24.01.2022 TRIGGER POINT explained You might of heard of #triggerpointtherapy or have been told you have a trigger point in one of your muscles when getting a remedial massage - but what exactly is a trigger point and how does it affect pain, mobility and strength. Trigger points are most commonly found in taut band of muscle and are painful hypersensitive areas often associates with a pain pattern. Trigger point pain when active can be dull and achy or sharp and stingy, refer... locally or distal. Trigger points develop in the myofascia usually in the center of a muscle belly. They are caused by repetitive or permanent contraction of the muscle due to repetitive movement or postural habits. Think of it as a rubber band with a knot in it. The knot in the rubber band will restrict it from being lengthened to its full potential. It will cause pain and weakness within the affected muscle. In order to get the affected muscle to function as intended, we need to release this trigger point. Examples of Trigger Point related pain and restrictions: Lower back pain may be caused by an active trigger point in your Soleus (Calf muscle) Headaches may be caused by active trigger points in your Trapezius Limited shoulder mobility and pain can be related to trigger points in your Rotator Cuff muscles (Subscapularis, Infraspinatus, Supraspinatus, Teres Minor) Trigger points caused by postural imbalances can affect your everyday life with unwanted pain and restrictions in movement. To avoid trigger point related pain due to postural issues it is important to have a strength and mobility program in place and have regular soft tissue treatments such as #remedialmassage -/ #sportsmassage. Trigger points caused by repetitive movement due to exercise can affect your athletic performance by reducing your strength and mobility. If your goal is to gain strength or build muscle reduced mobility and muscle function due to tight muscles and trigger points have a negative impact on reaching these goals - the muscle fibers don’t have space to grow due to the functional restrictions. 20.01.2022 !!My top benefits of Remedial Massage for people who exercise!! Recover quicker - A massage after exercise doesn't just feel good. Exercise causes tiny tears in muscle fibers, leading to an immune reaction inflammation as the body gets to work repairing the injured cells. Massage reduces the production of compounds called cytokines, which play a critical role in inflammation. Massage also stimulates mitochondria, the tiny powerhouses inside cells that convert glucose int...o the energy essential for cell function and repair. Maintain condition - a regular massage (maintenance massage) helps the body recover from daily life, exercise or muscular postural imbalances. Focus is on specific problem areas such as tight muscles stiff joints, areas of pain and former injury sites. Prevent injury - Remedial Massage reduces the risk of injury by breaking down the bundles of collagen fibres causing adhesions and restricting the range of motion of a joint. A muscle that doesn't function in it's full range short bursts of movement during exercise are more likely to cause damage to the muscle fibres. Improve performance - Massage stretches the muscle fibres improving muscle flexibility and increases the range of motion through the joint. Massage breaks down adhesions (knots). If adhesions build up the muscle can becomes less flexible and can not do its job properly. When the body functions the way it is designed to anyone that exercises regularly can experience an increase in athletic performance.
19.01.2022 Maintenance massage is to your body what a service is to your car. If you don’t service your car it will not run properly and you will eventually break down or have an accident. It is pretty common knowledge that if you want your car to keep running properly you have to look after it and service it on a regular basis. This includes checking the oil and water, changing the tyres, cleaning the air filter and the list goes on. Once in a while some people forget to do some o...f these things and their car breaks down. Maybe you get a flat tyre perhaps it over heats or even worse the engine seizes! We understand the relationship between poor vehicle maintenance and the related problems that can evolve. Our bodies are the most valuable thing that we own, it is our vehicle for the duration of our life. It is more valuable than any materialistic thing that we own including our car, house, smart phone or piece of jewellery, yet somehow, we treat it like that old piece of clothing we have been meaning to take to the op shop for ages. So why are we neglecting our bodies maintenance? Maybe it’s lack of time or money? You might not be able to afford a Ferrari or that nice 4WD you dream off, but there is nothing wrong with driving a 20 year old Toyota Corolla, because if you have given it the regular maintenance it needs it will be more reliable than many newer cars! You may not be able to afford private health care but you certainly cannot afford to let your body decline to a point of no return, especially when a little prevention could easily have been enough to get you through life’s long journey. You can buy new tyres, replace the belts in your cars engine, buy new bulbs when a break light is out and so on but you can’t buy spare parts for your body once its broken.

04.01.2022 What is cupping therapy and how does it work? Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine. It goes as far back as 1550 B.C when the Egyptians’ used it as a tool for reducing inflammation and pain in the body. During cupping therapy, the therapist puts special cups on your skin to create a suction. The suction of the cup will make your skin rise and redden as the blood vessels expand. This suction stimulates blood flow to the affected area and can help wi...th reducing pain reducing inflammation increasing range of motion recovery from sports The cups generally stay on for 3-5 minutes. Cupping therapy is combined into your remedial massage treatment and usually applied at the end of your treatment. (Please be aware the cups leave marks (not bruises) that can stay noticeable for 1-2 weeks) #cuppingtherapy #cuppingmassage #cuppingmassagetherapy #perthmassage #perthwellness #perthremedialmassage #recovery #athleticperformance #innaloo #scarboroughbeach #fitness #loveyourbody #injuryprevention #perthfitfam
03.01.2022 The Muscle of the Soul - The Psoas and Emotions Emotions have developed over millions of years of evolution. They are the human response to nature, and in some ways protect us from harm. When we are fearful, we protect ourselves from either physical or psychological risk. These feelings are harboured in the brain and linked to survival. They are part of the brains connection to the nervous system, which links to the psoas. It is understood that people can hold embedded m...emories of traumatic events in the body as well as the brain. How does this relate to the psoas muscle? The deep location and connection of the psoas affects the central and peripheral nervous system. Having a fundamental role in behavioural patterns, the memory of traumatic stress can be held in the psoas major as an organ of perception. It’s involvement can cause tightness, unresponsiveness and pain. It’s release can begin a healing process.
03.01.2022 GUA SHA for pain relief - what is it and how does it work? Gua Sha (also known as the Graston technique) is an ancient Chinese medicine treatment used on areas of the body where blood flow has become stagnant and energy is believed to be trapped in the tissue. It’s also a great technique to break down scar tissue in the fascia due to chronic bad posture or injury. By applying the gentle strokes of gua sha to the skin covering the troubled area, the aim is to improve ...circulation, promote healing and increase range of motion. Gua Sha is used as part of a massage therapy treatment usually at the end of the session or after treating a specific body part. Oil is applied before using a tool such as @fasciq_official IASTM tool to apply gentle strokes down the skin. FASCIQ IASTM Tools (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation tools- also known as Gua Sha tools) are made of high-quality surgical stainless steel and are used by a professional therapist for loosening fascial structures. After a #guashatreatment it is recommended do take it easy for the rest of the day and not drink any alcohol. This recommendation is based on the ancient believes that #guasha gets the energy flowing again and too much too soon can reduce its benefits. ONLINE BOOKINGS AVAILABLE link in bio! See more
