22.01.2022 We have been posting weekly gratitude posts as an outcome of the Calm Health Minds 8 week course facilitated by Engage Health that members of our community participated in recently. We have found this practice particularly beneficial at MA HQ, especially at the moment. Here is a bit more about it: Research tells us that in only 21 days of a daily gratitude practice we can build more positive emotion in the brain. When we view our past through a lens of gratitude it re-cod...es our memory and ensures we have hope and positivity for future experiences. The good things are always happening around us. We seem to be drawn only to noticing the unpleasant things because we feel them in our bodies. To begin - Jot down three things each night that went well during your day or bring to mind three things that you are grateful for. Keep it simple. Do this for at least 21 days and you'll notice a difference. Join us. Let us know what you are grateful for right now in the comments.

22.01.2022 Growing a mo is not for everyone, but shining a light on men's health is very important, which the crew do so well at promoting Movember Australia. We encourage all our members, who are often the carers, to check in with their own health and to prioritize it, this and every other month of the year. Here is an important blog piece which was written by one of our members Mat Richardson from Tecoma Myotherapy which details his health journey.... We thank him for his honesty and celebrate his story.

20.01.2022 MA are receiving a high volume of enquiries from members, non-member myotherapists and patients as to whether a GP or Specialist referral would suffice in order for them to access care from their trusted myotherapist for those in Stage 4 lockdown? The simply answer is NO. MA took this query to the DHHS at last week's round table discussion, and again the response was, 'face to face services which would prevent a significant deterioration in functional independence resulting ...in an escalation of care needs (such as increased frequency in treatment, significant increase in pain, specialist input, or substantial increase in recovery time as a result of delayed care) can only be provided for those people who are on an endorsed care plan.' Frustrated? So are we. So how can you help? http://ow.ly/9RgS50Bw8wJ

14.01.2022 Hello Summer! It feel's like ages..... We've been looking forward to the lightness you bring, the length in your days and the festive celebrations to come.

14.01.2022 Did you see this opinion piece in the ABC News yesterday outlining the differences in physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths and myotherapists? With many misconceptions around what we do, and treat, do you think it is accurate? https://www.abc.net.au//physiotherapist-chiroprac/12911958

14.01.2022 METRO MELBOURNE MEMBERS: What are we to expect of tomorrow's announcements? We too have asked this question directly to the CAHO at the DHHS. We appreciate that they can only provide as much as they have been given. ... So what we are led to believe at this stage: A number of options are being considered by Government as they work towards ensuring a safe road out of Stage 4. A proposed traffic light structure is being suggested, whereby Red = closed, Amber = restricted, Green = open (while following all COVIDSafe protocol). MA continue to advocate for myotherapists to be permitted to return to face to face practice (Green) as essential health service providers, as determined by Government during Stage 3, from September 14. Our advocacy position is that myotherapists and their patients should be empowered to together work out the best treatment plan in the current environment. Patient care has been deferred for 6-weeks. Continuing to defer care any longer risks a serious deterioration in the health and mental health of many, and could increase the burden on primary health care physicians and even hospitals. We will keep you informed and ensure to continue our strong advocacy for you and your patients. #inittogether #staystrong #hereforyou #myotherapyisessential #callingforagreenlight

13.01.2022 So, we're being told by the Victorian Government and CHO that in-person care by your trusted, qualified and safe myotherapist can only be accessed if you are on an endorsed care plan? What constitutes an endorsed care plan you ask? We've confirmed with DHHS that for the purposes of the guidance a standalone GP referral does not constitute an endorsed care plan.... Endorsed care plans are listed as - - Chronic disease management plans - noting that a GP is required to prepare same (refer to: http://ow.ly/yflD50ByzYS) - Endorsed NDIS plans (including self-managed plans) - Endorsed TAC plans - Endorsed Workcover plans - Endorsed DVA plans So essentially, what we are hearing, despite our calls for equal access to health service providers and the hundreds of emails from members and their patients in need of care, Government continue to apply these restrictive barriers. Does that seem fair and responsible? Help us advocate for change. http://ow.ly/mUQ950ByzYR

11.01.2022 Today, we were informed that the Victorian government is continuing to restrict access to face-to-face myotherapy services. We are disappointed by this short-sighted announcement. 09.01.2022 Are you a myotherapist using telepractice or remote consultation with patients during Covid? We need your help? MA are working closely with private health funds to demonstrate how telepractice can successfully be applied to myotherapy services. ... We are calling for a review of the decision earlier this year following our submission to PHA, whereby funds determined they were unable to support rebates for myotherapy services provided remotely. As tighter restrictions are imposed in some States, patients are unable to access in-person care with their trusted myotherapist. In addition to this, many vulnerable and at-risk patients are choosing to self-isolate at home during this time. Myotherapists can help with remote treatment, monitoring and guidance for self-management to help keep these patients out of the acute medical system. Data is key: tell us about you and your patients experience with telepractice. 02.01.2022 Calling for fair and clear access to essential healthcare for all Victorians during stage four lockdowns By continuing to limit access to myotherapy, we are concerned that the Victorian governments approach is resulting in:... deteriorating mental and physical health outcomes that will take longer to stabilise (if they can be rectified), unnecessary financial stress for patients and small businesses owners, a significant impact on reliance on pain medications, and mental health deterioration. And therefore, we urge the Victorian government to please re-adopt its own Stage 3 definition of permitted essential healthcare workers.
