the cafe.... For sometime I have felt the resurgence of micro businesses. The feeling of people who have skills and passions turning them into businesses. This feeling is really strong at the moment in our current times. People will possibly be supported or encourage to show the world their passions. This cabinet is for a couple who are doing that, making organic dark chocolate locally handmade in the Yarra Valley. https://instagram.com/tonantzin_chocolate Please support small businesses. . . . #mylittleworkshop #handmadetoys #handmademelbourne #plasticfreeplay #plasticfree #zerowaste #plasticfreelife #yarravalley #melbournemakers #handmademovement

21.01.2022 I still find it amazing how beautiful the colours and grains are from recycled timber. I do love all types of timber, but recycled timber feels and looks like it’s alive. It has a story , a history and you can see it in all the boards.... Making these pantry cabinets from recycled timber from an old farm shed frame, brings me a huge amount of satisfaction. . . . #mylittleworkshop #handmademelbourne #plasticfreeplay #plasticfree #zerowaste #plasticfreelife #yarravalley #melbournemakers #handmademovement #ethicaltoys

14.01.2022 I have just finished making these ‘ rocking motor bikes and horses’ for the ‘children’s garden kindercare’ in Albert park. Made from salvaged cypress log and recycled hardwood and finished in Tung oil. . .... . #mylittleworkshop #woodentoys #handmade #heirloomtoys #woodendeer #ecotoys #sustainabletoys #imaginativeplay #handmadetoys #ecokids #handmademelbourne #plasticfreeplay #plasticfree #zerowaste #plasticfreelife #yarravalley #melbournemakers #handmademovement #ethicaltoys #naturaltoys

14.01.2022 I have just finished making this shoe rack from Japanese cedar. Japanese cedar is found in many shrines across Japan. The trees grow straight towards the sky, so it’s considered to be the closest associated tree with Japanese gods. It is said that ‘Japanese gods use the tree to come to the earth and go back to their world by using the tree as transportation’.... Looking at the timber , you can see how or why this relates to the mythology. The timber naturally, has a beautiful blonde ‘ sap blaze’ either side of the heart wood. The heart wood does resemble a pathway or ladder, which ties in with the position of the knots. It’s not a common timber, so I’m deeply blessed to able to create with it , especially in wide board with natural edges. . . . . #mylittleworkshop #handmadetoys #handmademelbourne #plasticfreeplay #plasticfree #zerowaste #plasticfreelife #yarravalley #melbournemakers #handmademovement

12.01.2022 I have spent a couple of weekends creating a curved fence for a Steiner based childcare centre. The brief was ‘ not to be straight’ , so I curved the rails and cut the pickets in a wave shape. Made from salvaged cypress log from the Mornington peninsula , it was a challenging but creative project to be apart off.... . . . #mylittleworkshop #handmade #handmademelbourne #salvagedwood #steiner #steinereducation See more

07.01.2022 I was commissioned to create a bug catcher for a little human, that has a passion for collecting and observing nature. To be honest I found this little project challenging for a number of reasons. Firstly, finding material that was light in weight but strong in strength. Designing the size of the catcher for ease of small hands.... Another decision was finding a way of attaching the wire so the edges were hidden and safe from little fingers. Finally finding suitable material for the handle, that was easy to grip , natural and simple to fixed to the bug catcher. The process of making can occupy hours and hours of my day. What was so special about this creation, is hearing and seeing the joy the bug catcher brought to this little person. Ever since I first started making, my intention was to create pieces with my own hands that would bring joy to others. . . . #mylittleworkshop #woodentoys #handmade #heirloomtoys #woodendeer #ecotoys #sustainabletoys #imaginativeplay #handmadetoys #ecokids #handmademelbourne #plasticfreeplay #plasticfree #zerowaste #plasticfreelife #yarravalley #melbournemakers #handmademovement #ethicaltoys #naturaltoys

04.01.2022 I have just finished making these ‘ pilker cubes’. These are designed around the philosophy of Dr Emmi Pikler. Her approach is based on a kind and respectful relationship between an adult and infant, through tender care moments, a naturally paced motor development, free movement and uninterrupted play.... The cubes are to encourage the children to move, climb and explore. The can be re-arranged to create different spaces and shapes. Made from ‘ eco ply’ , recycled dowels and hardwood, finished in Tung oil and wax. . . . #mylittleworkshop #woodentoys #handmade #heirloomtoys #woodendeer #ecotoys #sustainabletoys #imaginativeplay #handmadetoys #ecokids #handmademelbourne #plasticfreeplay #plasticfree #zerowaste #plasticfreelife #yarravalley #melbournemakers #handmademovement #ethicaltoys #naturaltoys#piklertoys #pikler#childensgardenkindercare @ Albert Park, Victoria
