25.01.2022 Mid week creations. Can anyone guess what we’re making? Hint: you might not want to eat it!

25.01.2022 Bone Broth! Who has tried it before? Due to its natural richness in minerals and amino acids, bone broth is excellent for good health, especially for pregnant or breastfeeding women, after surgery, athletes, osteoporosis sufferers and those who have irritable bowels or are immune deficient. It can also be used as a delicious stock for winter soups or risotto.... You can purchase it from health food stores, or even better you can also make it at home! Here is the recipe below. INGREDIENTS 2 kilos of grass-fed beef bones (avoid grain fed due to GMO potential) 3 Litres of water 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar A slow cooker METHOD Place the raw bones in the water with the vinegar in the slow cooker at low temperature and leave it to simmer for 36 hours. If you start in the morning, it will be ready the following evening. The bones should be crumbly in the end because all the minerals and proteins would have leached out in the water Extract the liquid and freeze portions or placed in the fridge it will last about a week. It will be gelatinous when cold, this is because it is loaded with proteins and minerals. Add to the broth some chopped vegetables and boil for 7-8 minutes to obtain a wonderful soup, especially for those that are fussy eaters in the evening. Add some fragrant herbs (parsley, basil, ginger, chilli and coriander) for an extra zing!

25.01.2022 Avo Raw Rocher Mousse This is by far the best avocado chocolate mousse you will get. Hybrid between a chocolate mousse, a chocolate truffle, and a melt-in-the-mouth chocolate Rocher. Another good point, it is healthy, can you believe it? How can it taste so good and be healthy? ... Check the ingredients, nothing processed, no dairy, no egg, no gluten no cooking. Yes some nuts, but it means more good fats, more fibre, more minerals and more B vitamins (the energy vitamins). It takes about 5 minutes to do, so if you are short of ideas for your Easter lunch, dont think twice and give it a go. Rest assured you will not be disappointed by the results. Ingredients for 4 egg cups or two cup size glasses: -1.5 medium avocado (here Shepard variety was used) peeled and seeded (just in case someone had a doubt) -4 Tablespoons raw cacao powder -4 tablespoons coconut sugar, or for a lower carbohydrate option: 2-3 tablespoons of Natvia or erythritol (a sugar alcohol extracted from fruits or corn that does not pass the gut lining). -2 heaped tablespoons of hazelnut butter, or crunchy peanut butter for a Rocher feel, or other nut/seed butter. -Vanilla extract (1 tsp) Place all the ingredients in a high speed blender and whizz for two minutes. Et voil! Spoon into egg cups and savour with small spoons. Yes it is rich so you want to eat it slow. Yum. No more to say.

25.01.2022 Wishing you a happy new year. The clinic reopens on the 4th January for massage, and on the 11th January for all other services. See you soon!

24.01.2022 I hope you all stay safe during this stressful time. I thought I would share this article that explains how melatonin and regular intake of vitamin C can help reduce the severity of infections. Would that imply a good night sleep is protective? Melatonin is the sleep hormone produced in the evening that gradually increases through the night. It is a protective and repairing hormone, hence the need for a good quality sleep in order to repair oxidative stress caused by daily activities. People under stress and with circadian rhythm (day and night switch) disruption are less able to produce sufficient melatonin. Managing your stress will support your immunity as well as eating a diet rich in vegetables and fruits. https://www.evolutamente.it/covid-19-pneumonia-inflammasom/

