We have soooo much more in store for our next journey, and the team is stepping it up to places I never saw my business going. 18.01.2022 Did You Know MyoSports Does Dry Needling? Difference Between Dry Needling and Acupuncture There is often a lot of questions and confusion about the differences between dry needling and acupuncture. Dry needling is an evidence-based technique applied by physical therapists that releases myofascial trigger points and muscular tightness. Dry needling is similar regarding the needle is inserted into the skin to alleviate pain. However, acupuncture treats for the purpose of alter...ing the flow of Qi (Energy) along traditional Chinese meridians. Physical therapists use dry needling with the purposes of addressing neuromuscular conditions, the relief of pain/ muscular tightness, and improving range of motion. What is a myofascial trigger point? A myofascial trigger point also known as a knot within the muscle is a bundle of muscle fibres that have shortened when activated but have not been able to lengthen back to a relaxed state after use. (Simons, Travell & Simons, 1999). What causes these myofascial trigger points? Injury (muscles will tighten attempting to reduce severity of injuries) Unexpected movements of the body Quick movements Change in regular exercise routine (an increase or decrease in regular physical activity) Sustained postures (extended sitting for study or work) Impingement of nerves (muscles will tighten attempting to protect the nerve) Stress Nutritional deficiencies (such as magnesium) (Simons, et al., 1999) How does Dry needling work? Single use sterile filament needles (acupuncture needles) are inserted into the trigger point that causes a neurological response within the muscle fibres. This reaction allows the muscle to release and relax which helps reduce pain and encouraging and improving the recovery process. Dry needling can help treat: Headaches in relation to muscular tension Tendinopathy including hamstring tendinopathy, Achilles, or tennis elbow Sciatica and gluteal pain General muscular tightness/tension Lower back pain Neck pain Post-surgery Sporting injuries

13.01.2022 If it doesnt rain it pours... MEET OUR NEWEST MYOTHERAPIST ISLA!! This little gem fell in our laps during the COVID period and it was a silver lining to our somewhat dark cloud at the time.. Isla will not only be getting busy with Myo Consults in a couple of weeks time. You will also get to experience her bubbly personalty at the reception desk every Thursday! But enough from us, well let Isla introduce herself ... "I grew up in Mildura and after finishing high school I went on to study Bachelor of Health Science-Myotherapy at Endeavour College of Natural Health in Adelaide. I have recently graduated and now find myself moving back home to Mildura. I have always had a strong interest in the biomechanics of the body, and this is why I went on to pursue a career I love in helping people with muscular or nervous system dysfunctions. With my experience in student clinic I have developed a strong interest in sporting injuries, acute neck pathologies, repetitive strain injuries (carpal tunnel/ tennis elbow) and muscular tightness causing nerve compression(sciatica). My consults include a wide variation of techniques depending on the individual needs of the client. In my spare time I enjoy walks along the river of course, followed by a coffee from the lovely local cafes. I attempt to keep fit in my spare time with the gym, yoga and Pilates. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and enjoying a cheeky wine on weekends. My outgoing personality will put you at ease and I have an individualised treatment approach that involves making a plan and encouraging you back to correct postures / movement patterns, injury prevention and performance enhancement."

11.01.2022 If you are from the Sunraysia region and are waiting for specialists care or surgery in SA then please watch this. This a topic I am extremely passionate about, as I see the physical and mental decline of patients every day that are waiting for surgeries that arent coming. With an increase in chronic pain and inadequate pain management options, it is only a matter of time that it results in an increase of mental health conditions or worse. If the Doctors are offering to c...ome to us, I dont see why the SA government cant compromise for this sector. Instead they would rather us travel into a high risk COVID area and potentially increase the spread to our low risk community. It doesnt make sense! If you want to share your story send it to Ali Cupper or if you are a patient of ours and you would like us to write one one your behalf, I will gladly write on your behalf. Just email me at [email protected]

08.01.2022 Lets talk headaches! We all know headaches can be extremely debilitating and there can be many contributing factors for onset of headaches, one major reason being tight, overactive muscles. It is important to identify and target the source of the pain which can often be linked back to poor posture including forward head carriage and weak stabilizers. ... Myotherapy utilises manual therapy techniques such as cupping, dry needling and stretching, aiming to desensitise, lengthen and strengthen the responsible muscles, joint or nerve tissues that can cause your headache. The picture below shows some of the common referral patterns for muscles located around the neck and shoulder regions that may be causing your headache pain.
