24.01.2022 When can I return to exercise after having a baby? Like all pregnancy advice, it really depends on the individual. Factors that affect your return to exercise can include - Birth mode (C section vs vaginal)... - Birth Intervention (episiotomy, forceps etc) - Mental health - Baby's health (for example, if they are in NICU) - Support systems around you It's important to chat about a return to exercise plan with a women's health physio or EP because it's not as simple as getting the 'all clear' at 6 weeks. If you would like to know more about our Bump To Baby program please get in touch with Emily on [email protected]

07.01.2022 Is it risky to exercise with intensity during pregnancy?! What does the research say? (For a healthy, non complicated pregnancy) Higher intensity exercise during pregnancy results in-... Reduced risk of prematurity No difference in birth weight No increased risk of adverse events In fact, some studies suggest that this type of exercise can help grow a healthy, vascular placenta. If you are unsure about exercise advice during pregnancy, please contact Emily for more information [email protected]

07.01.2022 Should I stop abdominal exercises during pregnancy?! No, but you might need to modify things! It's important to try and keep your abs strong because They will help support your back... They work alongside your pelvic floor Unless you have scheduled a C-section, you will need them to help you push! Modifying your abdominal exercises, why? Many abdominal exercises involve laying on your back, which is not advised from about half way through your pregnancy Exercises such as sit-ups can increase pressure in the abdomen, causing us to bear down in the pelvic floor, or herniate through our mid-section ("doming"), long term this can affect continence and back pain. If you would like to know what abdominal exercises are suitable for your body, please get in touch with Emily on [email protected]

04.01.2022 Can I keep running during pregnancy? Sure, but if you didn't run before pregnancy, now is not the time to start. There's just a couple points to consider... Always listen to your body- there will likely come a time when running is no longer comfortable for you. Consider your pelvic floor - if you are leaking or have a feeling of heaviness, then running is probably going to make this issue worse. Risk of falls - the last thing you want is to trip and fall while pregnant, and considering many women become more clumsy, it's important to think about where you might be running/the surface you are running on. Be guided by your breath - you might find yourself huffing and puffing a little more than usual. Now is not the time to push for PB's. Enjoy a jog, take breaks to catch your breath. Wear supportive garments - consider adequate support for your extra bumps, that means a supportive bra or maybe some supportive pregnancy shorts too. Dont overheat or dehydrate - consider the weather before you step outside. If you would like to know more about our Bump To Baby program please get in touch with Emily on [email protected]