23.01.2022 What keeps you running? Running is an excellent exercise to maintain cardiovascular health, well indicated if you suffer from osteoporosis, want to build leg strength and endurance, and if you like exercising outdoors. You can always practice interval running in the beginning, and increase gradually to more running, and less walking time. There are some great groups such as Mackay Road Runners and On The Run to entice you and support your progress, whatever level you are at.... https://mackayroadrunners.com.au/ https://www.ontherunmackay.com.au/ However, if you have serious knee, hip or ankle issues, then running is probably not for you, but wait! You can still run...in the water, and reap the benefits of moving without weight bearing. It is definitely the way to train your heart, strengthen your legs and core without the impact on the joints. Specials are available till the end of January to encourage everyone to train regularly in any of the three public pools, and take advantage of Water Pilates Classes, as well as Deep Water running. Here is a summary of the reasons why Aqua workouts are beneficial: Challenge your stability and core strength with slow and controlled exercises. Aqua Pilates focuses on moves that are powered by the bodys core. Look after your joints and muscles with resistance, buoyancy and the gentle movement of water. Increase your flexibility, balance and strength. Aqua Pilates is appropriate for: Any ability Strengthening weak muscles, before or after surgery Pregnant Women Anyone suffering from joint stress, limited mobility or muscle fatigue. People who have osteoporosis or other fracture risks can safely do Pilates in the pool as the water acts as a cushion for the body. Deep Water Running assists with injury prevention as there are decreased compressive forces on the spine with reduced musculoskeletal loading. The natural buoyancy of the water reduces the strain on joints, bones and muscles by as much as 90 percent.

20.01.2022 Ticks can inflict serious diseases which can affect the joints, immunity and the nervous system, sometimes years after biting the host. It is essential to remove them properly to avoid injecting toxins and bacteria into the bloodstream. Preventative measures are necessary in order to stop infections from invading the host immune system. These include proper removal of the tick with appropriate tools and immune support with herbal antimicrobials. Now, if you have been bitten ...by ticks and have nothing at home but some herbs and spices, you can make a tea with equal parts of Italian herbs containing thyme and oregano, ground cinnamon and cloves. 1 teaspoon infused in a cup of hot water three to four times a day for at least a week. You have to talk to a herbalist or a naturopath for further information or for childrens dosages. You may find here all the information about Lyme (and co-infections) in Australia, as well as the tools for tick removal http://www.lymedisease.org.au/tick-removal-tool/ See more

12.01.2022 Which Iron supplement? If you suffer from iron deficiency anaemia, which means your blood test results show low serum iron, low ferritin, low haemoglobin levels, and you have been experiencing fatigue and mood issues, then an iron supplement might lift you up. Iron is an essential element or mineral, which is used to modulate neurotransmitters (hormones needed by the nervous system in order to ensure well-being, such as serotonin and dopamine), and participates in haemoglobi...n production, the pigment in the red blood cells that carries oxygen and delivers it to the tissues. Iron is present naturally in foods under two forms: -Haem iron, present in animal proteins. -Non-haem iron found in some leafy greens such as spinach, and lentils. This form is not as well absorbed as the Haem iron from animal proteins. Minerals and vitamins dont come up in supplements in the same form. Some forms are better absorbed than others, since they have to travel through the gastrointestinal tract before getting into the bloodstream. Iron is no different. Like any other minerals, it uses different transporters in the small intestine, from which it has to be carried through to reach the blood. Various forms of iron are: Iron sulphate (ferrous sulphate) Ferrous iron in free form Iron bisglycinate Why choose iron bisglycinate? In two clinical studies, it has shown 3 to 4 times better absorption than ferrous sulphate. Iron bisglycinate is composed of a molecule of iron and two molecules of glycine* It is transported to the small intestine unchanged, as opposed to ferrous iron which can bind to tannins, phytates and oxalates and form insoluble compounds. The binding of iron to glycine prevents its irritating effect on the gut lining. It is released as free iron only after passing through the intestinal wall, as opposed to free iron (in iron sulphate). By choosing iron bisglycinate you dont only prevent side effects from iron supplementation but you increase its absorption or bioavailability. Patricia Gros-Dubois My Natural Health Clinic *Glycine is an amino acid (a protein unit) that is beneficial for the joints and liver detoxification.

02.01.2022 Plastic Containers and IBD A recent study has shown that the BPA (Bisphenol-A) found in plastic containers could be aggravating Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD). This is in addition to other studies showing that chemicals in plastic containers can lead to hormonal imbalance, resulting in obesity, endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome.... What can you do about it? Use glass storage containers instead. Another benefit of glass containers is that they dont stain or retain food smells, lasting longer than the plastic counterparts.
